Poison Knife ❘ 毒メス

Consumable

In-Game Description

    A knife slathered in poison.

This curved knife is as thin and sharp as a surgeon's blade.
Often used for self-defence by special doctors in the Healing
    Church.

They say that hunters traditionally avoid the use of poison,
likely because the poison is too slow to act in the heat of the
    hunt.
Note: The same in-game description in US & UK versions. ✓

Effects

  • Poison Knives are very similar to Throwing Knives in how they are used. Their physical damage scales with strength and skill, and, while they are weaker than normal Throwing Knives, they cause poison to build up in the enemy. When enough poison builds up, the enemy begins to take damage over time from the Slow Poisoning status. You can hold up to 20 in your inventory. Each Poison Knife inflicts poison build-up on the target, but the amount is reduced by the enemy's poison resistance; some enemies need to be hit with more knives than others. When poisoned, the enemy will take damage over time. Once again, this can be reduced by the enemy's poison resistance; some enemies will take very little damage. Note that only the physical portion of the knives' damage scales; the poison damage is unaffected by your stats.
  • Against some strong enemies, these knives are a life-saver. Once an enemy is poisoned, you are free to dodge or run away without attacking while it dies. In co-op with another player, coordinating knife usage can be very useful; by throwing Poison Knives together, you can poison an enemy much more quickly. This can also be useful to in conjunction with a weapon slotted with Murky Gems; the combination will help you build up the poison effect both from range and in melee. In PvP successfully poisoning another player will put pressure on them to use an Antidote or heal. This creates an opening for you to finish them off; keep up the pressure!

Testing

  • Versus other players:
  • 1500 HP baseline; 1468 HP initial; 935 HP ending; 1468-935 = 533 HP in total 1200 frames in total; 1200/30 = 40 seconds in total. -13 HP per 30 frames (1 second).
  • 1992 HP baseline; 1947 HP initial; 1414 HP ending; 1947-1414 = 533 HP in total; 1200 frames in total; 1200/30 = 40 seconds in total. -13 HP per 30 frames (1 second).
  • Results show that damage is not percentage based on total HP. -13 HP every 30 frames (30 frames per second), in total duration of ~40 seconds with total amount of damage dealt of ~520 + 13 (SP) on last knife.
  • Slow Poison resistance testing:
  • 086 res = -13HP; 533HP lost; 40 seconds
  • 154 res = -13HP; 533HP lost; 40 seconds
  • 238 res = -13HP; 533HP lost; 40 seconds
  • 438 res = -13HP; 533HP lost; 40 seconds
  • Slow Poison resitance has no effect on damage taken from Slow Poisoning nor duration.
  • Versus enemies: In NG you get constant number of -12 HP every second no matter enemy HP or its Slow Poison resistance. Therefore you will deal ~480 HP + 12 (SP) on last knife of damage from slow poisoning during its 40 second effect.

Scaling

  • Scaling determines how much additional damage a tool deals. The tool stat bonus, indicated by a letter grade of S / A / B / C / D / E, and the character's stat's current level each correspond to a percentage value. These are multiplied together and against the tool base damage to determine the bonus damage received. Poison Knife has letter grade of D for Strength and A for Skill. In the table below you will find exact (datamined) AR values for featured character stats.
Strength Skill Bloodtinge Arcane AR (phys.) --
