Basic Information

  • As Bloodborne runs on a modified version of the engine used in Dark Souls, it is partially compatible with some Dark Souls modification and viewing software. In this article, the Bloodborne map files are being viewed using the program Dark Souls Map Studio by Katalash, available on Github. This reveals a number of assets which are present in the map files, but not loaded while the game is running. Everything collected and documented by Sophie Pilbeam (JSF).

THE HUNTER'S DREAM / ABANDONED OLD WORKSHOP

► The ritual altars display all the possible chalices overlapping each other. Moving them apart reveals two unseen chalices; a dish with a lid, and a Cleric Beast's head. ► The top of the fireplace in the Hunter's Dream actually has the missing photograph present, but located outside of the building where it cannot be seen. No photographs are present in the Abandoned Old Workshop.

No photographs are present in the Abandoned Old Workshop. ► An alternate closed version of the cabinet door is held under the map in the Hunter's Dream, which would have allowed for multiple states. In the finished game it is unused and the cabinet is always open. No alternate door exists in the Abandoned Old Workshop. ► Three unused corpses exist in the Hunter's Dream. One corpse, in the area where Gehrman sleeps, is connected to the Messengers that allow players to redeem the limited edition DLC code that unlocks the unique Messenger hats. There is also a further attached event that spawns the Eye of a Blood-Drunk Hunter if The Old Hunters DLC is installed. Further information is available on Lance McDonald's Twitter.

Further information is available on Lance McDonald's Twitter. ► An unused chest is present in the Hunter's Dream, in the corner near the altar where the note from the Messengers is now.
► The mirror has attached events which would have allowed the player character's appearance to have been changed. ► The "Shrines" in the distance. ► The broken Doll in the Abandoned Old Workshop is the same model as the one in the Hunter's Dream, just posed differently. An unused corpse is also present near the fence.

An unused corpse is also present near the fence. ► A small part of Cathedral Ward is present far above the Hunter's Dream. This is what is used in the "Yharnam Sunrise" ending.

HEMWICK

► The road with a tunnel, visible but inaccessible in the retail version. Viewing it from the side reveals that neither tunnel leads anywhere. ► An unused Mad One spawn point in the stables, and an additional one near the shortcut lift.
► The normal, non-hostile crows that fly away when the player character enters Hemwick. ► An unused Wandering Nightmare in the small tower full of corpses.

OLD YHARNAM

► A cross-section of the path the player character takes to Old Yharnam. ► Unused Beast Patient locations. ► Unused Beast Patient locations. ► Unused Beast Patient locations.
► Unused Beast Patient locations. ► Unused corpse placements. ► Unused corpse placements. ► Unused corpse placements.
► Unused corpse placements. ► An unused corpse below the ground in the Graveyard of the Darkbeast. ► The floating statue that appears in some retail versions (not 1.0). The Map Viewer reveals that it shares the same position as the trigger for an environmental sound effect. The glitch is therefore likely the result of the sound effect's position mistakenly being given to the wrong objects. ► An unused treasure chest exists in the church where the crucified Blood-Starved Beast is.

CATHEDRAL WARD

► Two unused lamp placements for Oedon Chapel. Arianna's child is also present in the chapel itself. ► The stationary guns present in the Hunter's Nightmare appear in Cathedral Ward, even without The Old Hunters installed. The pressure plates that make them fire are also visible.

► The passage to Forbidden Woods has an unused closed door. ► The top of the shaft above the Grand Cathedral's altar has a gap in it. The blood-splattered altar statue is held outside the building and moved during the cutscene in which Amelia transforms. ► The flashback to Byrgenwerth takes place in a recreation of the interior, located in Cathedral Ward but rendered invisible. Inside is a copy of every enemy for the area overlapped.

CENTRAL YHARNAM

► The old woman who fulfilled a role similar to Iosefka in the TGS 2014 build is present in the main corridor of Iosefka's Clinic. The Blood Minister NPC, also removed apart from his appearance during character creation, is present by the door. ► Unused Beast Patient locations for Iosefka's Clinic.
► Unused Beast Patient locations for Iosefka's Clinic. ► Four celestial larvae and a Garden of Eyes in the Clinic's courtyard.
► The room used for the introductory cutscene is floating out of bounds, along with a piece of wall which survives from an earlier clinic design. An intact version of the broken window that connects to the rooftop is also present. ► Three unused Mad One spawn locations. One is in the front courtyard of Iosefka's Clinic, one is under the arch near the dark house, and one is by the bridge leading to Gascoigne.

An unused switch is held out of bounds below the map. A cross-section of the passage past the metal gate reveals that it connects to nothing.

A cross-section of the passage past the metal gate reveals that it connects to nothing. ► The non-hostile Gascoigne appears in three locations.

UPPER CATHEDRAL WARD

► An unused lamp is placed right at the beginning. ► The door leading to the building has an improvised barricade made from coffins. The door is clear in the retail version. ► The interior of the building extends beyond the exterior. This is masked when playing the game, but visible when examining the map data directly.
► An additional statue is placed in the corridor patrolled by a Brainsucker, which would have provided cover from its paralysis attack. ► Three unused corpses are present, including one in the center of Lumenflower Gardens.
► The unused elevator going from Lumenflower Gardens to the base of the Grand Cathedral. ► The Altar of Despair is hard to see in its entirety due to lighting and the placement of rubble. The map viewer reveals that there is an altar similar to the one in the Grand Cathedral, and the corpse resembling Rom is placed on it.
► A cross-section showing the placement of Lumenflower Gardens, the Grand Cathedral and the Altar of Despair.

CAINHURST

► Unused geometry floating out of bounds.

YAHAR'GUL

► A series of Yharnamites, Executioners and a Church Giant are floating in space outside the door to Yahar'gul. These appear to be a remnant of the original path, which was part of this map until it was moved to Cathedral Ward.

► Three unused Mad One spawn locations. ► Because of the way The One Reborn's introductory cutscene works, there are multiple copies of each Bell Ringer present. Their bells are held under the map.
► Three unused chests. One is where the Nourishing Blood Gem is now, and the other two are above the corpse with the Upper Cathedral Ward Key.

BYRGENWERTH & LECTURE HALL

► The relative positions of Byrgenwerth and the Lecture Hall, which occupy the same map despite being treated as disconnected areas. ► Unused Garden of Eyes locations.
► Unused Garden of Eyes locations. ► An unused small Celestial Emissary occupies the same location as the Brainsucker does now. ► Willem and Micolash both exist in the Byrgenwerth map, as though ready for the flashback scene shown in Cathedral Ward. However, the Byrgenwerth map is not used for the flashback, which instead uses a small recreation of the Byrgenwerth interior (shown earlier on this page). Their purpose here is unknown.
► A switch exists near the chest with Empty Phantasm Shell in it. This switch used to open the doors to the Lunarium. ► The Lecture Hall originally occupied the same space as Moonside Lake does now, and the original enemy layout remains there. This is a different enemy layout to the one used in the current Lecture Hall, and features far fewer Slime Scholars, an additional Church Giant and a Snake Parasite. Two treasure chests which do not align to the current layout are also present.
► Rom and the Children of Rom are present in Moonside Lake, showing their spawn positions (and Rom's teleportation targets) are preset. Queen Yharnam is also present. ► Unused pieces of geometry are present.
► The Lecture Hall has no exterior as it is only ever seen from inside. The sequences in which the player character walks from the building into the Nightmare take place in small dark corridors that use the same wooden wall textures as the rest of the hall, lit so that they are invisible.

NIGHTMARE FRONTIER

► Several unused Wandering Nightmare locations.
