Key Item

In Game Description

Runesmith Caryll, student of Byrgenwerth, transcribed the
inhuman utterings of the Great Ones into what are now
    called Caryll Runes.

The hunter who retrieves this workshop tool can etch Caryll
Runes into the mind to attain their wondrous strength.

Provost Willem would have been proud of Caryll's runes, as
they do not rely upon blood in any measure.

  • After you obtain Rune Workshop Tool, approach the Memory Altar in the Workshop in the Hunter's Dream and press X to equip Runes in your memory slots.

  • Caryll Runes are special items that you can attach to your character. You can use up to four at one time, and they provide a variety of very helpful effects. Use them tactically depending on the environments you plan to explore and the enemies you expect to face.

  • You have three normal Memory Slots for basic runes, and a fourth "Oath Memory" slot. The basic runes are for use with normal Caryll Runes, and the Oath Memory slot is for Oath Runes only. Some runes have up to three different ranks, with higher ranked runes having more powerful effects. Try to collect the most powerful versions!

  • Oath Runes are special and can only be placed in your character's Oath Memory Slot. They each provide a unique effect, but their main function is actually to identify your faction in multiplayer. Be careful when selecting one of the Oath Runes, or you might find yourself fighting for the wrong faction!

Availability

  • Treasure in (Main Story): Hemwick Charnel Lane, if you follow the narrow hallway along from the back of the Witch of Hemwick boss room and enter the small room at the end you can find the Rune WorkshopTool on the body of one of the Witch's victims.

Notes

  • Upon starting New Game+ Rune Workshop Tool will stay in your inventory. Other Key Items (except for Badges, Blood Gem Workshop Tool, Short Ritual Root Chalice, Workshop Haze Extractor, Yharnam Stone and Ring of Betrothal) you acquired on your previous playthrough will be stripped away and you'll need to collect them again.
