Scourge Beast ❘ 罹患者の獣

Strong Enemy

Description

  • Scourge Beasts are fast, aggressive and tough; they attack quickly and often strike several times in a row. They have a weakness to fire, so Molotovs and Fire Paper are very effective, as are serrated weapons such as the Saw Cleaver and the Saw Spear. They also flinch and stumble easily, so transformation attacks can be useful with fast weapons. If you have enough stamina to kill a Scourge Beast in one chain, keep swinging; if not, save enough to quickstep a safe distance away and recover. Visceral attacks are the fastest way to damage them, but their unpredictable attacks make it difficult to interrupt or stagger them. The variants found in Yahar'gul and the Upper Cathedral Ward differ in appearance and elemental weaknesses, but behave in exactly the same way as those encountered in Central Yharnam.

Strategy

  • In some areas you can lure Scourge Beasts to narrow doorways and other borders that stop them from following you, then use ranged weapons or far-reaching melee attacks to kill them with little risk to yourself - this is especially useful in early areas, if you're being chased while low on health. Quickstepping forward through their attacks to get behind them works well - they turn slowly, so this is your chance to use an R1 chain or land a charged attack from behind to stagger them. The Flamesprayer is highly effective against Scourge Beasts, especially if you're forced to fight more than one at a time; when powered up with Bone Marrow Ash, it will tear them to shreds in seconds. Another useful strategy is to throw a Pungent Blood Cocktail and hit them from behind with a charged attack while they are chasing it; this item can also be used to buy yourself time to escape if you aren't able to fight your way out of the encounter.

Ashen Blood Beast Patient Effect

  • Enemies in Ashen Blood Beast Patient's Shriek vicinity get buff visually represented by the Red Eyes. In Old Yharnam affected enemies have stronger attacks, get Slow Poison property for them and HP boost. This effect is lost when enemies gets too far away or Ashen Blood Beast Patient is killed, in the latter it takes around 10 seconds for the effect to be lost. Exception are the Scourge Beasts who additionally gets idle animation that recovers their HP and effect is permanent.

Variants

Basic variant found throughout Yharnam. Variant with Blue Eyes found in Upper Cathedral Ward. Skeletal variant found in Yahar'gul.

Notes

  • Preset Chalice Dungeons: Ailing Loran, Lower Loran, Isz Gravestone
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Variant without the pieces of clothing in Isz Gravestone has same stats (HP, Echoes, Defences, Multipliers & Bonuses) and drop (pool & rates).
  • There is an unused variant of the Scourge Beast, named "moon", for the Isz Gravestone. [image; textures]
  • Fixed rally aura can appear on certain enemies exclusively in Loran dungeons. Despite their similarities, this aura is not related to Fetid rite. Enemies with such aura (red) will have Rally Effect and can regain health as you do. This aura appears around labyrinth madmen, male beast patients and scourge beasts. Enemies with rally aura recover 20% of their HP per hit. Besides rally ability, these enemies have only 70% of their normal HP and always drop cursed gems. Rally aura scourge beast can also drop Beast Blood Pellets (5% drop rate at base Discovery).
  • During Scourge Beast grab attack animation, ~40% damage can be reduced if you are repeatedly pressing buttons (mashing).
  • Upper Cathedral Ward is prominent place of Blue Eyed Scourge Beasts usually waiting in ambush. The biggest one happens in the main orphanage hall, where several beasts hang on the chandelier until it falls and chase begins. [demonstration]
