Pthumeru

The underground labyrinth is extremely large, and changes its form the deeper it goes. Each part has its own unique appearance and tendencies, though, and these are divided into four distinct areas: Pthumeru, Hintertomb, Loran and Isz.

Pthumeru specifics

  • The standard area type, usually with a basic room structure.
  • No particular elemental type dominates.
  • Kidnappers appear often.
  • Merciless Watchers guard floor levers.

General Notes

  • After going through Ailing Loran you should have the two Bastards of Loran and nine Ritual Blood (4) needed for crafting this Dungeon. For the 22 Arcane Hazes, you may want to kill some Fluorescent Flowers on the third level of the first Pthumerian Labyrinth in the garden plaza. Alternately, you can use the Workshop Haze Extractor you collected from the Lower Pthumerian Labyrinth to extract the Arcane Hazes you need. In order to avoid sacrificing the rare, ritual crafting items you have amassed so far, use only the materials you can also purchase at either the Blood Echoes or Insight Bath Messenger shops in the Hunter's Dream.
  • The most challenging aspect of this 'cursed' Depth four Chalice Labyrinth is that your HP is lowered by 50%. Needless to say, having a character build with high Vitality will help a lot here. All Blood Gems collected from this and other cursed labyrinths are, naturally, cursed. This means adding them to your equipped weapon is going to have some kind of detrimental effect on your character or that particular weapon's performance, but the gem's benefits can also be higher than usual.
  • Old Hunter Allies: With patch v1.07 a wide variety of new and existing NPCs have been added to the main game, the Old Hunters areas and the Chalice Dungeons to aid you during the hunt, particularly during boss fights. The conditions for summoning these allies vary; the “Old Hunter Bell” is a universal requirement for calling any of them. In some areas you may be able to summon up to two NPC Hunters. In Cursed Pthumerian Defilement you can summon Tomb Prospector Olek on Layer 2 for Watchdog of the Old Lords boss, his sign is a little to the left of where you enter the large stone elevator room. Summoning Olek will remove your ability to summon Queen Killer and vice versa. You can also summon Old Hunter Queen Killer on Layer 2 for Watchdog of the Old Lords boss, his sign is just before you open the door to the boss room you can find the summon point for Old Hunter Queen Killer to your left. And on Layer 3 for Amygdala, this summon point can be found to the left of the stairs that lead down to the boss room. Both Queen Killer and Madman Wallar can be summoned to take on Amygdala together. You can also summon Madman Wallar on Layer 3 for Amygdala boss, his sign is in the ladder pit room with the locked exit gate facing you as you enter. Just look to your left to spot the summon point. Both Madman Wallar and Queen Killer can be summoned to take on Amygdala together.
  • The Cursed and Defiled Chalice (Pthumeru Shared Fixed Dungeon line, depth 4) is often regarded as one of the most difficult chalice dungeons in the mandatory series.

  • Besides having fairly complicated bosses on average, this chalice is the only one of the standard lot to impose the Cursed rite on players, halving their HP and seriously reducing their room for error. This becomes an issue when the enemies deal a ton of damage; unfortunately, all bosses you will have to face in Defiled check this box. Besides, since it's a mandatory step in acquiring the platinum trophy, more or less all hunters pass through this chalice sooner or later; many first-time dungeon runners struggle with the added difficulty.

  • For these reasons, Defiled is a summoning hotspot, and definitely one of the most active chalices in online play. Moreover, the Old Hunters expansion adds two NPCs available for summon: Tomb Prospector Olek and Queen Killer.

  • This is guide to summoning for help in Defiled Chalice. Even though extra help is nice, this dungeon is also one whose bosses are not the easiest to defeat in a group; not only that, summoning people may make things even more complicated than they were.

For everyone: the boss health bars

  • The first important thing to note for everyone is that, whenever you summon for help, the boss health bars will increase regardless of whether you summon NPCs or players. They do so as follows:

  • Multiplied by 1.5x with one helper
  • Multiplied 2.0x with two helpers

  • For this reason, it is not advisable to summon more than one player in Defiled, as the increased health bar will very likely outpower your combined damage ratio.

  • This rule applies to most cases; on occasion, fighting with two live players can be extra helpful, depending on their build and damage output. What I absolutely advise against in this specific chalice is summoning a live player and a bot, or even two bots.

