Kidnapper ❘ 人さらい

Strong Enemy

Description

  • You'll need to let a Kidnapper defeat you in order to infiltrate the Unseen Village of Yahar'gul. Kidnappers have high defense, but are very weak to poison; Poison Knives are a good idea. They can be interrupted and staggered, and give you plenty of opportunities to do so, making visceral attacks or charged attacks the best ways to defeat them. Kidnappers aren't very aggressive when you first encounter them; they'll walk slowly toward you and occasionally throw a punch. However, after losing 20% of their health they'll reinforce their attack damage with Madness Boost, become more vicious and begin using new moves. While under the effects of the attack boost, they'll move faster and perform punches, kicks and short combos. They'll respond to any damage you deal by leaping backward as a feint, then rushing back in to counter with a scissor kick. They'll also begin using a close-range grab and two attacks with their sacks: a frontal overhead slam and a 360-degree spin that will send you flying. Finally, they'll gain access to a spherical energy wave and a vortex spell that drags you toward them, both of which inflict no damage, but will cause you to stumble.

Strategy

  • As mentioned above, visceral attacks are the most effective strategy against these opponents. Once they've used Madness Boost, their melee attacks or sack swings are your best chances to interrupt them. Another reliable strategy is to bait them into backstepping by shooting them, then quickstep toward them as they counter with the scissor kick and stagger them with a charged attack while they recover Kidnappers take only moderate damage from Molotovs and Throwing Knives, but have extremely low resistance to Poison Knives - a mere two or three will usually poison them. You can also sometimes use environmental hazards or other enemies to do the job for you - the Kidnapper near the Lower Chapel can be shoved into the nearby bonfire and burned to death, while those in Yahar'gul can be lured into the path of a charging Maneater Boar.

Kidnapping Event

  • Yahar'gul, Unseen Village (Evening): To reach this area you're going to have to go against your natural instincts and actually let a specific enemy kill you. After defeating the boss in Old Yharnam, Kidnapper enemies will be released in various areas, and the first time one of them kills you, a cut-scene will trigger during which you'll be transported to this area. The Kidnappers can be found in the following areas:
Just outside the Oedon Chapel in the Cathedral Ward. To the side of the Lower Chapel in the Cathedral Ward. At the top of The Cliffs on Yahar'gul route in the Cathedral Ward.
In the Village Alleyways of the Healing Church Workshop. At the end of the Village Outskirts (Clinic route) in the Forbidden Woods.
  • It's important to remember, however, that you will still lose your Blood Echoes when the Kidnapper kills you, so make sure you spend them first before triggering the event or keep in mind to return to the place where Kidnapper killed you without dying along the way.

Blood Moon Event

  • Yahar'gul, Unseen Village (Blood Moon): When Blood Moon is triggered Kidnappers disappear from the main story and you can no longer meet them at the 5 locations mentioned above, same as ones previously in Yahar'gul (Evening) [image 01, image 02, image 03, image 04]. Furthermore 4 corpses of Kidnappers appear throughout Yahar'gul (Blood Moon) which can all be looted for Blood Stone Chunk x2 each. Areas of corpses are listed below:
Hypogean Gaol lower prisons area on Paarl route. Hypogean Gaol base storage area where Adella is met. In the small dead end path to your right in the main street.
In front of the corpse cart in the main street.

Notes

  • Kidnappers appear after Blood-starved Beast is defeated in Old Yharnam
  • Only Kidnappers from the main game (not Chalice Dungeons) will take you to the Unseen Village of Yahar'gul
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Kidnappers disappear when Blood Moon is triggered
  • During Kidnapper grab attack animation, damage can NOT be reduced by repeatedly pressing buttons (mashing).
  • Preset Chalice Dungeons: Pthumerian Labyrinth, Central Pthumerian Labyrinth, Lower Pthumerian Labyrinth
  • In unpatched version (1.0) Kidnapper had clearly audible line of dialogue "...kill..." when attacking. [video]

Kidnapper
Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.

Attack Patterns

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Madness Boost No Used when below 80% health, covers them in a red aura and increases their attack power.
Stun Blast No Area attack with wide radius. Inflicts no damage, but causes stumble; quickstep backward repeatedly.
Vacuum Vortex No Inflicts no damage, but causes you to stumble and drags you toward them; quickstep backward.
Jump Attack Yes Quick jump attack that carries them forward two meters; quickstep toward them or sideways.
Sack Smash Yes Slow overhead slam using their sacks. Will flatten you if it lands; interrupt or strafe backward.
Sack Swing Yes 360-degree sack swing with slow windup and knockdown effect; interrupt it or quickstep backward.
Chokehold Grab Yes Short-range grab attack with slow startup; quickstep backward.

Ritual Materials: Drop Pools

  • For the most part, items dropped by enemies are decided simply by a random per cent chance from that enemy's own list of potential items. When an enemy appears in a dungeon, it sometimes has one or more of its drops determined by the dungeon's Depth, in order to give better rewards for more challenging dungeons. Such items are selected from a pool of similar items, and these pools are shown here. The upshot of this is that an enemy might drop a Tomb Mold (1) in the Depth 1 Pthumerian Root Labyrinth, but would drop a Tomb Mold (5) instead in a Depth 5 Isz Gravestone dungeon.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
