Undead Giant (Hatchet and Cannon) ❘ 死体の巨人

Strong Enemy & Boss

Description

    In-game Name (multi-language)
English: Undead Giant; Japanese: 死体の巨人; German: Untoter Riese; Spanish: Gigante No Muerto; French: Géant Mort-Vivant; Italian: Gigante Non Morto
    Internal Name
    Japanese: フレッシュゴーレム; Translation: Flesh Golem
Undead Giants are animated mounds of flesh akin to the Cramped Caskets, rather than their own being. They have stitching visible all over their body, where the pieces they're made up of separate.

Overview

  • These hulking monstrosities have a large hatchet fused to their left arm, and a dangerous cannon chained to their right arm. Occasionally they are found with a large pink growth which can be attacked for massive amounts of damage until it bursts. From long range, they'll aim and fire cannon balls at you continuously. Upon impact, these will cause an explosion covering a large area, which you'll need to quickstep sideways repeatedly to properly evade. They may still use their cannon at close range, though only when you're standing in front of them or slightly ahead of their cannon. They can also use a powerful kick with good tracking when you get up close.
  • Taking these enemies on in close combat from the front is dangerous; from a little further away their frontal melee attacks are made up of telegraphed horizontal and vertical swings from their hatchet arm, and are all easily evaded with a quickstep backward. The safest place to stand is behind them, since they will attack less frequently and only using their Turnaround Swing. Most of their attacks cannot be interrupted, nor can they be staggered with a single charged attack from behind; however, they can be staggered by attacking their legs, which will open them to visceral attacks to their head. This can only be done once, and then you'll need to wait until after they have used their limb recovery, indicated by a swirling red particle effect, in order to do it again. Once they've lost 50% of their health, they will begin to use their Roaring Slam to create a large area-of-effect Shockwave - because of how heavily telegraphed this attack is, you'll have plenty.of time to quickstep away from it. They are weakest to bolt damage, making weapons augmented with Bolt Paper very useful for taking them out quickly.
  • Main type of damage dealt by Undead Giant (Hatchet and Cannon) is Physical, Blunt, Blood. Cannon shots deal Blood damage. Axe melee attacks deal Physical and cannon melee attacks deal Blunt. More information about main damage types for all bosses are on Boss Damage Types wiki page.

Strategy

  • Carry a few antidotes with you, since these enemies are usually found in poison swamps; bait them into the swamps to poison them while using antidotes to avoid taking damage. Apply a Bolt Paper to your weapon before approaching them and try to enter the range of their melee attacks as soon as possible to reduce the chance of them using their cannon shots. Immediately position yourself at their back, where you'll only need to deal with their Turnaround Swing - easily avoided by quickstepping back. Between their attacks and during their recoveries, attack their legs as often as possible to stagger them for visceral attacks. A decently upgraded Flamesprayer is effective by itself, though with Bone Marrow Ash applied it will inflict more damage.

Notes

  • As strong enemy in Preset Chalice Dungeons: Hintertomb and Lower Hintertomb
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Boss variant of this enemy has lump on its shoulder seving as the bosses weak point.
  • Undead Giant (Hatchet and Cannon) can appear in two variants one with lump on the left which serves as the weak point and other variant is without it. Both variants has the same stats (HP, Echoes, Defences, Multipliers & Bonuses).

Undead Giant (Hatchet and Cannon)
Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.

Cooperation & Boss' HP

  • Having a summoned ally doesn't alter the health or difficulty of the enemies you'll fight, but it does affect the bosses. To ensure they are still a challenge, boss health is increased to 1.5x when a second co-op player enters your world, and to 2.0x when a third enters.

Undead Giant Weak Points

  • In Total and Part HP columns you will find value of the base HP without area multiplier. In Bloodborne each entity has own base HP (and NG) value which is then multiplied by the area (or part of the area) multiplier in which enemy or boss is in.
  • In the HP Percentage column you will find value of how much damage you need to deal to that body part to break it in percentage of total boss HP.
  • Enemies and Bosses can have multiple weak points which some are breakable (listed with multipliers) and take higher damage while broken while some will have only higher damage multipler the whole time (mainly listed in the notes section).
Body Part Total HP Part HP HP [%] Damage X Damage X

Arm 540 170 31.48% 1 1.50
Leg 540 220 40.74% 1 1.50
  • Notes: Undead Giant (Hatchet and Cannon) Variant: They can be staggered by attacking their legs, which will open them to visceral attacks to their head. This can only be done once, and then you'll need to wait until after they have used their limb recovery, indicated by a swirling red particle effect, in order to do it again.

Attack Patterns

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Cannon Shot No Long range attack with heavy damage, cannon ball explodes upon impact; repeatedly quickstep to either side until you are out of the range of the cannon ball and its explosion.
Roaring Slam Yes Heavily telegraphed by their roaring, slams both arms down, creating a high damage area-of-effect shockwave; quickstep backwards.
Kick Yes Try not to stand too close to their front and they won't use it.
Turnaround Swing Yes Telegraphed swing reaching to behind them; quickstep back to avoid this.

Blood Stones: Drop Pools

  • For the most part, items dropped by enemies are decided simply by a random percent chance from that enemy's own list of potential items. When an enemy appears in a dungeon, it sometimes has one or more of its drops determined by the dungeon's Depth, in order to give better rewards for more challenging dungeons. Such items are selected from a pool of similar items, and these pools are shown here. The upshot of this is that an enemy might drop a Blood Stone Shard in the Depth 1 Pthumerian Root Labyrinth, but would drop a Blood Stone Chunk instead in a Depth 5 Pthumeru Ihyll dungeon.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
