Fluorescent Flower ❘ 蛍花

Strong Enemy

Description

  • A unique enemy found on the lakeside patio at Byrgenwerth, and in Chalice Dungeons, the Fluorescent Flower can be targeted in two places: its large lower body and the luminescent flower dangling from its stalk. Its body has extremely high defense and takes very little damage from physical attacks; however, hitting the flower will send it into a rage and immediately trigger a counterattack using its stalk as a massive whip. In addition to these whipping swings, it also uses a short-range Bile Spit and a mid-range Leaping Grab, and at long range it will launch fireballs from its flower in sets of two.
  • Despite its large size and menacing appearance, it is completely incapable of attacking behind it and cannot turn fast enough to prevent you from staying there; its stalk whips can be avoided by quickstepping sideways and in the uncommon event that it uses its Leaping Grab, a forward quickstep will carry you to safety. While its Bile Spit will significantly damage your equipment if it connects, the Fluorescent Flower's only truly dangerous move is its long-range Double Fireball; you'll need to approach it using the nearby pillars for cover or conceal your presence with a Blue Elixir in order to avoid being hit Contrary to its venomous appearance, it is highly vulnerable to status ailments and can be poisoned by striking its flower with a single Poison Knife.

Strategy

  • You can use vertical attacks with overhead arcs such as the transformed (L2) combo of Ludwig's Holy Blade to strike the flower directly, but doing so requires that you position yourself in harm's way; it's much safer to simply target the flower from farther away and kill the creature in a few shots from your pistol. If you have even one Poison Knife, you can throw it at the dangling flower to poison the entire enemy and simply take cover inside the university building until it dies. For a faster (though still slightly risky) kill, you can lure one or two of the nearby Garden of Eyes enemies toward the Fluorescent Flower and stab it with a Shaman Bone Blade, causing them to attack each other and often resulting in the flower's defeat.

Variants

Basic variant found in Byrgenwerth. Under ground variant found in Chalice Dungeons. Ceiling variant found in Chalice Dungeons. (transparent ceiling)

Notes

  • During Fluorescent Flower grab attack animation, damage can NOT be reduced by repeatedly pressing buttons (mashing).
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Projectiles version drops 342 Blood Echoes.
  • Preset Chalice Dungeons: Pthumerian Labyrinth, Lower Pthumerian Labyrinth, Pthumeru Ihyll
  • All variants (regular, in the ground, in the ceiling & only flower visible) have same stats (HP, Echoes, Defences, Multipliers & Bonuses) and drop (pool & rates).
  • Ceiling variant of Fluorescent Flower can be found in Glyph: rdwb5ibh, F/R/C Isz Gravestone L3, main area. [video]

Fluorescent Flower
Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.

Attack Patterns

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Double Fireball No Launches two long-range fireballs in quick succession. Fireballs do not track but travel quickly; roll or quickstep sideways.
Leaping Grab No Leaps forward four meters and performs a frontal grab; quickstep sideways.
Bile Spit No Close-range frontal projectile that creates a lingering pool of acid on the ground with a small spherical area of effect; strafe backwards.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
