Amygdala ❘ アメンドーズ

Boss

Description

    In-game Name (multi-language)
English: Amygdala; Japanese: アメンドーズ; German: Amygdala; Spanish: Amygdala; French: Amygdala; Italian: Amygdala
    Internal Name
Japanese: 邪神 堕天使; Translation: Evil God Fallen Angel

Preparation

  • Bring the Cannon and a single-shot firearm like the Hunter Pistol or Evelyn, and be sure to purchase a full load of Bone Marrow Ash and Quicksilver Bullets; the Repeating Pistol is optional for higher burst damage, but consumes ammunition twice as quickly Throwing Knives and Molotovs are useful for backup ranged damage if you run out of bullets, and Oil Urns are handy if you plan on using Molotovs or the Flamesprayer; Fire and Bolt Paper are equally effective for increasing the power of your melee attacks.

Overview

  • Amygdala is an enormous opponent with incredibly long reach, but it also has several glaring weak points you can exploit to make the fight much easier. First, its head will take tremendous damage, even from normally weak sources such as pistols; second, focused attacks on its head will eventually stagger it and allow you to perform a frontal visceral attack; and third, there is a blind spot directly beneath its left thigh in which none of its attacks can hit you except a slow and easily-avoided stomp.
  • During Phase 1 it will use far-reaching overhead smashes and wide vertical sweeps with its long arms, and will attack the area in front it with exploding lasers.
  • In Phase 2 its slam and punch attacks will create explosions of energy and it will begin using a stronger version of its acid attack with a much wider area of effect; it will also fight somewhat more aggressively than the previous Phase.
  • At the beginning of Phase 3, Amygdala will rip off two of its own arms and begin wielding them as clubs, drastically increasing the range of its physical attacks, and will be more persistent about repositioning itself using its leap.
  • Main type of damage dealt by Amygdala is Blunt, Physical. Vomit, lasers and their explosions deal Physical damage, melee moveset is blunt. More information about main damage types for all bosses are on Boss Damage Types wiki page.

Strategy

  • Power up your firearms with Bone Marrow Ash and aim for Amygdala's head - a Cannon shot boosted in this manner will instantly stagger it and allow you to follow through with a visceral attack for even more damage, and when you no longer have enough ammunition to fire the Cannon, you can switch to your pistol and use the rest of your Bone Marrow Ash to make each shot hit much harder. You can also hit Amygdala in the head with melee attacks during its recovery, and the transformed overhead slashes of Ludwig's Holy Blade will reach during the boss' idle stance.
  • Popular Strategy: In Phase 1 and 2, wait in front at a safe distance for the moves where its head is down. Smack it as hard as possible. In Phase 3 (arm ripped), chill at the crotch and smash the crotch with an overhead weapon if you can. Move past the tail for the jump. It will land over you with its head right in front. Smack until Amygdala is dead. [Guide]

Environment

  • The boss area is an irregularly-shaped enclosure littered with debris and large poles. While Amygdala can and eventually will destroy the poles, beware of the uneven ground along the inside edge of the arena; the elevation difference in some places is enough to prevent you from being able to walk over it and can leave you with deceptively little room to back away from the boss' attacks. Keep the fight to the center and don't let yourself become trapped in a corner or against the outer wall, and watch out for debris and other obstacles when backing up.

Notes

  • Despite Amygdala having 999 Slow Poison & Rapid Poison resistances it is still vulnerable to such status. [video]
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Upon boss defeat Amygdala's Chamber lamp will spawn.

Amygdala

Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.

Cooperation & Boss' HP

  • Having a summoned ally doesn't alter the health or difficulty of the enemies you'll fight, but it does affect the bosses. To ensure they are still a challenge, boss health, showed in table above, is increased to 1.5x when a second co-op player enters your world, and to 2.0x when a third enters.