  • Bots will never compensate with their damage ratio and will likely die very quickly, leaving you and your co-operator alone with a double health bar.

  • However, if your co-operator has good enough damage and has skill, they can use the bot as a further distraction for you both and lower health bars quickly.

Offline and online: the perks

  • If you are an online player, summoning help from live players will almost in all cases be preferable to summoning bots. Bot AI is really aggressive; they end up taking a lot of damage and dying fast, as they have a limited number of heals and don't dodge nearly enough.

  • If you are an offline player, summoning bots can make for an excellent distraction and help you dish out a massive amount of damage in the bots' lifespan. If you have a low damage build, however, the convenience of summoning depends on how independent you are in the fighting.

General setups from most to least efficient

  • One online helper
  • Two online helpers or one bot
  • One online helper and one bot (convenient in some cases)
  • Two bots (don't use)

Boss 1: Keeper of the Old Lords

  • Summoning options: Online players
  • On her own, Keeper is an easier boss than most players think. She gets stunned fast, and her AI is easily locked into a parry spam cycle. Continuous parries + Oedon Writhe rune can prevent her from ever reaching second phase. On the other hand, her attacks are almost entirely comprised of one-shot moves, making hers a tough fight if not handled with care.

  • I generally never summon for this boss, but if you do need help, one/two online player(s) can help you distract her, leaving her to turn around and face either of you so the other can backstab.

  • If you have enough stamina, you and your helper(s) can also push Keeper against a wall and dish out damage in turns, leaving her locked in an endless attack cycle. She is very prone to backstepping, so use it to your advantage. Just make sure she never, ever has the time to counter, or you both will be dead in no time.

  • In short: better fought alone, but can be easiest in co-op with one or two players.

Boss 2: Watchdog of the Old Lords

  • Summoning options: Online players, Tomb Prospector Olek, Queen Killer

  • One of my personal favorites among chalice dungeon bosses, Watchdog is infamous for his high difficulty to new players. He is very aggressive, has a varied moveset and can rely on some attacks that aren't heavily telegraphed.

  • Be warned that Watchdog has a deadly charge attack, and long-range tools will almost always trigger it, with often unpredictable tracking. Having a co-oper will usually mess with the tracking and save you both, but lag and unpredictability can ruin you; it's a double edged sword. Try not to hit Watchdog from afar when someone else is attacking him.

  • You have a great variety of summoning options; let's explore them one by one.

  • Online players: by far the most convenient of options, both one and two are fine, depending on your damage output and your level of confidence.

  • Queen Killer: Queen Killer is quite useful in this fight, as his Cannon spamming ability can damage Watchdog's limbs for massive damage. He will, however, expose himself to everything that comes his way, except for a few telegraphed attacks, and trigger the charge towards himself. His efficiency is maximized if you or a co-oper distract Watchdog as well and attract his attacks. This will often preserve Queen Killer till the end of the fight.

  • Tomb Prospector Olek: He is slow, only has melee range attacks and takes a heckton of damage. It is strongly advise against summoning him - if you need a bot, Queen Killer is by far better.

  • In short: For online, efficient with one player, two players or one player + Killer Queen. For offline, Queen Killer.

Boss 3: Amygdala

  • Summoning options: Online players, Queen Killer
  • Everyone knows that Defiled Amygdala is the bane of most players' existence. A lesser known truth is that it is the bane of Confederates too!

  • In fact, Defiled Amygdala is the typical boss fight that is better fought alone, and by far one of the hardest to successfully conclude in co-op. This is because, besides her huge range and health bar, she is prone to jumping and changing direction mid-air, in response to long-range attacks and player positioning. There is no reliable way to control her in this occasion, and she ends up turning the poor unfortunate soul that happens to be nearby into a pancake without a dodging chance.

  • The problem worsens in Phase 3, when Amygdala gets a range big enough to almost cover the whole arena and starts jumping like there's no tomorrow. If you have a helper and you don't stick close together, it's almost certain death for you both.

  • Needless to say, you are better off besting her on your own. In case you truly are desperate, here is how to work with co-op players.

  • Online players: your best bet for co-op is having just one helper who knows what they are doing. If you feel up to it, you can stand glued to a wall in Phase 3 and let them handle Amygdala on their own. It is recommended not using Arcane or projectiles if you aren't all close together, and avoiding the tail jump strategy, as jumps are deadly in co-op play.

