Beast's Embrace ❘ 獣の抱擁

Caryll Rune

In-Game Description

After repeated experiments in controlling the scourge of
beasts, the gentle "Embrace" rune was discovered.

When its implementation failed, the "Embrace" became a
forbidden rune, but its knowledge became a foundation of
    the Healing Church.

Those who swear this oath take on a ghastly form, and enjoy
accentuated transformation effects, especially while wielding
    a beast weapon.

Overview

  • Caryll Runes are special items that you can attach to your character at the workshop in the Hunter's Dream. You can use up to four at onetime, and they provide a variety of very helpful effects. Use them tactically depending on the environments you plan to explore and the enemies you expect to face.
  • Before you can make use of Runes, you'll need the Rune Workshop Tool. This is found in Hemwick after defeating the Witch of Hemwick. After you have the tool, approach the Memory Altar in the Workshop and press X to equip Runes in your memory slots. You have three normal Memory Slots for basic runes, and a fourth "Oath Memory" slot. The basic runes are for use with normal Caryll Runes, and the Oath Memory slot is for Oath Runes only. They each provide an unique effect, but their main function is actually to identify your faction in multiplayer. For more details on the multiplayer system, check out PvP wiki page. Be careful when selecting one of the Oath Runes, or you might find yourself fighting another faction.
  • Beware! If you sell any Caryll Rune they will NOT respawn in New Game Plus.

Effects

  • New feature has been added in the Old Hunters expansion. Oath Rune obtained in the Hunter's Nightmare your character will transform into a beast, replete with a shaggy mane and fur physics. To make this new transformation complete you can equip the Beast Claw weapon to gain access to a completely unique and far more beastly moveset. To access this weapon, head for the Ailing Loran Chalice Dungeon and search the treasure room on Layer 2 just before that floor's first Lamp.
  • The Beasthood system has been made considerably more useful through a series of improvements to the Beast Claw, Beast Blood Pellets and the accumulation rate of the Beasthood meter. All of these upgrades combined mean that you can reliably deal more damage for longer periods, making a pure beast-mode play-style not only viable, but a very strong tactic in many situations.
  • While the increase to your Beasthood provided by this rune is only relatively small, it does have other rather more unique properties. Equipping the rune will cause your character model to undergo a slight transformation and take on a more beastly appearance, including a large fur mane. Additionally, if you have this rune equipped at the same time as the Beast Claw weapon, the moveset of the weapon will change, and you'll gain access to entirely new attacks. Character's dodge animation also change to fit new ghastly form.

Availability

  • Dropped by (Old Hunters DLC): Laurence, the First Vicar in Nightmare Grand Cathedral. To acquire this rune you will first need to get Laurence's Skull from the hidden altar in the Recovery Room, and then take it to the Nightmare Grand Cathedral in the Hunter's Nightmare so that you can face Laurence, the First Vicar. Upon defeating him you will automatically get the rune.

Notes

  • This Item is part of The Old Hunters DLC
  • Despite popular belief Beast's Embrace oath rune will not reduce your fall damage.
  • Equipping this Oath Rune will not make you vulnerable to Beasthunter effect of blood gems or benefit from curse effect that reduces damage against beasts.

Movement iFrames Roll Cancel Hyper Armor Notes
Standard
  • Roll Cancel: Roll cancel is the moment of the table that allows you to cancel the current animation into backstep, rolls or dashes.

  • Hyper Armor: It's a hidden statistic that prevents character from flinching or stumbling.

  • Bloodborne & Dark Souls 3 comparison:

  • DkS3 fast roll = 13 iframes, 21 frames roll cancel, (16 iframes bloodring)

  • DkS3 med roll = 13 iframes, 21 frames roll cancel, 12-20 frames hyper armor, (16 iframes bloodring)

  • DkS3 fat roll = 12 iframes, 28 frames roll cancel, 12-25 frames hyper armor, (15 iframes bloodring)

  • Consecutive BB forward dashes are 3 frames faster than DkS3 rolls. Consecutive BB bone forward dashes are 5 frames faster than DkS3 rolls. Both dashes have 2 frames and 5 frames less i-frames respectively than DkS3 rolls.
