Hunters of Despair ❘ 絶望の狩人『A/B』

Hunter Enemy

Description

  • The Hunters of Despair wait at the edge of the poison pond leading to the final section of the Nightmare Frontier and will attack together when you approach. While it's extremely difficult to get to attention individually, the terrain provides plenty of cover and obstacles which can be used to separate them and make the battle a bit easier. The axe-wielding hunter uses the standard axe moveset and favors jump attacks, but will also make frequent use of its sweeping swings and forward stabs. He tends to prefer close combat but will occasionally shoot at you from long range. The cane-wielding hunter will periodically switch modes with his weapon and make use of its wide, sweeping arcs to prevent you from quickstepping past him; this can be particularly dangerous due to the many obstacles and terrain differences in the area where you'll encounter him. He'll occasionally throw a Poison Knife at you if you back out of range of his blunderbuss, and will pepper you with scattergun blasts from a distance while his partner closes in with his axe.

Stats & Equipment

  • Tables below consist of datamined stats and equipment, this specific information is for NPCs, hunters or less, that uses a player-like human model and skeleton, practically every NPC that can be equipped with player's gears. Some characters are equipped with items that they aren't programmed to use by the AI, such items are highlighted. All characters have infinite Quicksilver Bullets and 99 copies of any item they hold (including Blood Vials) and the only thing that prevents from infinitely consuming them is written in their AI script. For information about all characters visit Datamined NPCs Stats & Equipment wiki page.

Strategy

  • Try to eliminate any Loran Silverbeasts in the area before engaging the hunters. Interrupts work well against the axe-wielding hunter's slow attacks, but you'll have to lure him out of range of the cane-wielding hunter's blunderbuss in order to safely follow through with a visceral attack. R1 combos are effective after quickstepping forward through both hunters' swings; you can also lead them into the swamp until they become poisoned, then simply hang back until it finishes them or wears off. Stabbing the nearest group of Crawlers with a Shaman Bone Blade will cause the hunters to rush into the poison and begin fighting them, serving the dual purpose of weakening them directly and exposing them to the toxic muck.

Notes

  • Axe-wielding Hunter of Despair performs the "Hunter's Salutation" upon killing the player. [video]