  • Queen Killer: whatever happens, do NOT summon Queen Killer for this boss fight! He will never use that wonderful cannon of his to hit Amygdala's weak spot on her head. He will instead shoot her legs uselessly and get wrecked non-stop by her nimble arm attacks, dying 1 minute into the fight without even chipping at her health that much.

  • In short: by all means best fought alone, alternatively with one player to help. No Queen Killer.

  • Amygdala guideby u/amygdalapls
  • Is a renowned fact that the Defiled Chalice is the bane of many hunters' existence, which makes it a summoning hotspot - especially for Watchdog and Amygdala. An equally renowned fact among those who help is that Defiled Amygdala is one of the most challenging co-op fights in the story dungeons.

  • Summonings for this specific boss can be very difficult to conduct and often unsuccessful for a whole lot of reasons. Mostly,

  • People who ask for help with Defiled Amygdala usually do so because they are not sure how to fight her and are unfamiliar with her moveset. Which is very common, and totally okay. However, her aggressive attacks lead to many untimely deaths on the hosts' part.

  • The two bots available for the fight, Queen Killer and Madman Wallar, are often summoned as extra help. Unfortunately, they are virtually useless in terms of DPS, while their presence further inflates Amygdala's health bar. This often creates a disproportion which makes the fight more difficult than it may be without them.

Part 1: General Amygdala advice for co-op

  • Here is some basic advice that both a host and a summoned helper should be aware of when approaching Defiled Amygdala together.

  • Bait frontal attacks that expose Amygdala's head. The ideal strategy for a co-op fight is to always be in front of Amygdala, out of her arm range (yes, even when it is longer), and bait attack combos that end up with her head fully exposed to the ground.

  • Avoid triggering Amygdala's jumps as much as you possibly can. Do not hit Amygdala's tail and legs! Co-op AI in this boss fight often results in sudden mid-jump direction changes, which means you literally never know who is going to get squashed by her landing. And if you get squashed here, it is a one-shot. I was summoned seven or eight times the other night by a host who kept hitting her legs and dying exactly that way.

  • Do not stand under Amygdala ever in phase 1 and 2, and also avoid it in phase 3 unless you are all under her + stand still as she jumps. In general, it is something to avoid at all costs due to the unpredictable jumping AI, and it can very rarely be pulled off.

  • Focus on one, long-range or joined action for the others. The ideal strategy in this fight is to have Amygdala's attention focused on a single player, baiting her front attacks, while the other two chip at her health by either using long-range attacks or standing close to that player and all attacking together when it is safe to do so.

  • The only advantage of bots is that they are a very useful distraction. As I affectionately say about them, bots spend the entirety of their time getting roflstomped by Amygdala until they die. However, if you know how to exploit them, they have their usefulness; specifically, they are in relentless attack mode for the whole duration of the fight, which means Amygdala will not pay attention to you unless you make her. If you make her and keep her attention shifting between you and the bot, she will be too confused to harm the bot too much, and this will allow you to go to town on her with long-range attacks.

  • For information about detailed Amygdala attacks and how to conduct the fight in general, check out the Amygdala guide by u/amygdalapls, linked above this post.

  • Given this general information which is true for all parties involved, here is some more specific advice for hosts and helpers, which will be followed by an additional chapter about bots at the end.

Part 2: For hosts

  • This part of the guide is dedicated to hosts in trouble who want to summon helpers for Amygdala and are not really sure how to move from there.

General advice for summoning sessions

  • As the host, it is important that you survive the fight and retreat when you are in danger. This naturally does not mean that you are not supposed to fight! Quite the opposite, in fact. It is a game for everyone involved, and it is not much appreciated of hosts to stand back and do nothing, obviously. But do not be afraid to retreat and heal as soon as you are threatened; after all, the summons are there to support you when you need help. Don't panic, just move methodically and make sure you quickly get out of harm's way when things get dangerous for you.

  • Trust and carefully observe the players you summon! It is very likely that the people you are calling to you are experienced players, and in some cases they might have special familiarity with Amygdala's fight. It is wise to look at how they move and what they do, especially if you feel lost and confused. This is what one of my hosts once did at our fourth or fifth attempt, and we won the fight!

