Undead Giant (Twin Curved Blades) ❘ 死体の巨人

Boss

Description

    In-game Name (multi-language)
English: Undead Giant; Japanese: 死体の巨人; German: Untoter Riese; Spanish: Gigante No Muerto; French: Géant Mort-Vivant; Italian: Gigante Non Morto
    Internal Name
    Japanese: フレッシュゴーレム; Translation: Flesh Golem
Undead Giant, resident within Chalice Dungeons. Met on multiple occasions this particular kind has twin curved blades as his hands. Undead Giants are animated mounds of flesh akin to the Cramped Caskets, rather than their own being. They have stitching visible all over their body, where the pieces they're made up of separate.

Preparation

  • Rather than face the Undead Giant immediately after unlocking the gate leading to it, return to the Hunter's Dream to stock up on Blood Vials, Fire Paper, Quicksilver Bullets and Bone Marrow Ash. Bringing a decently upgraded Cannon or Flamesprayer into this fight can make it safer, but the quickest way to win is up close using a weapon with strong Bolt damage.

Overview

  • An Undead Giant is the first boss you will encounter In the Preset Chalice Dungeons. The two blades fused into both of its arms are used as its primary means of offense; its swings cover a wide range to its sides, while both its thrusts and overhead slices feature heavy tracking and long reach. From the front, its combos are long and slow, stringing up to a maximum of five hits.
  • During its combos it can damage you as it walks if you come into contact with its legs; this will deal a miniscule amount of damage, but it can very briefly cause you to flinch and open you to the Undead Giant's attacks. Standing close to its legs from the front is a bad idea, as it may use its dangerous Kick, which is somewhat faster than its other attacks.
  • Once you're behind the Undead Giant, it will attack much less often, using single swings from its sides and its Spinning Slice. When standing at a distance ahead of it, the Undead Giant will use its dangerous Leaping Blade Slam; while it's airborne its legs can repeatedly hit you. After its health drops to 50% it will begin using its Roaring Slam and Walking Thrust, which are both highly dangerous, though it will not change its behavior otherwise.
  • Main type of damage dealt by Undead Giant (Twin Curved Blades) is Physical, Blunt. Ground slam, jump and leg kicks are blunt for all three Undead Giant variants.  Forward blade thrusts deal Thrust damage, other melee attacks are physical. More information about main damage types for all bosses are on Boss Damage Types wiki page.

Strategy

  • Get behind the Undead Giant as soon as you can, and aim to stay there. It can only hit you with its Spinning Slice in this spot, so quickstep backwards once you see it begin to attack. Use Tonitrus or a weapon augmented with a Bolt Blood Gem to quickly shred off enormous portions of its health. Otherwise, apply a Bolt Paper to increase your weapon's damage and focus on hitting the large growth on the outer side of the its left knee; this will burst, depleting 25% of the Undead Giant's total health.
  • By hitting its head and each of its limbs, you can injure these parts separately, which will cause them to take 50% more damage; after some time the specifically injured limbs will have their defenses restored by the Recovery move, though this will allow you to injure them again. You can also stagger it by hitting its left and right legs, opening it up for a visceral attack.

Environment

  • The boss area is a circular chamber, strewn with bones and armor. Although this chamber offers plenty of room to maneuver and distance yourself to heal, you will need lots of space to quickstep back from its attacks and combos. If you aren't paying close attention you may end up backing yourself into a wall.

Notes

  • Preset Chalice Dungeons: Pthumerian Labyrinth (boss)
  • Undead Giant (Twin Curved Blades) has different variants, one with the lump below his bottom, one with lump on his left side (enemy & boss), one with no lump and flaming weapon.Lump can be broken as its weak point. All enemy variants has same stats (HP, Echoes, Defences, Multipliers & Bonuses) and same drop (pool & rates).
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Flaming weapon adds +70 flat fire damage to enemy attacks.
  • Undead Giant shown at the Playstation Experience event held on December 6th, 2014 had heated blades which could do fire damage and ignite oil in the swamp around it. [Image]; UPDATE: Three years later, on 19th November 2017, a group of Tomb Prospectors, led by KolbrotKommander (the creator of the dungeon) made the impossible discovery by officially sighting the first ever Flaming Undead Giant in a Depth 4 Cursed and Defiled Root Chalice L2, pa6ssc6u. Cooperation & Boss' HP

  • Having a summoned ally doesn't alter the health or difficulty of the enemies you'll fight, but it does affect the bosses. To ensure they are still a challenge, boss health is increased to 1.5x when a second co-op player enters your world, and to 2.0x when a third enters.

