Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos ❘ 星の娘、エーブリエタース

Boss

Description

    In-game Name (multi-language)
English: Ebrietas, Daugther of the Cosmos; Japanese: 星の娘エーブリエタース; German: Ebrietas, Tochter des Kosmos; Spanish: Ebrietas, Hija del Cosmos; French: Ebrietas, Fille du Cosmos; Italian: Ebrietas, Figlia del Cosmo
    Internal Name
Japanese: 月の落とし子; Translation: Illegitimate Child of the Moon
Ebrietas is the left-behind Great One and communed and worked with the Healing Church in their research.
  • Ebrietas was possibly Pthumerian, as she is found by the The Scholars in a Pthumerian city. It is well documented that the Pthumerians’ research and experimentation with the Old Blood led to their ascension as they neared the eldritch Truth, however they were struck down before they could truly to ascend to being Great Ones. The Scourge of Beasts spread throughout the people, the Blood Moon rose. The Great Ones descended, and a womb was left with child. The Great Ones descended, Yharnam's pregnancy with Mergo was a failure, and so in search of a surrogate, Ebrietas, possibly a researcher of Pthumeru, ascended to the level of the Great Ones. It is so very interesting to me how Ebrietas is repeatedly referred to as having been left behind. Ebrietas is not a true Great One, instead she was ascended to becoming Kin just as Willem did. The Pthumerians are ancient, who knows how long it took for her to develop into her current form? Perhaps in a thousand years, Master Willem will look much like her as well.
  • She was abandoned, as the Great Ones left after the devastation of Pthumeru. And so she waited in the Labyrinth, caring for the Phantasms, small slug-like creatures which were named as being familiars of the Great Ones. And when The Scholars stumbled upon her in Isz, she would finally have an outlet with which to commune with the outside world.
  • Willem and The Scholars met with Ebrietas, and through her they began their research of the Old Blood, the tainted blood of Ebrietas, surrogate child of the Cosmos. It was through Ebrietas' tainted blood that the tragedy which struck Pthumeru would be doomed to repeat itself in the city of Yharnam.
  • Ebrietas seems to get her name from the Ebrietas Butterfly, a species of butterfly found in South America, which matches the, although admittedly distorted form, of Ebrietas as having an almost Butterfly-like appearance. Perhaps the Choir tried to use Ebrietas to give birth to a new generation of Great Ones. After all, she is seen mourning the death of a figure that looks an awful lot like Rom. Rom, the infant Great One. Rom, the Vacuous Spider. Rom, Daughter of Willem and Ebrietas. The Choir’s research had not been as successful as Willem’s, they were unable to reproduce his results. [The Paleblood Hunt by Redgrave]

Preparation

  • Ebrietas is weak against bolt and thrust attacks, so bring as much Bolt Paper as you can carry and a weapon capable of inflicting thrust damage - Ludwig's Holy Blade is ideal due to both its heavy R2 thrusts. Use a strong single-shot firearm such as the Hunter Pistol and stock up on Bone Marrow Ash, Quicksilver Bullets and Blood Vials; it's also a good idea to purchase 20 Throwing Knives so that you can continue to attack at range after running out of ammunition. Most importantly, buy as many Sedatives as you can hold - you'll need them to nullify Ebrietas' frenzy attacks. Both the Flamesprayer and the Cannon are capable of tearing down as much as 35% of her health in seconds, and can provide an important edge if you're struggling with this difficult battle; Oil Urns will make the Flamesprayer even more effective, so bring a few if you plan to use it.

Overview

  • You'll need to attack Ebrietas in order to initiate the battle, and any hits you land on her before her life bar appears will not inflict any damage. During the first Phase she'll crawl slowly toward you and attack from far away using her long tentacles; when you get close enough she'll try to crush you with her Head Smash. At mid to long range she'll periodically use her Forward Charge, a dangerous attack that can be extremely difficult to avoid; she'll also use a frontal grab attack which is much more easily evaded and will not usually reach you in the first place. Beware of Ebrietas' Blood Spit - a single hit from one of these attacks is almost guaranteed to max out your frenzy meter, so you'll need to keep your Sedatives close at hand in case of emergencies.
  • At the beginning of Phase 2, she'll surround herself in an aura that will constantly damage you as long as you're within its field of effect, and will begin using an even more dangerous charge attack as well as her Star Shower spell. She'll also become far more aggressive at this point, and will begin using faster melee combos with longer reach and more hits.
  • Main type of damage dealt by Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos is Blunt, Physical, Arcane. Head slams, ground and aerial charges, and overhead tentacle slams are blunt, other melee attacks are physical. Lasers and blood vomit deal Arcane damage. More information about main damage types for all bosses are on Boss Damage Types wiki page.

Strategy

  • Target Ebrietas' head with your strongest attacks and do your best to stagger her. She'll expose her head after her ram attacks and Head Smash, so your goal during both Phases should be to bait these attacks from as far away as possible and quickstep in to strike before she lifts her head. The vertical L2 attacks and especially the charged R2 thrusts of the transformed Holy Blade are ideal for this purpose, and the weapon can be further augmented with Bolt Paper for a small increase in damage. The Cannon and the Flamesprayer are very helpful for this purpose - when powered up with Bone Marrow Ash, direct hits from either of these weapons can inflict high damage and instantly stagger Ebrietas, allowing you to perform either a visceral attack or another powered-up blast while she's vulnerable.

Environment

  • This area is longer than it is wide and although there are no obstacles in the center, the edges are littered with rubble that creates tight corners and niches where you can become trapped if you're not careful. Keeping the battle to the full length of the cavern is essential for avoiding Ebrietas' ram attacks and giving you enough room to retreat if you need to use Blood Vials; pay close attention to your surroundings and do not under any circumstances allow yourself to be backed into a wall. After defeating Ebrietas you'll be able to access the altar at the far end of the chamber, allowing you to offer the Flesh of a Queen and advance the associated quest.