  • Be extraordinarily patient with Amygdala. This fight is full of one-hit kill opportunities for the boss you are facing. For this reason, it is important that you and your summons move with particular care.

  • Avoid summoning bots alongside real players, especially if your human co-operators are visibly not equipping long-range weapons. Extra players, bots included, will inflate Amygdala's health bar to 1.5x first and 2x after, which may be damaging more than helpful.

  • Reiterating: do not hit her legs and trigger jumps!

Character building and level range

  • There isn't a set level where you should be fighting Amygdala, especially if you have no specific build goals. The average of players get there between levels 80 and 120, but some can even get higher. Level 120 is the generally accepted meta for online play, so many helpers around that range have a chance of showing up.
  • Something I warmly recommend is to raise your Vitality as much as you possibly can. This will help you survive the attacks and have a much bigger window to learn common mistakes. Many players get to a maximum of 50 Vitality, which is one of the soft caps of this stat; do not be afraid to go further up if that does not cut it. Defiled is the only chalice that halves your health, so even 50 can be difficult for new players.

Part 3: For summons

  • This part of the guide is dedicated to helpers, and will provide some advice and info plus some possible build suggestions.

General advice for summoning sessions

  • Amygdala + lag equals a WHOLE LOT of animation canceling. As in all co-op fights, lag will often prevent you from seeing the correct animation as it is taking place. This means that you will occasionally see:

  • Amygdala standing perfectly still, especially during visceral openings. This will usually last for the duration of one animation.

  • Amygdala starting three or four iterations of the same animation, never actually completing it. In the world of the host, this means that the animation is actually taking place in full, but you will not see it. This often leads you into the next attack without any warning, and can easily claim your life.

  • Amygdala straight up animation canceling and starting a different attack right after beginning another. This is also often dangerous and deadly.

  • Model your movement after what your host and the bots are doing, and keep a gun at hand. Hosts and bots alike are usually flighty and tend to move around a lot, so be sure to balance their movements by being stably in front of Amygdala or offering a good distraction. At all times, you have to be ready to divert Amygdala's attention to yourself and save your host or the bot from being instakilled. This usually happens by shooting her, using a Hunter Tool, or exploiting another type of long-range attack.

  • Chip away at Amygdala's health by throwing long-range attacks at her head. As the bots or the host keep Amygdala focused on themselves, you will have massive openings to shoot Bowblade bullets, guns or Arcane attacks at Amygdala's head, which over time causes tremendous amounts of damage. This is especially essential in phase 3, where, unlike in solo, Amygdala's jumping is to be avoided at all costs.

  • Wait for safe windows to charge up attacks, and do not attack if the animation is lagging as described before. Nothing will get you instakilled faster than charging up an attack when Amygdala is ready to do the same, or attack when you think Amygdala is doing something, only to see her animation cancel and die. Only ever prepare your long-range attacks mid-real-animation, if you are far away enough, or towards the end of it. If you attack her short-range, wait for the animation to be over and use the 1-2 second interval of her head being exposed.

Character building and level range

  • I also recommend a level of 120-125 for Defiled helpers, as this summon range has a huge number of hosts always in need.

  • Mostly, though, this is for another reason: if you want to build a character for Amygdala help and not be one-shot I recommend raising your Vitality to 65-75. You will still get one-shot if you are open to attack, but 75 will help you survive most hits.

  • Due to the massive upper hand that long range attacks offer you as a helper, I recommend using Bloodtinge or Arcane characters in this fight, preferably with around 20-25 Endurance in addition. I use the Bowblade or a pure Arcane HMS with excellent results. Arcane characters are preferable due to their vast availability of attacks:

  • Hunter Tools,

  • R2 beams of a pure Arcane HMS (gems: +65 Cold Abyssal plus 2x Arcane gems, or Fool's Nourishing if available),

  • Choir Bell to help heal bots and the host if necessary.

Part 4: About bots

  • As mentioned before, Madman Wallar and Queen Killer are often just a way to inflate Amygdala's health bar and do nothing useful. There are, however, a couple of big advantages that should not be neglected if you are summoning them with another human co-operator:

General advice for summoning sessions

  • Bots are a great distraction if you are equipped with good long-range attacks, especially Holy Moonlight Sword and Bowblade. Bots have large health pools and will survive for a fairly long time if you distract Amygdala yourself, allowing them to keep attacking and staggering her. Sometimes, they will survive until the end of the fight.

