In-Game Description

Various coins that are particularly luminous.

There are very few uses for spare change during the hunt,
but these will serve as guides through the darkness.

Or, one could save them until morning, if it ever comes.
Note 1: The same in-game description in US & UK versions. ✓
Note 2: Original Japanese text on Original Japanese Item Index page. ✓

Effects

  • When you use a Shining Coin, your character will drop it on the ground. The coin will sparkle faintly; the main use is to guide other players in co-op. If you get separated, having a coin trail to follow will let you regroup; just be warned that invading players can follow them as well! Even in single player, it's helpful to mark the paths you've taken in a labyrinth. Some of the later Chalice Dungeons are very large, so knowing where you've already been can save you some time. You can carry 99 of them at once, and they aren't expensive. Use them to keep from getting lost.

  • Radiant Sword Hunter Badge: This badge can be found on the top of Healing Church Workshop. It is one of the most important badges to collect; obtaining it adds Bloodstone Shards to the shop's inventory, which will allow you to upgrade weapons easily. It also unlocks Fire Paper and Bone Marrow Ash; these are very useful support items.

Notes

  • Available for purchase after obtaining Radiant Sword Hunter Badge.
  • These coins can prove themselves to be useful in Chalice Dungeons to mark your way.
  • Used coins are visible to cooperators and adversaries.
  • Shining Coins don't get more expensive in all shop's inventory as you progress through the game unlike other consumables.
  • Testing maximum amount: End goal is to see how many placed Shining Coins it would take to crash the game. Testing area is Hunter's Dream for ability to buy additional coins. Excessive number of placed coins cause massive frame drops, that being said even after 7056 Shining Coins (8 hours later) dropped, game was still running albeit slowly.
