Loran

The underground labyrinth is extremely large, and changes its form the deeper it goes. Each part has its own unique appearance and tendencies, though, and these are divided into four distinct areas: Pthumeru, Hintertomb, Loran and Isz.

Loran specifics

  • Every Loran dungeon is covered entirely in sand.
  • Loran dungeons are sometimes near to gigantic crevices, separating rooms with perilous rope bridges.
  • They are home to many beast-type enemies. Beast Patients are the most common enemy type.
  • Blood Gems that appear in Loran dungeons have a high chance to be Fire or Bold elemental.
  • Loran Silverbeasts guard floor levers.

General Notes

  • This is likely to be your first Depth five Chalice Dungeon, because the ritual to create it has the lowest material requirements. Even with the use of fully upgraded weapons and well-times interrupts and visceral attacks, battles will be long and intense at this Depth. It is better to tackle Depth five Chalice Labyrinths with a full online co-op team. When working together as a team, always look to draw enemies away from groups, to outnumber and team up on them.
  • Old Hunter Allies: With patch v1.07 a wide variety of new and existing NPCs have been added to the main game, the Old Hunters areas and the Chalice Dungeons to aid you during the hunt, particularly during boss fights. The conditions for summoning these allies vary; the “Old Hunter Bell” is a universal requirement for calling any of them. In some areas you may be able to summon up to two NPC Hunters. In Lower Loran you can summon Old Hunter Beastclaw Josef on Layer 3 for Loran Darkbeast boss, at the bottom of the spiral staircase room you can summon Beastclaw Jozef. Summoning him will not allow you to summon Old Hunter Vitus on this floor. You can also summon Old Hunter Vitus on Layer 3 for Loran Darkbeast boss, after entering the room with the locked gate leading to the boss chamber, head to the left to find the summon point.

  • Step 01:
The Scourge Beast in this tunnel will likely be your first real test in a Depth 5 Dungeon, so it's a good measure of how damaging and resilient your character is against enemies of this strength. If it's taking too long to kill the beast, it may be worthwhile going back to a Depth 4 Dungeon and leveling up some more. Remember to study up on what damage types the different enemies are weak against, to make sure you're always using the most effective means of killing them; since this is a Loran dungeon there are going to be a lot of Beast type enemies, so having.a good fire weapon is highly recommended.
  • Step 02:
The edge of the raised motif on the floor that's closest to the stairs in this room acts as a trigger point for a trap that will cause four Labyrinth Watchers to appear nearby. Not only will springing the trap unleash those enemies, but it will also awaken a Loran Silverbeast that's otherwise sitting down below. As long as you don't trigger that trap, you can either walk down the stairs to get behind the Silverbeast and use a charged R2, or you can drop down and using a plunging attack on it from above.

  • Step 03:
A Labyrinth Madman stands between you and the contents of the chest in this room, and he will start coming after you almost immediately after you enter the room so you won't have a lot of time to prepare for him. If you have a Blue Elixir, you can use it before entering the room, and then cross over to the opposite side of the room, walk around behind him, and use a charged R2 for an early advantage. Alternatively, you can lure him near the tree and use it to circle around so that you can hit him when his attacks miss.

  • Step 04:
The lever you need to pull is being guarded by a Loran Silverbeast, so unless you have a strong fire weapon it's going to be a difficult battle. If you have some Molotov Cocktails or the Flamesprayer you can lure it to one of the trees, and then circle around until an opportunity presents itself, or you can use a Blue Elixir before entering the room and sneak around behind him to start the fight with a charged R2, When you exit the room you can save yourself some time by dropping off the ledge to your right and landing on the platform below, instead of crossing both of the bridges again.

  • Step 05:
Another, stronger Loran Silverbeast is the boss you'll need to defeat on this floor He always approaches you from the flight of stairs to your left, giving you a momentary elevated advantage. You can also use the support pillars on this upper floor to your advantage to shield you from his flaming ranged attacks. Circle around the pillar at a safe distance until he fires up, and then flank around and attack him from behind while he recovers.