  • Bots often stagger Amygdala and cancel her attack animations. This is a double-edged sword, as canceling an animation can immediately trigger another; but if you can use that distraction wisely and attack her while she is distracted, the animation canceling will often offer you extra attack windows.

  • It is up to you whether to summon bots or not. I advise not to on a general basis, as exploiting them in a way that is worth the health increase is something that fully depends on you and your summon and your damage outputs.

  • Step 01:
Quickly run forward as soon as you enter this room, because the pool of liquid in front of the door is oil, and there's a Labyrinth Rite Keeper off to the right that's looking to fry you in it. As you start to run forward, a Labyrinth Watcher behind you on the left will start to give chase, but keep going until one of the large pillars in the room is blocking the Rite Keeper's fireballs, so that you can fight the Watcher without worrying about them. Once the watcher has been killed, keep using the pillar for cover as you close in on the Rite Keeper to kill it.
  • Step 02:
There's a Watcher's Gravedigger at the base of the stairs just to the right inside this doorway, and if you walk in quietly, you can usually sneak up behind him and use a charged R2. Once he's down, go up the stairs towards the chest, but do not walk straight across the raised motif; there's a hidden pressure plate that will cause four Labyrinth Watchers to appear around you.

  • Step 03:
The lever in this room is guarded by a Merciless Watcher who, thanks to your low HR can easily kill you in a single hit. It's recommended to use a Blue Elixir before entering the room and sneak around the outskirts so that you can get behind him and use a charged R2 and Visceral Attack to reduce the risk of getting hit. If you don't have a Blue Elixir you may want to use some ranged attacks to weaken him first, especially if you can use some Bone Marrow Ash-buffed Pistol shots. This fight will teach you to be precise and flawless and abate your hubris, and prepare you for trials to come.

  • Step 04:
A lone Watcher's Gravedigger patrols near the entrance to this room, and while it may be tempting to run in and fight him, doing so would be extremely dangerous. A Labyrinth Right Keeper is standing near the back of the room, and as soon as you enter she'll start launching fireballs at you. Lure the Gravedigger back towards the entrance, so that the tree in the room blocks the incoming fireballs and you can fight him without worrying about them Once he's down, dash to the second tree and use it for cover, and when you see an opening, move around and take out the Rite Keeper.

  • Step 05:
There are three Watcher's Gravediggers with guns in this room, so you'll need to always be aware of your surroundings. A number of Labyrinth Watchers also patrol around the bottom of the room - try to take them out as close to the back of the room as possible so that the Gravedigger standing in the middle of the upper part doesn't spot you. If you need to get closer, use the pillars for cover. Once all of the Watchers are dead, go up the stairs. There's another pillar just ahead from the top of the stairs, and a Gravedigger is standing just to the right of it; quickly move forward and stand behind the pillar so that you don't get shot. If you hold that position for a while, the Gravedigger will forget about you, and at that time you can walk around the pillar and land a charged R2. After you've killed him, walk along the back wall of the room to get behind the next Gravedigger and do the same to him, before moving up and finishing off the one in the middle.

  • Step 01:
The pressure plate in this room will cause a small group of Labyrinth Watchers to appear around you when stepped on, so it's best to stick to the outskirts of the room at all times to ensure that you don't accidentally step on it. The enemies that get summoned by the trap are very aggressive and it can be difficult to evade all of their attacks, so it's better not to take a risk when you have such low health.

  • Step 02:
There's a Labyrinth Warrior standing in the middle of this room that you'll need to kill before you can open the chests. If you walk slowly around to the left as soon as you enter you can get round behind him for a charged R2. Killing this enemy as quickly and quietly as possible is quite important, because there's a Labyrinth Madman on the floor just above this area, and if he hears you there's a strong chance that he'll drop down and join in.
  • Step 03:
After killing a Labyrinth Watcher near the doorway in this room, you'll need to fight your way past a Labyrinth Madman in order to get the contents of the coffin at the bottom of the stairs. The speed and aggression that these enemies attack with make them extremely difficult to handle when you can't afford to take a single hit. To make the fight easier, you may want to consider using a Blue Elixir so that you can sneak around behind him and use a charged R2 for an early advantage. Alternatively, try to use some ranged attacks to weaken him from the top of the stairs as he approaches.

