Gilbert, Critically Ill Man ❘ 重病人[ギルバート]

NPC

Description

Gilbert is a foreigner to Yharnam afflicted with the Scourge who traveled to the city in search of a cure.
  • This being the case, he sympathizes with your situation from the start and does his best to help you in spite of his worsening condition; by the time you first meet him he's already incapacitated with no hope of survival, and can only provide you with information. However, if you visit him regularly he'll also entrust you with his Flamesprayer, a powerful weapon that can prove extremely useful in a wide variety of situations. Sadly, as Gilbert himself resignedly admits, there is no way to save him; when you return to his house during the Blood Moon you'll find him transformed into a beast, leaving you with only the unenviable task of ending his suffering.

Location

  • Gilbert can be found inside a house in Central Yharnam, right next Central Yharnam Lamp, where the hunter can speak to him through a window, warning him of the dangers of the city. When you see a lit window like this, that means there's someone inside. Many of Yharnam's residents have locked themselves inside their homes for fear of the beasts. Keep your eyes peeled for other people hiding like this. Some may even have useful information to aid in your quest.

Progression

1.
Central Yharnam Gilbert's House [Day]
Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue.
2.
Central Yharnam Gilbert's House [Day]
Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue. (When the Cleric Beast was defeated)
3.
Central Yharnam Gilbert's House [Evening]
Speak to him after entering the Oedon Chapel for the first time, exhaust his dialogue and get reward.
Beware! If you don't speak with Gilbert before the Nighttime is triggered you will not get the Flamesprayer.
4.
Central Yharnam Gilbert's House [Night]
Speak to him and exhaust his dialogue, then reload the area and speak to him again.
5.
Central Yharnam Gilbert's House [Blood Moon]
You'll find Gilbert transformed into the beast and leaving you no option but to kill him.

Drops

  • Clawmark Caryll Rune [100%], at the end of his quest

Notes

  • Beware, if you hit the wall close to his window multiple times it will trigger Gilbert's unique dialogue and he will no longer interact with you.
  • He will not drop Blood Dreg when Corruption Oath Caryll rune is equipped.
  • Beast which Gilbert transformed into is still considered as NPC for cooperators and cannot be damaged by them. However other enemies can damage him even though they are not hostile to each other. [image]
  • Also beast which Gilbert transformed into is completely invisible to the adversaries. [video]

First encounter
Oh, you must be a hunter. And not from around here, either. I’m Gilbert, a fellow outsider. You must’ve had a fine time with it. Yharnam has… a special way of treating guests. I don’t think I could stand if I wanted to. But I’m willing to help, if there’s anything that can be done. (coughs) This town is cursed. Whatever your reasons might be you should plan a swift exit. Whatever can be gained from this place, it will do more harm than good.

Paleblood, you say? Hmm… Never heard of it. But if it’s blood you’re interested in, you should try the Healing Church. The Church controls all knowledge on blood ministrations, and all varieties of blood. Across the valley to the East of Yharnam lies the town of the Healing Church, known as the Cathedral Ward. And deep within the Cathedral Ward is the old Grand Cathedral. The birthplace of the Healing Church’s special blood, or so they say.

Yhanamites don’t share much with outsiders. Normally, they wouldn’t let you near the place, but… the hunt is on tonight. This might be your chance… Across the valley to the east of Yharnam, you’ll find the Cathedral Ward. Deep within lies the old main cathedral, said to be the source of blood. I haven’t heard of Paleblood, but that’s your best bet if it’s anything to do with unique types of blood.

Talk again when Cleric Beast is defeated
(coughs) Yes, I see… But the great bridge is the only way to the Cathedral Ward and during the hunt, the bridge is closed. Hmm… You could try the aqueduct? There’s a rather, how shall I put it, colourful area south of the great bridge. From there, an aqueduct leads to the Cathedral Ward. Not a place you’d normally go visit, but… I don’t imagine you have much of a choice, do you?

(coughs) An aqueduct leads from the town, south of the main bridge to the Cathedral Ward. Not a place you’d normally choose to visit, but… Not much of a choice with the bridge closed.

Talk again after you entered Oedon Chapel
(heavy coughing) Ahh, you needn’t concern yourself with me. I’m afraid I’m of little help now. But before I… Take this… I made no use of it, but perhaps you… (coughing) What inflicted me was incurable, but this town gave me hope… Their strange blood bought me time. I was most fortunate. Unharmed by the plague of beasts, I can even die human.

Ahh, don’t you worry about me… (coughing) Have I heard of Byrgenwerth? Afraid I can’t say that I have. The locals aren’t apt to share any local history. I’m afraid I may not be of help for much longer…

Hmm… I know nothing of a Byrgenwerth.. And I’m afraid I may not be of help for much longer….

(coughs, sleeps, coughs) Why… me… why… Dear gods, what have I done? Save me, please… Save me… (heavy coughing)

Mm? Hm? Is something wrong? Stop this nonsense at once. So, you’ve gone over the edge. A terrible pity. Just another Yharno now. (coughing)
