Corruption ❘ 「穢れ」

Caryll Rune

In-Game Description

A secret symbol left by Caryll, runesmith of Byrgenwerth.

Several runes contain a nuance of "Blood," including the
rune of "Corruption," associated with the oath of the corrupt.

Pledgers to this oath are Cainhurst Vilebloods, hunters of
blood who find dregs for their Queen in coldblood,
    particularly in that of hunters.

Yet the corrupt are heretics in the eyes of the Church, and
thus subject to the wrath of the Executioners.
Note: The same in-game description in US & UK versions. ✓

Overview

  • Caryll Runes are special items that you can attach to your character at the workshop in the Hunter's Dream. You can use up to four at onetime, and they provide a variety of very helpful effects. Use them tactically depending on the environments you plan to explore and the enemies you expect to face.
  • Before you can make use of Runes, you'll need the Rune Workshop Tool. This is found in Hemwick after defeating the Witch of Hemwick. After you have the tool, approach the Memory Altar in the Workshop and press X to equip Runes in your memory slots. You have three normal Memory Slots for basic runes, and a fourth "Oath Memory" slot. The basic runes are for use with normal Caryll Runes, and the Oath Memory slot is for Oath Runes only. They each provide an unique effect, but their main function is actually to identify your faction in multiplayer. For more details on the multiplayer system, check out PvP wiki page. Be careful when selecting one of the Oath Runes, or you might find yourself fighting another faction.
  • Beware! If you sell any Caryll Rune they will NOT respawn in New Game Plus.

Effects

  • The Corruption Oath effect provides you with a small amount of continuous healing when you are low on health. This effect can save you, of course, but it can also work against you. If you like to use the Poorman effect on your weapons, be warned that the healing from Corruption can ruin the effect. This Rune will mark you as a Vileblood.
  • When Corruption oath rune is equipped killing other Hunters [Players / Hunter Enemies] and few NPCs will grant you Blood Dreg.
  • NPCs who will drop Blood Dreg are:
  • Alfred, Hunter of Vilebloods; Brador, Church Assassin; Eileen the Crow; Retired Hunter Djura; Simon, Seeker of Secrets; Valtr, Master of the League; Yamamura the Wanderer
  • Hunter Enemies who will drop Blood Dreg are:
  • Yahar'gul Hunter (Rifle Spear & Ludwig's Rifle); Yahar'gul Hunter (Tonitrus & Wooden Shield); Blood Crow of Cainhurst; Djura's Ally; Hunter of Despair (Hunter Axe); Hunter of Despair (Threaded Cane); Old Hunter Henryk; Yurie, the Last Scholar; Yahar'gul Hunter (Threaded Cane & Flamesprayer); Yahar'gul Hunter (Beast Claw & Hunter Pistol); Yahar'gul Hunter (Rifle Spear & Cannon); Choir Intelligencer Edgar; Younger Madaras Twin; Djura's Disciple; Bestial Hunter; Church Doctor (Ludwig's Holy Blade & R. Pistol); Church Doctor (Threaded Cane); Yahar'gul Hunter (Church Pick & R. Pistol); Church Doctor (Threaded Cane & R. Pistol)
  • Testing: Continuous heal near death triggers when HP drops below ~12.5% of your total HP and will heal until this value is reached back again. Rune effect heals 1 HP every 60 frames, making it +0.5 HP (30 frames/s) every second.
  • Online Factional Conflict: Your Oath Memory Slot marks your factional alignment. There are four possible Oath types: 'Corruption' for Vileblood, 'Radiance' for Executioner, 'Hunter' for Hunter of Hunters, and 'None'. Executioner and Vileblood are naturally opposed to each other, and Hunter of Hunters has a set chance to oppose players with any of affiliations. By using the Sinister Resonant Bell, you have a 5% chance of becoming a "Blood Addled" Hunter, which is in opposition to Hunter of Hunters. If you attempt to join a co-op session as a guest and the host is a member of an opposing faction, you will instead be summed with the task of killing the host as a nemesis. For example, if you bear the Radiance Rune and the server's matchmaking pairs you with a player bearing Corruption, you will be summoned as a nemesis, even if you intended to join co-op play! Similar to using the Sinister Resonant Bell, the rewards for killing the host are 10% of the Blood Echoes they require to level up and 1 point of Insight.

Availability

  • Acquired from (Main Story): Annalise, Queen of Castle Cainhurst in Forsaken Cainhurst Castle Queen's Chamber [Night / Blood Moon]. Swear an oath to the Vilebloods

Notes

  • Cainhurst Vilebloods and Executioners are hostile covenants, summoning player from Executioners covenant even for cooperation will lead to PvP