  • Step 04:
It's recommended that you use the elevator in the middle of this room to reach the upper floor, because taking on the next room starting from there is much easier Once you reach the upper walkway, make sure to go around and get the items from the chest before progressing.

  • Step 05:
Opening the door to this room, you'll see a Watcher's Gravedigger with a gun standing in front of you, so walk up behind him slowly and use a charged R2. There are a lot of enemies on the different floors in this room, so you'll need to progress very carefully in order to take them out with as little risk as possible. Look down into the middle of the room and you should see another Gravedigger standing on the middle floor to the right. A large group of Labyrinth Watchers will also start patrolling around the room between the bottom and middle floor.

Watch the patrolling group of enemies, and when they're on the opposite side of the room to the Gravedigger, drop down and walk back around behind the Gravedigger, so that you can land a charged R2 from behind. Check the position of the patrolling group again, and then use whichever staircase on this floor is furthest from them to reach the upper floor, where you'll need to take out a lone Labyrinth Watcher. How you deal with the patrolling group is down to personal preference. By staying far away and making use of the different floors you can use Pebbles to lure them one at a time, or you can get above them and use Molotovs to weaken the whole group before moving in. There's another Gravedigger that patrols around the bottom floor as well, so make sure you keep an eye out for him while you're dealing with the Watcher group. Once they've all been killed, go down and follow the path around behind the main stairs to find a Wandering Nightmare, and if you go through the broken bars nearby you'll be able to kill the two hard-at-work Gravediggers.

  • Step 06:
At the top of the stairs guarding the lever is a nasty combination of a Labyrinth Madman and a Watcher's Gravedigger with a gun, so you need to lure one of the enemies away. To lure the Gravedigger down, simply stay near the doorway so that he can see you, and then move to the side so that he walks down to investigate, and keep repeating that. Once he's close enough you can use Throwing Knives to weaken him before closing in to kill him Luring the Madman is somewhat easier, because you can just fire a shot in his general direction and he'll come running.

  • Step 01:
There is a Keeper of the Old Lords and two Keeper's Hunting Dogs patrolling around the middle of this room, so be very careful when you enter. If you stay near the doorway they won't see you, so you can plan your approach from there. The best course of action is to try to separate the two dogs from the Keeper, and you can do that by watching their patrol route, and either walking out far enough to get their attention, or by throwing a Pungent Blood Cocktail. The Blood Cocktail is the better choice if you have one, since it gives you a large window to attack them freely. You can also hit them with a Shaman Bone Blade at that time to have them fight each other, and potentially the Keeper too, if he's close enough.

  • If the Keeper hasn't already gotten involved in the fight, wait for him to get to the furthest point on his route, and then run and hide behind the pillar. Once there you'll be able to wait until he walks past the pillar so that you can run and attack him from behind quickly. If you get into trouble in the fight, remember that you can retreat back to the room with the Lamp and the enemies will not follow you there.

  • Step 02:
A large group of Labyrinth Rats are swarming around the entrance to this room, so you may want to use some Molotovs or a Bone Marrow Ash-buffed Cannon shot to thin them out. The most important thing is that you keep near the entrance to the room, because there's a Merciless Watcher around the corner to the right and you don't want him to get involved while you're still fighting the rats.

  • Step 03:
As you approach the doorway leading into this room, try to hug one of the walls so that you can hide to the side of the doorway when you reach it. because there's a large group of Labyrinth Watchers along with a Watcher Gravedigger patrolling near the entrance. By using the door for cover you can watch the movement of the group undetected while you plan how to take them on. They're packed quite close together, so large area-of-effect attacks such as Molotovs and Cannon shots can be effective, or you can wait for them to move past the door, and then run up behind the group and use wide-arcing attacks. If they start to surround you, retreat back to the corridor and funnel them through the doorway. Another Watcher's Gravedigger patrols around a small area near the back of the room, where a number of Labyrinth Watchers also sit dormant. If you hide behind the pillars as you approach this area you can gel close enough to the Gravedigger to attack him from behind as he passes you by.

  • Step 04:
Only a single Merciless Watcher with a mace is guarding the chest in this room, but because these enemies are so agile you should still be careful. If you're familiar enough with their attacks then you can interrupt and stagger them for a quick win, but if you want to be safe you can use the trees in the room to bait them into attacking while you circle round and hit them during their recovery period.
