  • Full Storage Glitch

Full Storage Glitch [source]

  • The Full Storage glitch is a group of bugs that occur in Bloodborne when a player character has their inventory and storage completely filled. In this state, the game often breaks in a lot of unexpected ways, including the permanent corruption of the character save.

Basics

  • In Bloodborne, player items can be stored either in inventory or a storage. Once the inventory is full, items get sent to the storage, which can only be accessed from Hunter’s Dream. Once both inventory and storage are full, the player will not be able to pick up any items or equipment, except the key items. Instead, when trying to pick these items up, they will be dropped on the floor.
  • Both inventory and storage have 1984 “slots” each, where each slot can store either a stack of stackable items or a non-stackable item like a weapon, blood gem or a piece of attire.

Glitches that only require full inventory

  • Loading into most main game areas while having a full inventory often breaks multiple things in game. Notably, quitting the game with full (or nearly full) inventory will permanently corrupt the save, making you lose that character forever. The number of free slots that are required for safe quitting differs between areas, from at least 42 in Hunter’s Dream to 300+ in Cathedral Ward.
  • The first and the most common effect is all lootables on the map being broken, only giving an error message when trying to pick them up (besides key items which can still be looted normally). It has roughly a 50% chance to occur in most areas, while some maps don’t seem to be able to trigger it at all. Despite the error, the game still considers these items looted after the interaction, causing items like runes to be permanently lost for this character.
  • Trying to buy weapons from bath messengers will display a prompt that the weapon bought has been sent to your storage. However, these weapons will spawn there at zero durability, including left-hand weapons which normally do not consume any durability. This is the only way outside save editing to get broken firearms. One particular example is broken hunter’s blunderbuss which deals 0 damage to players and some blood-resistant mobs when broken at +0 with minimum bloodtinge stat.
  • Another, less common but significantly more bizarre result is the in-game NPCs losing all their weapons and attire. Hostile NPCs will have an invisible weapon with a moveset of Hunter’s Axe with no hitboxes. They can still use their consumables normally, though.
  • This glitch triggers with varied chances, often requiring loading into a separate area and then walking all the way to the NPC instead of warping. It doesn’t seem to occur at all in the maps that have no connections with other areas, like Nightmare of Mensis or chalice dungeons.

Glitches that require full inventory and storage

  • When trying to pick up an item while having both inventory and storage full, the game will give you a warning message and drop that item on the floor. However, trying to pick up the item repeatedly causes it to increase its quantity by 1 each time. For normally stackable items like consumables and materials, it will simply create a stack of them, identical to regular lootables. However, it will also work on normally non-stackable items like weapons and blood gems. The result will be a “stack” which acts like a normal singular equipment piece except the number displayed and a prompt to select quantity when selling/discarding.
  • Putting any amount of this “stacked” item to storage causes a “clone” of it to appear, resetting the quantity of both original item and clone to 1. The behavior of the “clone” differs between item types. Weapons and armor seem to act like normal. Blood gems will mark both the original and a clone as equipped when either is slotted into a weapon, however, letting you to slot the clone as well afterwards. Runes, however, will not let you equip the clone once the original is equipped.
