Abhorrent Beast ❘ 恐ろしい獣

Boss

Description

    In-game Name (multi-language)
English: Abhorrent Beast; Japanese: 恐ろしい獣; German: Widerliche Bestie; Spanish: Fera Repugnante; French: Bête Odieuse; Italian: Belva Ripugnante
    Internal Name
    Japanese: 嵐の獣; Translation: Storm Beast
Afflicted Beggar's horrifying true form. Aggressive and coated with lighting, such as of darkbeasts.

Preparation

  • An upgraded Flamesprayer will help a lot here, as will having some Bone Marrow Ash on hand; if it's already available at the shop in the Hunter's Dream, buy the maximum stock of 10 (even if you don't use all for this battle, they'll be useful against other strong enemies on). You might also consider buying as many Poison Knives as you can if they're in stock, though you can find six on the rooftop Up to 20 normal Throwing Knives are a good idea if ones aren't on sale yet; Fire Paper is extremely help- if you plan to use melee weapons, so bring a few if you have any left over from earlier areas. If you have an upgraded weapon that inflicts bonus damage against beasts, such as the Saw Cleaver or the Saw Spear, use it. Of course, if you fight the Abhorrent Beast at a point when you already have an upgraded Cannon, that'll help too.

Overview

  • The Abhorrent Beast moves and strikes quickly, has incredibly long reach and is extremely aggressive, leaving little opportunity to damage him or restore your health. Many of his ' moves cause knockdown or will launch you into the air; the rest will cause you to stumble and can make it nearly impossible to escape his combos.
  • He is highly weak against fire and incurs additional damage from serrated weapons, such as the Saw Spear; he also has extremely low status resistance and a single Poison Knife will poison him. He has effectively limitless super armor, to the extent that even a direct hit from the Cannon won't break his stride. He'll become increasingly aggressive as his health decreases, putting even more pressure on you to calculate your dodges carefully. You can injure his arms and head separately; once any of these parts have been injured, they will receive 50% more damage. By striking the head you can eventually stagger him, which will injure the head and open the beast up for a visceral attack.
  • Main type of damage dealt by Abhorrent Beast is Physical, Blunt. Only several arm slam attacks of phase 1 deal blunt damage, all other moves are physical. Despite its appearance and blood gem drops this boss deals no bolt damage at all. More information about main damage types for all bosses are on Boss Damage Types wiki page.

Strategy

  • Forbidden Woods: Attack the Afflicted Beggar and trigger him to transform, and then immediately run back into the hallway through which you first accessed the rooftop. The most effective way to use this strategy is to run far enough into the windmill that the Beast leaves combat and returns to his starting position with his back to you; at this point you can walk up slowly behind him without being detected and hit him with a Bone Marrow Ash-boosted Flamesprayer blast, then run back into the windmill before he can counterattack. None of his melee attacks will reach you if you stand far enough inside, but you'll still be able to hit him with Molotovs,Throwing Knives and the Cannon. When he transitions to his second phase he'll begin throwing blasts of wind into the hallway, so you'll need to time your ranged attacks carefully to avoid being struck while you're vulnerable.
  • Chalice Dungeon: Quickstep through his attacks as often as possible and strike his arms during the recovery; his punching combo is especially susceptible to this, allowing you to get a few hits in safely each time. Eventually, his arms will become injured and take 50% more damage, making this strategy very effective. Alternately, if you are having a hard time avoiding his attacks, you can use poison. A single Poison Knife will poison the Abhorrent Beast, making them incredibly useful throw one while luring him in a circle around the room, and then throw another once the effect has worn off. Most of his attacks have low forward momentum and will not reach far ahead, making them easy to avoid by quickstepping and continually backing up. You can almost kill the Abhorrent Beast with 20 Poison Knives, and although it will take a while, this is the safest way of handling him.

Environment

  • Forbidden Woods: You'll first be able to face the Abhorrent Beast atop a roof in the Forbidden Woods. This encounter is not technically a boss fight, so there are no fog barriers preventing you from retreating back into the windmill or falling off the roof; you can use this to your advantage by standing in the hallway out of reach of the Beast's melee attacks to recover your health or bombard him with projectiles. The elevation difference where the two slopes meet can be used to block the Beast's projectiles if it's on the opposite side from you, and can occasionally cause its attacks to pass over your head if you're standing far enough below it. When fighting him in the Forbidden Woods, the Beast cannot leave the rooftop under any circumstances, so don't waste your time trying to make him fall into the river.

