Retired Hunter Djura ❘ 古狩人デュラ

NPC

Description

In Yharnam, an old ruin lies in wait,a mark left behind by the rampant "beast" disease. Now called the Old Yharnam,it is a place where no one of difference remains, but in that very place runs a story of an old hunter. He who supposedly disappeared into the Old Yharnam, did not return from it,but is believed to be still alive. With high skill, and his unwavering way of life, the stories might just be a baseless rumor left behind by his strong impression.
  • Djura is a retired hunter holed up in a tower in Old Yharnam. Djura is known through his contact with the Powder Kegs, the heretics of the workshop. He is notable for having been both uncommonly kind and dreadfully foolish during his active days, a fact still reflected in his devotion to protecting the once-human beasts of the ruined district. When you first enter the area he will warn you away and will fire upon you with an emplaced gatling gun; you may choose to scale the tower and confront him or leave him alone and proceed on to the boss. If you leave Djura alone and return to Old Yharnam through Yahar'gul or Church of the Good Chalice lamp after encountering or defeating Darkbeast Paarl, you can sneak up to the tower using the ladder shortcut and climb to the top without Djura or his friend spotting you. If you approach Djura in this manner he will not be hostile and will readily explain his circumstances to you, at which point you'll have to decide whether he is friend or foe; if you comply with his wishes and promise to leave the beasts of Old Yharnam alone, you'll earn his friendship and the rewards from his quest. Bear in mind that although you'll still get the badge from defeating him in combat, you can only obtain the gesture by befriending him.

Location

  • Old Yharnam at the top of clocktower with mounted railgun.

Stats & Equipment

  • Tables below consist of datamined stats and equipment, this specific information is for NPCs, hunters or less, that uses a player-like human model and skeleton, practically every NPC that can be equipped with player's gears. Some characters are equipped with items that they aren't programmed to use by the AI, such items are highlighted. All characters have infinite Quicksilver Bullets and 99 copies of any item they hold (including Blood Vials) and the only thing that prevents from infinitely consuming them is written in their AI script. For information about all characters visit Datamined NPCs Stats & Equipment wiki page.

Progression

1.
Old Yharnam Djura's Tower [Evening / Night / Blood Moon]
When you first enter Old Yharnam, he will threaten you from afar and will open fire from his tower with an emplaced gatling gun if you proceed into the area.
2.
Old Yharnam Djura's Tower [Evening / Night / Blood Moon]
If you head directly to the tower and kill him, he'll drop his badge and his quest will end.
3.
Old Yharnam Djura's Tower [Evening / Night / Blood Moon]
If you leave him alone and continue on to defeat the Blood-starved Beast, you can come back later and befriend him.
4.
Old Yharnam Djura's Tower [Evening / Night / Blood Moon]
Leave him alone during your first trip to Old Yharnam and encounter (or defeat) Darkbeast Paarl first, then enter the area through Church of the Good Chalice or Graveyard of the Darkbeast lamps and climb the tower without Djura detecting you until you reach the top. He will dismount the gatling gun and approach, but will not be hostile and can be engaged in conversation.
5.
Old Yharnam Djura's Tower [Evening / Night / Blood Moon]
Speaking to him and selecting, "Spare the beasts of Old Yharnam" will earn his respect, at which point he will hand you the quest rewards and will remain friendly towards you.
6.
Old Yharnam Djura's Tower [Evening / Night / Blood Moon]
If at any point after earning his trust you attack any of the enemies in Old Yharnam, he will immediately turn hostile again with no chance of reconciliation.