Amygdala Weak Points

  • In Total and Part HP columns you will find value of the base HP without area multiplier. In Bloodborne each entity has own base HP (and NG) value which is then multiplied by the area (or part of the area) multiplier in which enemy or boss is in.
  • In the HP Percentage column you will find value of how much damage you need to deal to that body part to break it in percentage of total boss HP.
  • Enemies and Bosses can have multiple weak points which some are breakable (listed with multipliers) and take higher damage while broken while some will have only higher damage multipler the whole time (mainly listed in the notes section).

Attack Patterns Phase One

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Pinpoint Lasers No Fires multiple small bursts of light in a frontal cone-shaped area; each crates a delayed explosion one second after landing. Quickstep or run sideways.
Straight Laser No Sweeps a long-range laser forward, then backward in a straight line; a series of explosions follow the laser's path after a one-second delay. Quickstep or run sideways.
Oscillating Laser No Sweeps a laser forward in a zigzag pattern, followed by a series of explosions along the same path one second later; quickstep sideways or backward.
Giant Leap No Leaps into the air and lands facing you. Only used to reposition itself and won't deliberately try to land on you; stand still and it will miss.
Stomp No Used with one or both feet when you're directly beneath its legs; lock off and walk away from whichever leg is being used for the attack.
Acid Pool No Excretes a pool of acid onto the ground below its head; quickstep away in any direction.
  • Phase 1 Strategy: Stand at long range and bait one of Amygdala's overhead slam attacks or wait for it to approach you, then shoot its head with the Cannon or other firearm powered up with Bone Marrow Ash and follow through with a visceral attack when it staggers. Staggering it in this manner will injure its head and you'll be unable to stagger it again for a short time, but it will eventually heal the injury with a quick red flash, at which point you can repeat the process. If solely using melee weapons, avoid standing directly beneath Amygdala's head or the core of its body and don't rush directly toward its legs while it's idle - it can strike all of these spots with downward punches and swipes, and will deliberately target the most direct path to its feet in an effort to catch you as you move in. Instead, stand directly beneath its left thigh and do not lock on; you can walk slowly to maintain this position while avoiding all of Amygdala's attacks and step out quickly during its recovery periods to attack its head and hands, or simply attack its body without moving from its blind spot. Its legs and tail take almost no damage but you can hit its pelvis and lower body with overhead swings for average damage, allowing you to chip away at it in relative safety

Attack Patterns Phase Two

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Large Acid Pool No Excretes a large amount of acid from its head and shakes it to either side; quickstep backward.
Energy Punch No Charges energy on its hands and slams the ground in front of it; quickstep backward and/or sideways, or stay under its legs and it won't use this attack.
  • Phase 2 Strategy: When its health drops to 70% Amygdala will roar, announcing the beginning of Phase 2. Although it will begin using more powerful versions of its overhead slams that generate explosions at the points of impact, the strategy during this part of the fight remains the same: either stand at long range and bait its attacks for an opportunity to blast its head, or stand under its left thigh and strike its head and body with melee attacks. Its arms remain viable targets as well, but don't get greedy - its ventral punch attacks will create multiple large explosions from this Phase onward, making it far more dangerous to stand directly beneath it. By hitting Amygdala's head with a Bone Marrow Ash Cannonball when it has about 40% health remaining and following through with a visceral attack, you can finish it off before or immediately after it initiates Phase 3.

Attack Patterns Phase Three

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Arm Club No Tears off two of its arms and uses them as clubs. Extremely long range; quickstep backward several times or stay under its legs where it can't hit you.
  • Phase 3 Strategy: When Amygdala's health falls below 30% it will rip off two of its arms and begin using them as clubs. Standing in front of it is far more dangerous during this Phase due to the vastly increased range of its melee attacks and it will reposition itself much more frequently using its leap, but even now the strategy remains the same. Although it's harder to target Amygdala's head with gunfire from beneath its legs, you can charge your gun with Bone Marrow Ash in the safety of its blind spot and rush out to shoot while it recovers from an attack; you can still target its remaining arms, but beware that it will continue using its exploding punches if you stand under it for too long.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
