Caryll Rune

In-Game Description

A secret symbol left by Caryll, runesmith of Byrgenwerth.

This transcription of the Great Ones' inhuman voices
    depicts downreaching currents.

This rune means "Deep Sea," and grants augmented
resistance. Great volumes of water serve as a bulwark
guarding sleep, and an augur of the eldritch Truth.

Overcome this hindrance, and seek what is yours.

Overview

  • Caryll Runes are special items that you can attach to your character at the workshop in the Hunter's Dream. You can use up to four at onetime, and they provide a variety of very helpful effects. Use them tactically depending on the environments you plan to explore and the enemies you expect to face.
  • Before you can make use of Runes, you'll need the Rune Workshop Tool. This is found in Hemwick after defeating the Witch of Hemwick. After you have the tool, approach the Memory Altar in the Workshop and press X to equip Runes in your memory slots. You have three normal Memory Slots for basic runes, and a fourth "Oath Memory" slot. The basic runes are for use with normal Caryll Runes, and the Oath Memory slot is for Oath Runes only. Some runes have up to three different ranks, with higher ranked runes having more powerful effects.
  • Beware if you sell any Caryll Rune they will NOT respawn in New Game Plus.

Effects

  • Clear Deep Sea adds Slow Poison resistance. It's useful any time you are up against that status. Within the main game, Nightmare Frontier is where you'll find it most useful. Slow Poison also shows up in Chalice Dungeons fairly frequently, and other players will be eager to use it against you as well.

Availability

  • Tier (1): Treasure in (Main Story): Forbidden Woods; end of the Cliffside Path, after the Large Windmill, behind the tombstone. If you need further assistance to find the rune, you can follow the Forbidden Woods Map.
  • Tier (2): Treasure in (Main Story): Nightmare Frontier; Rocky Outcrop on the other side of Central Swamp Bank. If you need further assistance to find the rune, you can follow the full Nightmare Frontier Map.
  • Tier (3): Treasure in (Root Dungeons): Lower Loran; rvx9wya7, F/R/C Lower Loran L1, bonus area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020]; alternatively found in False Depth Dungeon, ytc6wn3u, Lower Loran L1, side area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020]

Notes

  • Unique Coffin Item Treasure (available) in (Root Dungeons): Clear Deep Sea +300 in Lower Loran [All Layers] and Sinister Lower Loran [All Layers], could be found in each bonus room and can only be looted once. For entire unique items list of each chalice follow to the Unique Items in Chalice Dungeons wiki page.
  • One of the four Deep Sea Caryll Runes, the other three are Great Deep Sea, Stunning Deep Sea and Deep Sea.
  • Renamed from Murky Deep Sea to Clear Deep Sea with Patch v1.01. The Murky Deep Sea Rune is mentioned on some pages of the Strategy guide and was screen-shotted shortly before and after the games release. They have the exact same attributes and can be found in the same locations.