Strategy

  • If you decide that Djura is your enemy, you're in for a heated battle in a small and dangerous arena. He uses a Hunter Blunderbuss and the Stake Driver, an unusual weapon with short reach but very high attack speed, and will throw Molotovs at you as well. In addition to his swift attacks and the wide spread from his scattergun, Djura will also attempt to interrupt your swings and will sometimes follow through with a visceral attack if he succeeds; he's an aggressive opponent and will use the limited space atop the tower to his full advantage, pressuring you into backing toward the edges at every opportunity. By interrupting one of his attacks with his back to the edge, however, you can turn Djura's advantage against him and throw him from the tower with a visceral attack, killing him in the process.
  • Easy Strategy: As you are climbing on top of the ladder, lock on Djura and immediately shoot him several times until he falls off the tower (works with Hunter Pistol and Hunter Blunderbuss alike). Reload and his drop will be right next to the gatling gun. This strategy can be done with one shoot from the Cannon as well.

Drops

  • Powder Keg Hunter Badge x1 [100%]; Beware! If Djura falls of the tower and his drop is unreachable, reload the game and it will respawn to his starting location right next to the gatling gun.
  • + Blood Dreg x1 [100%] when Corruption is equipped

Notes

  • Befriend Djura: In order to make Djura non-hostile and unlock new lines of dialogue and "Brush off" gesture, you have to encounter Darkbeast Paarl (gain 1 Insight). After that its required that you approach Djura from the back by either spawning at the Church of the Good Chalice or Graveyard of the Darkbeast lamp.
  • In order to befriend Djura and keep Blood-starved Beast alive you will need to return to Yahar'gul during the blood moon and defeat Darkbeast Paarl to enter the Old Yharnam from his lamp.
  • Djura can be "befriended" even after initial "aggro" when entering Old Yharnam.
  • If you want to get Djura's armor set, there is no other way but to kill him in order it to appear on Insight Bath Messengers selling list.
  • Rare ending part of the Djura's dialogue when you die: Well, next time you dream, give some thought...to the hunt, and its purpose..., this is possible only on version 1.0 [video]

left stick
Enter Old Yharnam
You there, hunter. Didn't you see the warning? Turn back at once. Old Yharnam, burned and abandoned by men, is now home only to beasts. They are of no harm to those above. Turn back... ...or the hunter will face the hunt...
left stick
Go near Djura's Tower
...You are a skilled hunter. Adept, merciless, half-cut with blood. As the best hunters are. Which is why I must stop you.
x button
On top of Djura's Tower (friendly)
Well, well... How did you get in here? Ah it's no matter. What brings you to Old Yharnam? I've no interest in matters further up, but you must not disturb this place. The beasts do not venture above, and mean no harm to anyone. If you still insist on hunting them, then I will hunt you first. You understand me?
x button
Select "hunt the beasts"
Of course, I thought as much. You are a true hunter. Which is why I must stop you!
x button
Select "spare the beasts"
Yes, very good. I no longer dream, but I was once a hunter, too. There's nothing more horrific than a hunt. In case you've failed to realize... The things you hunt, they're not beasts. They're people. One day, you will see... Hmm, it's time you got going... But first, a farewell gift. I have no use for it anyway.
x button
Talk again
What is it? Surely I need not repeat myself. Go, I say. You have the whole night to dream. Make the best of it.
r1 button
Attack Djura while friendly
Is it the blood, or are you just raving mad? When the frail of heart join the fray... the hunter becomes the hunted! Then come as often as you like, and I will show you another death. But remember one thing; you’re not hunting beasts…
r1 button
Player attacks beasts near the tower after choosing "spare the beasts" (female)
Heheh, you devious rat! The makings of a true hunter, this lass! Very well. Then there's no need to hold back! The beasts will feast tonight!
r1 button
Player attacks beasts near the tower after choosing "spare the beasts" (male)
Heheh, you devious rat! The makings of a true hunter, this fellow!
r1 button
When player dies
I should think you still have dreams?
Well, next time you dream, give some thought...to the hunt, (and its purpose...)
r1 button
When player dies after betraying Djura
You still dream, I should think? Then come as often as you like, and I will show you another death.
r1 button
Upon death (friendly)
It’s you… You’re the beast. Just think about what you’re doing. It’s utter madness…
r1 button
Upon death (hostile)
But remember one thing. You're not hunting beasts.
