Labyrinth Watcher (Dagger) ❘ 遺跡の守り人

Regular Enemy

Description

  • Labyrinth Watchers are simple enemies that you'll only encounter inside Chalice Dungeons, and since they are one of the more common foes you'll encounter there, learning how to deal with them effectively is very important. Many of the different Watchers have ranged attacks to compliment their melee weapons, so even though they're weak, you'll still need to approach them cautiously if they're aware of your presence. Cleaver carrying Watchers are capable of throwing Molotov Cocktails a considerable distance, while those carrying daggers tend to favor poison knives or urns that inflict a tremendous amount of slow poison build-up. If you see one holding a lantern you can take comfort in the fact that they don't have a ranged attack, but they can use their lantern to alert nearby enemies and make them come running to its aid, so taking them out quickly and quietly is of upmost importance.
  • Outside of their weapons, the main difference you need to look out for is their attire. Watchers that have nothing on can be rolled into to knock them off balance giving you a small window to attack, those wearing clothes, however, will remain unaffected if you roll into them. Most types of Labyrinth Watcher can also be encountered through floor traps, that when stepped on summon a small group of them around you. Similarly, you'll often find that Bell Ringers summon these enemies, and during that time they are a lot more aggressive and will actively seek you out even if you are quite far away from the Bell Ringer; locate and kill the Bell Ringer to cause all of the Labyrinth Watchers under her control to die immediately.

Strategy

  • Dagger-wielding Labyrinth Watchers are quite common, so stocking up on antidotes before entering a dungeon will save you a lot of trouble and help conserve healing items. In battle, focus on taking these foes out first, since they will continually bombard you with poison projectiles while you're occupied with other enemies If nearby enemies are preventing you from being able to safely eliminate a dagger-wielding Labyrinth Watcher, lure them back to an area you've already cleared and deal with them before engaging the Watcher. Once you get close to them you can treat them in much the same way as the Cleaver-carrying Watchers.

  • Preset Chalice Dungeons: Pthumerian Labyrinth, Central Pthumerian Labyrinth, Hintertomb, Lower Hintertomb, Lower Pthumerian Labyrinth, Cursed Pthumerian Defilement, Ailing Loran, Lower Loran, Isz Gravestone, Pthumeru Ihyll
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • There are several versions of Labyrinth Watcher (Dagger), regular naked watcher, watcher with black clothes, watcher with white clothes (+ flaming weapon), watcher with twin daggers (strong), watcher with flaming weapon, watcher with red or purple aura and watchers (naked) summoned by Bell Ringer or trap. Also there is very rare variant of Laybrinth Watcher (dagger & lantern) that can be sometimes summoned by bell ringers in Root chalice dungeons. [regular, poison]
  • Summoned (red) naked version gives 19 Blood Echoes (base) and no drops.
  • Variant with the Flaming weapon has the same stats as the regular version but its Flaming weapon adds +70 flat fire damage to enemy attacks.
  • Poison and Strong versions drop random gem [4%]
  • Twin Dagger gives 114 Blood Echoes (unconfirmed yet Feb 1st, 2020)
  • Watchers with black clothes and fire version have 120 HP (base) and drops Fire Paper [6%]
  • Some of the watchers can throw knives.
  • Labyrinth Watchers in group will always have member who will point at you and call for reinforcements. It can be any variant of Labyrinth Watcher. Such groups only appear in a few room types. Note that „pointer“ will repeat his pointing animation every single time he aggros. [video]

Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.