Undead Giant Weak Points

  • In Total and Part HP columns you will find value of the base HP without area multiplier. In Bloodborne each entity has own base HP (and NG) value which is then multiplied by the area (or part of the area) multiplier in which enemy or boss is in.
  • In the HP Percentage column you will find value of how much damage you need to deal to that body part to break it in percentage of total boss HP.
  • Enemies and Bosses can have multiple weak points which some are breakable (listed with multipliers) and take higher damage while broken while some will have only higher damage multipler the whole time (mainly listed in the notes section).

Arm 540 170 31.48% 1 1.50
Leg 540 220 40.74% 1 1.50
  • Notes: Twin Curved Blades Variant: By hitting its head and each of its limbs, you can injure these parts separately, which will cause them to take 50% more damage; after some time the specifically injured limbs will have their defenses restored by the Recovery move, though this will allow you to injure them again. You can also stagger it by hitting its left and right legs, opening it up for a visceral attack.

Attack Patterns Phase One

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Leaping Blade Slam No Leaps forward into the air and lands with both blades. Avoid by quickstepping to the either side.
Kick No Used by either leg; avoid by standing close to their legs for too long and quickstep back or to the side to avoid.
Recovery No Surrounds its injured parts with a red aura which restores their defense.
Spinning Slice No Slices while spinning almost 360 degree when standing behind it. Quickstep back once.
  • Phase 1 Strategy: Be prepared to roll or quickstep out of the way at a moment's notice once you have entered the room; the Undead Giant will spawn in the center, giving it just enough space to use its Leaping Blade Slam. Position yourself behind it as soon as possible; from behind you will only need to avoid a few attacks, instead of its long combos from the front. Its single right and left arm swipes used from behind are easily avoided by sticking directly to the center of its back, though you will need to watch carefully for when it draws its right arm to the left to use its Spinning Slice. You'll need to quickstep back to properly evade it. Utilize the Key Strategies detailed above; once you have decreased the defense of a part of its body by injuring it, you can attack it with the powered up Cannon or Flamesprayer for an absurd amount of damage When you need to heal, quickstep repeatedly out of its reach during its combos and heal while it continues, to prevent it from using its Leaping Blade Slam.

Attack Patterns Phase Two

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Roaring Slam No Roars and slams with both blades, sending out an area-of-effect shockwave; quickstep back as it roars.
Walking Thrust No High damage right handed-thrust with heavy tracking and knockback. Quickstep back twice to evade.
  • Phase 2 Strategy: When the Undead Giant's health has been reduced by 50%, it will use its Roaring Slam and begin to bleed profusely, signaling its second phase. Its Roaring Slam will create a high-damage (but short range) area Shockwave; quickstep backward when it roars and wait for the Shockwave to pass, then move in and hit it a few times. The Undead Giant will gain one other dangerous attack; its Walking Thrust. This attack targets a frontal area at mid range and will track you until its third step, at which point it will thrust; dodge this by quickstepping to either side slightly after the second step forward. Aside from the two moves gained during this phase, little else changes, so continue to handle it similarly to the first phase by sticking to its back, where it won't even use its Walking Thrust.

Blood Stones: Drop Pools

  • For the most part, items dropped by enemies are decided simply by a random percent chance from that enemy's own list of potential items. When an enemy appears in a dungeon, it sometimes has one or more of its drops determined by the dungeon's Depth, in order to give better rewards for more challenging dungeons. Such items are selected from a pool of similar items, and these pools are shown here. The upshot of this is that an enemy might drop a Blood Stone Shard in the Depth 1 Pthumerian Root Labyrinth, but would drop a Blood Stone Chunk instead in a Depth 5 Pthumeru Ihyll dungeon.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