Old Hunter Summons

Location Requirement
  • Mensis Scholar Damian: In plain view in the hallway connecting the elevator to the Altar of Despair. Kill the Celestial Child first, or they may bite Damian and make him lose A LOT of health from frenzy damage.
  • None
  • With patch v1.07 you are able to summon NPCs to come to your aid, just like cooperative play, including inside Chalice Dungeons. To do so, first you will need to acquire the “Old Hunter Bell” from the messengers in the Hunter’s Dream. In some areas you may be able to summon up to two NPC Hunters.

Notes

  • During Ebrietas grab attack animation, ~40% damage can be reduced if you are repeatedly pressing buttons (mashing). Also with this technique there will be less Frenzy build up.
  • Despite Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos having 999 Slow Poison & Rapid Poison resistances it is still vulnerable to such status. [video]
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Upon boss defeat Altar of Despair lamp will spawn.
  • Ebrietas has to be killed if you want to revive Annalise at the altar.

Cooperation & Boss' HP

  • Having a summoned ally doesn't alter the health or difficulty of the enemies you'll fight, but it does affect the bosses. To ensure they are still a challenge, boss health, showed in table above, is increased to 1.5x when a second co-op player enters your world, and to 2.0x when a third enters.

Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos Weak Points

  • In Total and Part HP columns you will find value of the base HP without area multiplier. In Bloodborne each entity has own base HP (and NG) value which is then multiplied by the area (or part of the area) multiplier in which enemy or boss is in.
  • In the HP Percentage column you will find value of how much damage you need to deal to that body part to break it in percentage of total boss HP.
  • Enemies and Bosses can have multiple weak points which some are breakable (listed with multipliers) and take higher damage while broken while some will have only higher damage multipler the whole time (mainly listed in the notes section).

  • Notes: Target Ebrietas' head with your strongest attacks and do your best to stagger her. She'll expose her head after her ram attacks and Head Smash, so your goal during both Phases should be to bait these attacks from as far away as possible and quickstep in to strike before she lifts her head.

Attack Patterns Phase One

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Head Smash No Mid-range downward hammer attack with her head; quickstep backward one to two times depending on your distance from her.
Forward Charge No Long-range linear charge attack; quickstep backward two to three times or sideways at least three times.
Tentacle Slam No Forward tentacle slam with long reach; quickstep once to either side.
Crushing Grab No Close-range frontal grab attack; quickstep backward.
Forward Blood Spit No Inflicts frenzy. Two consecutive mid-range projectiles with linear trajectories and large spherical hitboxes; quickstep sideways.
Sweeping Blood Spit No Inflicts frenzy. Frontal 150-degree arc of large spherical projectiles; quickstep backward.
  • Phase 1 Strategy: Ebrietas' most dangerous attack during this Phase is her Forward Charge - to reliably escape it, you'll need to leave yourself plenty of room to back up and must begin quickstepping backward as soon as you see her shake her head. Ebrietas' head has extremely low defense, with the red interior portion between the two outer halves being its weakest point - if you manage to strike this area with any type of attack, she'll suffer tremendous damage and cringe away for a couple of seconds, giving you time to perform one to two follow-up strikes. If you deal heavy damage to her head in a short enough period of time she'll stagger, at which point you may use any of the tactics described in Strategies section. Focus on baiting either the Head Smash or Forward Charge so that Ebrietas lowers her head, then move in to strike; stay as far away as possible to avoid her tentacle attacks and if you aren't able to back away them in time, quickstep through them in the opposite direction of the swing. If she uses her Blood Spit ability, evade it according to - the move table and be sure your Sedatives are equipped for easy access. If you're using the Cannon or Flamesprayer strategies outlined in the Strategies section, the best time to unload on Ebrietas is when just over 50% of her health remains; doing so at this point in the battle will minimize the time you'll have to spend dealing with her extremely dangerous Phase 2 attacks.

Attack Patterns Phase Two

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Cosmic Radiation No Surrounds herself in a spherical aura that constantly damages you while in it. Cannot be evaded; avoid standing near her for too long or counteract it using regain.
Star Shower No Charges cosmic energy and releases three clusters of projectiles with strong tracking; quickstep sideways three to four times or dash sideways until all three bursts land.
Two-Stage Charge No Long-range flying ram attack followed by a head smash upon landing; quickstep backward. Or, quickstep once to avoid the charge and sideways to dodge the follow-up slam.
  • Phase 2 Strategy: When Ebrietas' health drops below 50%, she'll lower her head and channel her Cosmic Radiation, which gives you a few seconds to inflict serious damage to her head. She'll also begin using her Phase 2 moveset, as well as far deadlier slams and swings with her tentacles. At this point it is no longer safe to stand anywhere near her; you'll need to use the full length of the arena and keep her as far away as possible while you bait her ram attacks or Head Smash, and continue to attack her head when she exposes it. The most dangerous combo in this Phase is her Star Shower followed by her Two-Stage Charge. To deal with this, always make sure you have room to run away. When she uses her Star Shower spell, immediately unlock and sprint away for a few seconds, then run perpendicular to her until all three clusters of her Star Shower have fired. This avoids Star Shower, and also positions you safely to avoid a follow up Two-Stage Charge. Most of her attacks can be avoided in this Phase by simply quickstepping away, though you'll also need to be aware of your position so that you don't back yourself into a corner. If you need to get past Ebrietas and into the open, evade her next attack and dash or quickstep past her as she recovers; beware that if you don't leave yourself enough space for this purpose in the first place, you're likely to get hit anyway.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
