Garden of Eyes ❘ 瞳の苗床

Strong Enemy

Description

  • Simple but very dangerous enemies encountered at Byrgenwerth, these once-human test subjects were used by Provost Willem as living vessels for the cultivation of eyes. They attack with a limited set of very basic punches and slams, but inflict heavy damage and are capable of using a grab that inflicts a large amount of frenzy build-up. They are weak to most types of damage, especially elemental. These enemies are very aggressive and will constantly run you down, keeping you at close range and giving you as little room as possible to evade their grab. They can be interrupted and staggered, but the timing required to do so is quite precise. While they can perform the grab on its own, they will more frequently use it at the end of a short combo when you're stunned and less able to evade it; beware that the active frames of this attack begin late in its animation at the top of the leap, so you'll need to dodge about half a second after they initiate it. Carrying a large supply of Sedatives is a good idea when exploring Byrgenwerth; if you have none, you can obtain five from a corpse behind the closed gate to the patio.

Strategy

  • Strafe or quickstep backward to avoid their combos and when they use their Flying Grab, quickstep sideways. Try to stay behind them, as none of their attacks will hit you there, although the tracking on their aerial grab is strong enough that you may still need to quickstep sideways if they use it. If you feel confident in your ability to interrupt their melee swings, do so and finish them with visceral attacks; otherwise stay behind them and use R1 combos or back off and chip away at them with ranged weapons. The Flamesprayer can be fired while walking, allowing you to strafe around them while dishing out heavy fire damage; you can also use it to counterattack after baiting them into swinging at you and strafing backward out of their reach.

Notes

  • Preset Chalice Dungeons: None
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Garden of Eyes is considered a kin even though it is not listed as such in the official guide. [tested]
  • During Garden of Eyes grab attack animation, Frenzy build-up can NOT be reduced by repeatedly pressing buttons (mashing).
  • It's holding some kind of talisman with spider carving, it is theorized to be Children of Rom. [image]
  • Despite Garden of Eyes having 999 Slow Poison & Rapid Poison resistances it is still vulnerable to such status.
  • Root Dungeons: Found in Glyph: fnh9ctui, F/R/C Isz Gravestone L3, side area before layer boss; Glyph: vgw7xiav, F/R/C Isz Gravestone L3, in Ladder Gallery (main area). HP 2117 / Blood Echoes 9184 and drops [Triangle] Damp Blood Gems up to rating 17 x1 [20%], Quicksilver Bullets x4 [25%], Quicksilver Bullets x3 [51%], Pearl Slug x1 [4%]

Garden of Eyes
Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.

Base Level: Blood Echoes, HP, Damage and Def. Multipliers

  • For enemies that also appear (or exclusively appear) in dungeons, their stats will be shown at the base level, because their exact stats at any given point are calculated from these base values. The basic formula is: Total Value = Base x A x B x C x D. Multipliers written down below were datamined directly from the game files. Multiplier A represents depth (1 - 5) of the chalice dungeon; multiplier B is layer (1 - 4) of the specific chalice dungeon; multiplier C is used when dungeon is Pthumeru Ihyll; multiplier D is for calculating blood echoes when additional curse rite is used.
