Madaras Whistle animation cancel

  • Madaras Whistle has an unique ability to hit the player that used it, causing them to be sent flying and canceling any current animation. This can be exploited on several occasions, notably during the door opening animations.
  • To cancel the door opening animation, you need to use the whistle while standing near the door and walking towards it, then start mashing the interaction button right before the whistle use animation ends. If done correctly, the snake will hit your character right as you start the opening animation, knocking you up in the air while the door opens itself. Normally most door opening animations make your character walk forward, whistle cancel will make you stay outside the door. This is the most important part since in most boss arenas the door opening animation makes you automatically touch the bossfight activation trigger. Turns out that one of the chalice arenas (the large tunnel, used for story Lower Pthumeru Undead Giant and Great Pthumeru Ihyll headless bloodletting beast) has the trigger quite far from the door, letting the player to simply walk around it without activating the fight. To avoid touching it, carefully walk around the left door and hug the wall on your left. This will let you enter the arena with inactive boss AI, letting you skip to the next dungeon layer. It is also possible to jump through the entrance door using a beast embrace claw jumping attack, which will activate the bossfight while putting you outside the arena. It is possible to get invaded with bossfight active that way, and killing the boss will reward the invader with typical coop rewards.
  • Another use of this glitch is to access the area behind the doors in Lecture Building that normally lead to Nightmare Frontier and Nightmare of Mensis. By canceling the opening animation, quickly running inside and quitting the game before it loads the next area you can respawn behind these doors. Both doors hide a small square room with no wall collision, and the door on the 2nd floor hides a fairly long invisible corridor.

Photo booth glyphs

  • “Photo booth” refers to a series of exploits that allow multiple players to get inside the boss arena without triggering the boss AI. Normally, the game does not allow ringing any bells within the arena or adjacent territory, nor does it save the player position while the boss is alive (the concept known as “unstable ground”). In the chalice dungeons, however, there are several exceptions from this rule.
  • Chalice dungeons block any summoning within the boss arena and the elevator shaft behind it. But some arena types have an additional passage between rear entrance and elevator, and this part counts as stable ground where the bells can be rung. Of all possible boss arenas, only 4 have such parts:
  • Small circular pillared arena
  • Large circular pillared arena
  • Cave arena
  • Double staircase arena (starting in the bottom part)
  • In these 4 arenas, cooperators and invaders can be summoned on a staircase/ladder behind the arena and are able to enter the boss arena, as long as the host hadn’t triggered the fight (which causes the fog walls to spawn). This, however, does not let the host enter the arena without activating the boss. To achieve that, the host has to either abuse the madaras whistle door opening animation cancel or bypass the current layer boss in various ways using the dungeon merging. Bypassing the layer with merging involves using the “photo booth” dungeon as a donor to drop onto the subsequent layer in the base dungeon, backtracking all the way to the lantern without reloading and activating it. After closing the game or warping to the hunter’s dream, the game will apply base dungeon progress to the donor, thus activating the next layer lamp in the “photo booth” dungeon while keeping previous layer boss alive and inactive.
  • In order to get all five cooperators, the dungeon needs to be one of the Sinister maps. Since not every boss spawns in these arenas and a lot of layer 1-2 bosses are invisible until the bossfight has been activated, only the following ones can currently be photo-boothed:
  • Blood-starved Beast
  • Headless Bloodletting Beast
  • Abhorrent Beast
  • Celestial Emissary
  • Watchdog of the Old Lords
  • Pthumerian Elder
  • Pthumerian Descendant
  • Some of these bosses can be attacked by players, while others appear to have no hurtboxes. However, the boss completely ignores damage dealt by the host, except for Madaras Whistle. Once the bossfight is activated, the boss will regenerate HP based on cooperators present in the world. If there are none, the boss will have an empty health bar and die from one hit.
  • It is possible, albeit extremely difficult, to lure the Beast-Possessed Soul from the previous layer inside the arena.
