Caryll Rune

In-Game Description

A secret symbol left by Caryll, runesmith of Byrgenwerth.

A transcription of "eye," as spoken by left-behind Great
Ones. Allows one to make additional discoveries.

Eyes symbolize the truth Master Willem sought in his
research. Disillusioned by the limits of human intellect,
Master Willem looked to beings from higher planes for
guidance, and sought to line his brain with eyes in order to
    elevate his thoughts.

Overview

  • Caryll Runes are special items that you can attach to your character at the workshop in the Hunter's Dream. You can use up to four at onetime, and they provide a variety of very helpful effects. Use them tactically depending on the environments you plan to explore and the enemies you expect to face.
  • Before you can make use of Runes, you'll need the Rune Workshop Tool. This is found in Hemwick after defeating the Witch of Hemwick. After you have the tool, approach the Memory Altar in the Workshop and press X to equip Runes in your memory slots. You have three normal Memory Slots for basic runes, and a fourth "Oath Memory" slot. The basic runes are for use with normal Caryll Runes, and the Oath Memory slot is for Oath Runes only. Some runes have up to three different ranks, with higher ranked runes having more powerful effects.
  • Beware if you sell any Caryll Rune they will NOT respawn in New Game Plus.

Effects

  • Eye Runes increase your Discovery stat. This will allow you to find more items from defeated foes. If you find yourself running out of Blood Vials and Quicksilver Bullets in long Chalice Dungeons, Eye Runes can help you stock up when scavenging from the corpses of your enemies. They don't grant any bonuses in combat, however, so only use Eye Runes when you don't need the boost that other Runes can give.

Availability

  • Tier (1): Treasure in (Main Story): Nightmare of Mensis; near Mergo's Loft: Base Lamp. If you need further assistance to find the rune, you can follow the full Nightmare of Mensis Map.
  • Tier (2): Dropped by (Main Story): Master Willem in Byrgenwerth Lunarium
  • Tier (3): Treasure in (Root Dungeons): Isz Gravestone & Sinister Isz Gravestone; jmph3q6e, Sinister Isz L1 side area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020]; smki9ww3, Isz Gravestone L1 side area before layer boss [tested May 12, 2020]; alternatively found in False Depth Dungeon, p2tbyrh2, Isz Gravestone L1, side area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020], wxncg3sg, Isz Gravestone L1, side area before layer boss [tested May 12, 2020]

Notes

  • Unique Coffin Item Treasure (available) in (Root Dungeons): Eye +100 in Isz Gravestone [All Layers] and Sinister Isz Gravestone [All Layers], could be found in each bonus room and can only be looted once. For entire unique items list of each chalice follow to the Unique Items in Chalice Dungeons wiki page.
  • Current hypothesis is that Item Discovery may simply alter the loot tables of SOME enemies given certain minimum thresholds are met. More on Eye Runes and Item Discovery research here: [Reddit] More Than Meets The Eye (Rune) and another study Bloodgem Rating and Discovery conducted by Lake of Mud.
  • An undocumented feature of Bloodborne's Chalice Dungeons is that the Curse rite applies an invisible modifier to the player character's Discovery. More information on Item Discovery in Chalice Dungeons wiki page.
