Bolt Paper ❘ 雷光ヤスリ

Consumable

In-Game Description

Coarse paper that applies bolt to weapons when rubbed.

Invented by Archibald, the infamous eccentric of the Healing
Church workshop. Artificially recreates the blue sparks that
    are said to surround darkbeasts.

Unlike the other strange weapons created by Archibald, this
one was favored by many hunters, in particular those who
had even once laid eyes on a darkbeast.
Note 1: The same in-game description in US & UK versions. ✓
Note 2: Original Japanese text on Original Japanese Item Index page. ✓

Effects

  • Bolt Paper acts exactly the same as Fire Paper, with the only difference being that you'll get an increase of 80 bolt damage rather than fire. Weapons that are capable of doing a lot of hits in a short period of time will once again see the best increase in overall damage; because the additional damage will be applied to more hits.
  • You cannot use Bolt Paper with the following weapons: Burial Blade, Blade of Mercy, Chikage, Rifle Spear, Tonitrus, Logarius' Wheel, Holy Moonlight Sword, Boom Hammer, Amygdalan Arm, Kos Parasite, Simon's Bowblade, Bloodletter. Weapons with elemental gems also cannot be used.
  • Use Bolt Paper on your weapon when you fight a tough enemy with low bolt defense. Bolt Paper's effect lasts for one minute, and you can hold 10 at once. If you want to cancel the effect early for any reason, just quick swap to your other weapon and back. This cancels the effect, and is most useful when you want to rebuff your weapon; this gives you more control over when the effect fades.

  • Spark Hunter Badge: You'll receive this badge after defeating Darkbeast Paarl in the Unseen Village of Yahar'gul. Paarl is a tough foe if you fight him early in the game. If you are just after Tonitrus, you can pick one up from a corpse at the opposite end of Yahar'gul; there's no need to fight Paarl for it. The Spark Hunter Badge does give you access to Bolt Paper, though, which is quite useful, and you'll need to encounter Paarl to collect the Powder Keg Hunter Badge by befriending Djura in Old Yharnam, as well.

Notes

  • Available for purchase after obtaining Spark Hunter Badge.
  • Other buffs for your right-hand weapons are Fire Paper [+80 Fire DMG] & Empty Phantasm Shell [+80 Arcane DMG].
  • More effective with fast hitting weapons [+80 Bolt DMG every hit].
  • Can be applied to Reiterpallasch, transformed mode shot bullets benefit from Bolt Paper.
  • Cannot be applied to weapons with elemental blood gems.
