Location

Description

  • The Lecture Hall of Byrgenwerth has been somehow warped and transported into the Dreamlands. The Lecture Hall is connected to the Nightmare, which consists of both the Nightmare of Mensis and the Nightmare Frontier, and judging from the fact that a Church Giant is found in the upper levels it’s possible that the School of Mensis moved into the Nightmare Lecture Hall at some point in time. Notice that when the Hunter opens certain doors in The Lecture Hall and transports to The Nightmare, the same warping effects and particles occur as when the Hunter uses a lamp.
  • The Dreamlands are a location that exists parallel to our own world. They have a landscape just like we do, only they play by slightly different rules. Teleportation is just another method of transportation in the Dreamlands. The Dreamlands exist directly parallel to our own Waking World. While the Waking World is the domain of humanity, the Dreamlands are the lands of the Great Ones. These two worlds exist like a reflection of one another. [The Paleblood Hunt by Redgrave]

General Notes

  • There are no Old Hunter Summons in this area.
  • Lecture Hall Skip (2F): The Lecture Hall Skip is a skip in Bloodborne that allows the player to bypass the second floor of the Lecture Hall in order to reach the Nightmare Frontier (Amygdala) faster. The skip involves using the geography of a wall pillar and the baseboards of the flooring to boost your jump to clear a balcony railing. The skip is located in the room immediately left of the Lantern on the second floor. The player will open a door and proceed to the corner of the room in which they are able to do the skip. Lecture Building 1F

  • Main Hallway:
The Lecture Building Lamp is right in front of you when arrive in this area, so light it straight away before proceeding through the nearby door. There are no enemies in the Main Hallway, so if you're in a rush and simply want to get through the area without exploring, you can run straight along it and open the door at the other end to be transported to Nightmare Frontier.

  • Patches' Lab:
Directly across from the room that you start in there is a locked one-way door with a broken window, through which you can see the face of a very mysterious creature If you approach the door you'll be able to talk to it, and while most of what it says may initially appear to be riddles filled with obscurities, there are some hidden truths and potential clues to be found in its words.

  • Lecture Theater 1:
If you enter the door slightly further along the hallway from Patches' Lab you'll find yourself in another lab, from which you can enter one of the large Lecture Theaters. Quickly move to the side of the door-way once you pass through it, because a Student will drop from the ceiling in an attempt to ambush you; while it recovers from the fall, move around behind it and kill it before it can retaliate The body of a former student can be found slumped in a chair near the middle of the room, and on it you can find the Lecture Theater Key that will let you open the door to the other Lecture Theater on this floor Another body is located near the end of the middle row of seats, and on this one you'll find the Student Attire.

  • Lecture Theater 2:
A very large group of Students will begin to close in on you as soon as you enter this room, so you'll need to quickly decide how you want to handle them. If you want to use items with large areas of effect to try and take out multiple enemies at once, such as Molotovs, then you're better off staying in the room and trying to group up as many as possible before using one. If you want to use conventional weapons, however, then it's best to retreat back through the doorway and fight them from there This way it'll be easier to control their numbers, and you can use the pillars just outside the door for some extra cover. There are no items inside the room itself, so once all of the enemies have been killed, exit through the other door and open the chest in the room beyond it to receive the Augur of Ebrietas.

  • Waiting Room:
After entering this room, follow the path around counter clockwise until you see two items on the floor. Instead of running ahead towards them, look up to the ceiling, where you'll see a Student waiting to drop down and ambush you. Now that you've discovered its hiding place you can use range attacks from a safe distance to knock it down and then close in to finish it off quickly, before grabbing the items.

  • Storage Room:
The final room to explore on this floor has no enemies in it and only a single chest, the content of which is some Red Jelly This is an item required in some Chalice Dungeon crafting rituals, and will come in useful when you want to progress through even deeper dungeons to find better Blood Gems.

Lecture Building 2F

  • Main Hallway:
The 2nd floor Lecture Building Lamp is in the same room that you start in - be sure to light it before venturing past the door. As with the 1st floor, if you simply want to get through the area, you can run straight along the Main Hallway and open the door at the opposite end. Doing so will transport you to the Nightmare of Mensis, but this time you'll need to fight your way past some Scholars along the way. There are also Scholars on the opposite side of the floor, and they'll do their best to hit you with projectile attacks as you enter their range, so try to use the pillars for cover if you stop to fight.

  • 2F Waiting Room:
You can freely enter this room and pick up the item at the back, but you need to be careful when making your exit, because a Scholar hanging above the door will drop down and ambush you. Keep your camera aimed up slightly as you approach the door and you should be able to spot the Scholar on the ceiling; either advance slowly so that it misses you when it drops, or use a ranged attack to knock it down first.

  • Lecture Theater 2 Balcony:
If you look up and to the right after going through the door and out onto the balcony, you'll notice another Scholar hanging from the ceiling, waiting to ambush you. This one lets you run beneath it safely, however, and will only drop down once you're about halfway along the balcony Because they move so slowly (and because it drops down so far behind you), you can just keep running and leave it alone if you wish, or double back and finish it off. Just past another Scholar at the end of the balcony you'll find a note on the ground that you can read, and there's another one in the nearby room.

  • Lecture Theater 1 Balcony:
As long as you hug the wall, you can make it through the door and onto the balcony without the Church Giant outside spotting you. Even if it does spot you, it can't follow you through the door, so you're safe once you're on the other side. There are no enemies along this stretch of the balcony, so you can just run along it and go through the door at the other end, where you'll find a chest containing a Communion Caryll Rune that increases the amount of Blood Vials you can carry. You can't get back to the Main Hallway from here, so you'll need to backtrack along the balcony and exit that way.

  • Patches' Lab Revisited:
The Church Giant in this area is standing very close to a hatch with a ladder That ladder leads down to Patches' Lab on the 1st floor, and to reach it you can either run past the enemy and drop straight down, or kill it first so that you can use the ladder safely. Once you're in the lab you can talk to Patches to receive the Beg for Life Gesture, and if you talk again you'll have the option to decide whether or not you think ill of him, Selecting 'no' will lead to him becoming friendly, and you'll receive an Anti-Clockwise Metamorphosis Caryll Rune that boosts your maximum Stamina.
