Snake Ball ❘ 蛇玉

Regular Enemy

Description

  • Clumps of intertwined snakes found throughout the Forbidden Woods, and in some Chalice Dungeons. Extremely slow-moving enemies with relatively low health, Snake Balls present little danger when alone, but are usually positioned to ambush you in groups from behind trees, boulders and other objects. Their attacks are rapid, hit multiple times and cause slow poison buildup, making them a real threat if they manage to surround you. They have very short reach, however, and their limited ability to pursue you makes it easy to get away if you need to retreat. Beware that they often appear alongside more agile enemies, such as Huntsmen and Snake Parasites, so examine the surrounding area carefully before you approach them.

Strategy

  • Jump attacks or far-reaching R2s from transformed weapons such as the Hunter Axe or Rifle Spear will hit them from outside their attack range, allowing you to defeat them at no risk to yourself with proper timing. Though they have no real weakness to elemental attacks, their blunt defense is particularly low, so weapons such as Tonitrus or the Kirkhammer can kill them in one or two hits. Even when dealing with a group of these enemies, it's still possible to pick them off one at a time due to their incredibly slow movement speed - just pay attention to your surroundings and make sure there aren't any other enemies behind you. If there are faster enemies such as Snake Parasites or Large Huntsmen nearby, lure those away and deal with them first, then mop up any remaining Snake Balls.

Notes

  • Despite Snake Ball having 999 Slow Poison resistance it is still vulnerable to such status.
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Has poison version
  • Preset Chalice Dungeons: Hintertomb
  • In Root Chalice Dungeons you can very rarely find Snake Ball summons which will come out of the ground to ambush you, currently this has been discovered in Lower Loran as seen in the following videos: The Snake Summoning & Snakeballs Spawn. Another ambush was found on FR Ailing Loran L3, n5n9k6pi, in side area before layer lamp.
  • In Lower Hintertomb L4 9btu4upp, Snake Ball can summon Large Snake Ball and another Snake Ball. [gif 01, gif 02]

Snake Ball
Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.

Blood Stones: Drop Pools

  • For the most part, items dropped by enemies are decided simply by a random percent chance from that enemy's own list of potential items. When an enemy appears in a dungeon, it sometimes has one or more of its drops determined by the dungeon's Depth, in order to give better rewards for more challenging dungeons. Such items are selected from a pool of similar items, and these pools are shown here. The upshot of this is that an enemy might drop a Blood Stone Shard in the Depth 1 Pthumerian Root Labyrinth, but would drop a Blood Stone Chunk instead in a Depth 5 Pthumeru Ihyll dungeon.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
