Church Giant (Wrecking Ball) ❘ 教会の大男

Strong Enemy

Description

  • These massive towering giants can inflict tremendous damage and will send you flying any time one of their attacks connect, but their long windup and recovery periods leave them vulnerable, and make them much less frightening than they first appear. They also walk and turn extremely slowly, allowing you to position yourself behind them where most of their attacks can't reach you. They have very high defense, enormous amounts of health, high fire and bolt resistance, and they cannot be interrupted or staggered normally; breaking their super armor with a charged attack or by hitting their heads will bring them to their knees momentarily and allow you to get in a few extra hits.
  • The massive iron wrecking balls wielded by some Church Giants have extremely long range, but are nearly incapable of striking close to their bodies, creating enormous blind spots and adding to their already glaring weaknesses. Avoid standing in front of them, as this is where the majority of their attacks are targeted, although most of these will not hit you if you stand extremely close. Positioning yourself behind them at pointblank range will allow you to evade everything they have, even their 360-degree spins.
  • There is one move that can be used by all Church Giants, and while they rarely use it, you should always be on the lookout for it. If you're standing reasonably close in front of them they'll sometimes raise their leg up and use a powerful stamp, so powerful that it actually breaks their leg. When that happens you'll be able to see the bone sticking out of their knee, and if you attack it you'll do considerably more damage than normal and have the ability to stagger them. Standing in front of them does put you at greater risk from their other attacks, however, so you'll need to be careful.

Strategy

  • As with the other Church Giants, focus on staying directly behind them while you let loose with your strongest melee attacks. As long as you stand as close to them as possible, their 360-degree spins will pass over your head; take advantage of this blind spot while continually readjusting your position with strafes and quicksteps to deal the most damage with the least risk of being hit. Their overhead smashes strike in a straight line and are easily avoided by quickstepping to either side, though beware that they will alternate between using their vertical slams and frontal 180-degree sweeps; also note that if their first attack is a horizontal swing, they may use a second, slower frontal sweep with a wider arc and longer reach immediately afterward.

Notes

  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • You will find this Church Giant kneeling in which case he is sleeping and therefore vulnerable when you are silent. In Cathedral Ward Church Giants go to sleep when time shifts from Evening to Nighttime.

Church Giant Weak Points

  • In Total and Part HP columns you will find value of the base HP without area multiplier. In Bloodborne each entity has own base HP (and NG) value which is then multiplied by the area (or part of the area) multiplier in which enemy or boss is in.
  • In the HP Percentage column you will find value of how much damage you need to deal to that body part to break it in percentage of total boss HP.
  • Enemies and Bosses can have multiple weak points which some are breakable (listed with multipliers) and take higher damage while broken while some will have only higher damage multipler the whole time (mainly listed in the notes section).
Body Part Total HP Part HP HP [%] Damage X Damage X
after breaking
Legs 400 40 10.00% 1 1.50
  • Notes: There is one move that can be used by all Church Giants, and while they rarely use it, you should always be on the lookout for it. Unlike armed Church Giants both fist versions have also powerful slam attacks with their left or right arm where they break them and you can hit the bone that sticks out of them to make them stagger for a moment, with no visceral opportunity though.

Attack Patterns

Key Attack Interrupt Notes
Frontal Sweep No Frontal 180-degree radius, sometimes followed by a second sweep; quickstep backward.
Running Overhead Slam No Running downward slam with four meters' forward momentum; quickstep toward them.
Frontal Combo No Up to four frontal overhead slams with long reach; quickstep backward.
Spinning Combo No One frontal strike followed by up to two 360-degree spins. Extremely slow; quickstep or strafe backward.
