Giant Lost Child ❘ 捨て子の巨人

Strong Enemy

Description

  • These boulder-lobbing giants are positioned in hard-to-reach perches in the Nighmare Frontier and guarding the castle approach in the Nightmare of Mensis. They will constantly bombard you with giant rocks while you are within their line of sight. A direct hit from one of these massive projectiles is almost certain to spell instant death, and the shrapnel can damage you even after the initial impact. Although their melee attacks inflict heavy damage and will usually knock you down, they are extremely slow in combat and are quite vulnerable at close range. They use very basic punches and a ground-pounding combo, all of which can be avoided with forward or sideways quicksteps and nearly all of which leave plenty of time to stagger them with a charged R2 swing from behind. Their predictable swings are very easy to interrupt and even ordinary R1 combos will inflict heavy damage due to their low defense.

Strategy

  • When crossing areas watched by Giant Lost Children, use Blue Elixirs before entering their field of vision and try to run past them before the effect wears off; if you have no elixirs, ignore any other nearby enemies and keep moving to avoid the flying boulders. When you enter their melee range, immediately dash or quickstep behind them and stay there for the rest of the battle; they will be unable to hit you in this position, allowing you to cut them down with near-impunity. Visceral attacks are among the best way to defeat these foes, as their slow swings provide ample opportunities to interrupt or stagger them.
  • Alternately, simple R1 combos or transformation attacks will get the job done just as effectively. You can also use a Blue Elixir to sneak up on a Giant Lost Child and strike it with a Shaman Bone Blade, causing it to throw rocks at any other enemies in its massive range for virtually guaranteed kills Beware that if you approach undetected and throw the giant off a cliff with a visceral attack, you should check to make sure that you've actually killed it - these foes are usually perched on low cliffs overlooking solid ground and will often survive the fall if your visceral attack doesn't finish them. Apart from Blue Elixirs and Shaman Bone Blades, don't waste your consumable items on these enemies; they are easily defeated with melee weapons and aren't very dangerous in close combat as long as you stay behind them

Notes

  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]

Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.

Leaping Punch Yes Jump attack that travels forward four meters; quickstep forward or sideways.
Running Kick Yes Slow mid-range goal kick; quickstep forward or sideways.
Ground Pound Yes Short-range combo attack with slow startup; quickstep in any direction.