Notes

  • Beast form of NPC Afflicted Beggar when attacked by the player.
  • If you attack Afflicted Beggar and he will turn into his beast form, he will still count as NPC for your fellow cooperators and they cannot hurt each other!
  • Despite Abhorrent Beast having 999 Rapid Poison resistance it is still vulnerable to such status. [video]
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Rally immunity: Abhorrent Beast is immune to rally from bolt damage type.
  • In various Root Dungeons you can rarely come across to Roaming Version who will act as strong enemy on your way to the layer boss
  • Possible connection to darkbeasts with lightning coursing through its body.
  • In game version 1.0, Abhorrent Beast in preset Chalice Dungeon Ailing Loran L3 has healthbar with name Loran Darkbeast. [Image]

Cooperation & Boss' HP

  • Having a summoned ally doesn't alter the health or difficulty of the enemies you'll fight, but it does affect the bosses. To ensure they are still a challenge, boss health is increased to 1.5x when a second co-op player enters your world, and to 2.0x when a third enters.

Abhorrent Beast Weak Points

  • In Total and Part HP columns you will find value of the base HP without area multiplier. In Bloodborne each entity has own base HP (and NG) value which is then multiplied by the area (or part of the area) multiplier in which enemy or boss is in.
  • In the HP Percentage column you will find value of how much damage you need to deal to that body part to break it in percentage of total boss HP.
  • Enemies and Bosses can have multiple weak points which some are breakable (listed with multipliers) and take higher damage while broken while some will have only higher damage multipler the whole time (mainly listed in the notes section).
Body Part Total HP Part HP HP [%] Damage X Damage X
after breaking
Abhorrent Beast | Chalice Dungeons
Head, Legs and Arms 1190 200 16.81% 1 1.50
Abhorrent Beast | Chalice Dungeons Roaming Boss
Head, Legs and Arms 600 200 33.33% 1 1.50
  • Notes: You can injure his arms and head separately; once any of these parts have been injured, they will receive 50% more damage. By striking the head you can eventually stagger him, which will injure the head and open the beast up for a visceral attack.

Attack Patterns Phase One

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Dash Punch No Fast long-range punch; if you use an item when he isn't performing another action, he'll punish you with this attack. Quickstep forward through it.
Punch Combo No Three swift punches with long reach and tracking; quickstep forward and stay behind him to avoid it
Storm Hammer No Downward hammer attack which creates a lightning bolt; targets a spherical area directly in front of him. If extremely close quickstep forward past him to avoid it; from farther away, quickstep backward or sideways.
Backward Chop No Counterclockwise horizontal swipe with his arm used if you strike him from the sides or behind. Targets a backward 180-degree arc; dodge it by quickstepping away from him.
  • Phase 1 Strategy: During this phase you can avoid all of his physical attacks by quickstepping forward through them and using additional quicksteps to stay behind him. He'll deliberately delay some of his swings to trick you into dodging too early, though. Stay beside or behind him, as most of his attacks won't reach there, but be prepared to quickstep away after hitting him once to avoid his Backward Chop.

When he uses his Storm Hammer, don't quickstep forward through it unless you're at extremely close range - it's active long enough to outlast your invincibility frames. The best opportunities to attack are after quickstepping forward past his slower swings. These openings can be used to recover your health if necessary; you can also back away from him until he uses a slower attack, then quickstep backward and use a Blood Vial before his attack animation ends. Don't attempt to use consumable items during his idle animation unless you're very far away from him - he'll respond to any such attempts with a swift dashing punch that will negate the HP you regain from Blood Vials and completely cancel slower items like Molotovs.

Attack Patterns Phase Two

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Tornado Blast No Throws a blast of wind forward. Quickstep forward past him if you're close, or backward if farther away.
  • Phase 2 Strategy: At 80% health, he'll announce phase 2 with a roar that charges his body with electricity. From this phase onward he will increase the number of hits in his combos, use his Tornado Blast attack and begin knocking you down and hitting you on the ground with arm slams or Storm Hammers. Stay behind him as much as possible, using your attacks and items only after he's committed to attacks; you'll have enough time to hit him with a single attack before he uses his Backward Chop, so quickstep backward immediately after striking.

Attack Patterns Phase Three

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Leaping Storm Hammer No Leaps forward and generates a large burst of lightning. Enormous area of effect; inescapable if he uses it while you're on the ground, but can be avoided by quickstepping toward him as soon as he initiates it.
Double Storm Hammer No Stationary double arm slam that generates a large spherical burst of electricity.Targets a frontal area reaching two meters forward. If extremely close, quickstep past him; if farther away, quickstep backward.
Flying Slash No Lunges forward and performs a horizontal slash, usually as part of a combo; quickstep forward.
Uppercut No Launcher usually mixed into a combo; extremely quick, but you can avoid it by quickstepping forward.
  • Phase 3 Strategy: When the Beast's health drops to 50% he'll charge himself up with even more electricity and become even more aggressive. He'll also begin making a focused effort to knock you down and hit you while you're helpless on the ground. He'll also start incorporating his Tornado Blast technique and all three Storm Hammer variations into his melee combos. From this point onward, avoid being hit by the Tornado Blast at all costs - if it knocks you down, he'll immediately use a Flying Slash or a Leaping Storm Hammer to hit you on the ground. Both of these attacks offer additional opportunities to hit him or use items, though, so be prepared to quickstep forward when you identify them in order to take advantage of the openings.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