  • Step 01:
Upon entering this room you'll see a large group of female Beast Patients patrolling around an area just ahead to the left, and there's also a male Ashen Blood Beast Patient standing behind the pillar. If you have a highly upgraded fire weapon, it's possible to kill the Beast Patients in a single hit even at this level, and if that's the case all you need to do is lure them towards you in manageable numbers. Try to kill them all without going past the pillar, as that will allow you to walk up behind the Ashen Blood Beast Patient and kill it with a charged R2 from behind.
  • Step 02:
This room can be very difficult if you do not come prepared, and since the rewards are only consumables and the Blood Echoes from defeating the enemies, only enter if you want a challenge, especially if you're on your own. On the upper part of the room there are two Scourge Beasts and a Bell Ringer, and there's a second Bell Ringer walking around down on the lower part of the room. As usual, both Bell Ringers will be summoning Nightmare Apostles. Pungent Blood Cocktails will be your best friend if you're here solo, because you can use them to keep the Scourge Beasts busy while you take on the Bell Ringers and put an end to their summoning.

If possible you should ignore the Nightmare Apostles and only attack them if you can't run around them, so that you can take full advantage of the time given to you by the Blood Cocktails. You'll still need to use at least two or three of them to give yourself enough time to kill both Bell Ringers. You can speed things up slightly if you also happen to have a Shaman Bone Blade, because you can use it on one of the Scourge Beasts while it's distracted by a Blood Cocktail and let it do some of the work for you. When taking the room on in co-op, divide the tasks between players, with two of them on Bell Ringer duty while another deals with the Beasts.

  • Step 03:
A large group of enemies consisting of male and female Beast Patients are guarding the chest in the middle of this room, so make sure you either use Fire Paper on your weapon or have a fire weapon equipped before going in, to make things much easier. If you deal enough damage with your weapon of choice to kill these enemies in one hit, you should be able to work your way through the group relatively safely, but if you start to get surrounded, just fall back to the doorway and funnel the enemies through there.

  • Step 04:
Only a single Loran Silverbeast guards the chests in this room, and since you can get a number of extremely valuable materials, it's well worth the trip across the bridge. Just before entering this room you can pick up a pair of Pungent Blood Cocktails - use one of them to distract the Silverbeast long enough for you to get behind it for an easy kill.

  • Step 01:
A Bath Messenger shop can be found in this room, and along with the usual assortment of consumables, you'll also be able to buy the Sinister Lower Loran Root Chalice for 18000 Blood Echoes. This Chalice will let you create randomly generated dungeons that can also have the Sinister Bell Additional Rite activated if you're playing online, which means there will be Bell Ringers in the dungeon that summon other players. There are also some corpses you can loot in the room for some items, so grab them before you leave.
  • Step 02:
When crossing the stone bridge here you'll have to negotiate four swinging axe hazards, and because they are all close together, you have to make it past them in one go. Position yourself close to the first swinging axe by adjusting the camera so that it's facing the side of your character to give you the best perspective. Wait for the first axe to be directly in front of you, and then begin your sprint. You can make it past all four axes safely using this method from both sides.

  • Step 03:
There are two Loran Silverbeasts guarding the chest in this room: one at the top of the stairs, and one sitting with its back to you. If you walk slowly you can get close enough to the one to use a charged R2 and a Visceral Attack follow-up to kill it without alerting the other one. To make fighting the one at the top of the stairs easier, you may want to throw a Pungent Blood Cocktail up there once you're around halfway up to distract it and allow you to safely move in for the kill.

  • Step 04:
If you enter this room quietly, you can walk around to the left to get behind the Labyrinth Madman standing in the middle and use a charged R2 from behind to begin the fight. Once he's down, if you approach the closed door in the room you'll notice that there's a Scourge Beast on the other side; you can attack it safely through the door.

  • Step 05:
There are two ways you can enter this room, but the doorway gives you the best chance of trying to lure out some of the enemies to pick them off. Along with Beast Patients and a Nightmare Apostle, you'll also find a Keeper of the Old Lords and two Keeper's Hunting Dogs patrolling around the room. Try to peek into the room and lure out the Nightmare Apostle along with any Beast Patients that come into view using Pebbles or Throwing Knives, and then kill them outside away from the other enemies.

It's also worth trying to lure the two Hunting Dogs away from the Keeper by using a Pungent Blood Cocktail if you can. While they're distracted, try to locate the Keeper quickly and interrupt his attacks to stagger him, and then use a Shaman Bone Blade if you have one, or the follow-up of your choice if you don't. If you do connect with the Bone Blade, he should easily be able to take care of all the other enemies in the room for you. Alternatively, if the Pungent Blood Cocktail pulls the Hunting Dogs too far from the Keeper, you should use a Shaman Bone Blade on one of them instead, because it will still deal a lot of damage before its killed. Without using any Shaman Bone Blades you'll need to keep throwing Pungent Blood Cocktails to keep the dogs distracted while you kill them using fire-based attacks; Beast Blood Pellets will help speed this process up considerably.
