In-Game Description

Throwing knife with a finely serrated blade.

One of the old hunter Henryk's favorite weapons.

Does not cause a great deal of damage to beasts, but with
deft use, can distract attackers and keep them at bay.
Note 1: The same in-game description in US & UK versions. ✓
Note 2: Original Japanese text on Original Japanese Item Index page. ✓

Effects

  • When you are looked-on, Throwing Knives are flung toward the target; when you aren't locked on, you can aim them manually. Your character's facing determines the direction and the camera position controls the height. You can also use the Monocular if you want to aim with greater precision, and can have up to 20 in your inventory at once.
  • Throwing Knives deal physical damage that scales with your strength and skill; they can deal counter-hit damage, and it's actually pretty easy to do thanks to their range. Some enemies take additional damage if you hit a specific weak point, like the heads of the Church Giants. Be careful, though; if you are too far away, the damage drops off.
  • Throwing Knives are useful in a variety of situations. You can use them to get one enemy's attention without alerting other nearby foes; this is great if you want to take it slow and fight one-on-one battles. Against powerful enemies that don't flinch easily. Throwing Knives can be used to setup a combo; they deal 20 Armor Damage per hit, so you can hit with a couple of knives before engaging to make sure the enemy will flinch or stumble. They also make a nice ranged weapon when you want to save your bullets. If you are faced with a swarm of weak enemies, you can use Throwing Knives to keep them at bay.

Scaling

  • Scaling determines how much additional damage a tool deals. The tool stat bonus, indicated by a letter grade of S / A / B / C / D / E, and the character's stat's current level each correspond to a percentage value. These are multiplied together and against the tool base damage to determine the bonus damage received. Throwing Knife has letter grade of D for Strength and A for Skill. In the table below you will find exact (datamined) AR values for featured character stats.
Strength Skill Bloodtinge Arcane AR (phys.) --
-- -- -- -- 100 --
10 10 -- -- 107.5 --
25 25 -- -- 175 --
25 50 -- -- 210 --
