Piercing Rifle ❘ 貫通銃

Left Hand Weapon

In-Game Description

A rifle engineered by the Oto Workshop, the precursor to
the workshop of the heretical Powder Kegs.

Designed for hunting on narrow streets, this rifle has been
optimized to cause perforation wounds, but is unfit for
    reliably countering attacks.
Note 1: The same in-game description in US & UK versions. ✓
Note 2: Original Japanese text on Original Japanese Item Index page. ✓

Overview

  • The Piercing Rifle has higher base damage than most standard firearms, and great scaling to boot. The Evelyn's higher scaling will still beat in overall damage by a slight amount, but you won't need to invest nearly as many points into bloodtinge to be able to use this weapon. This is good if you want to distribute your stats more evenly, but you'll still want to weigh your options since its recovery period is pretty drawn out. Its name is derived from its ability to pierce through enemies, which will allow you hit multiple targets in a line, making this especially useful against funneled crowds. As its description states, this weapon isn't particularly good for countering attacks, but it's still very possible.
  • Testing: After firing, player is staggered, unable to perform any action, for 29 frames (almost whole second 30 frames/s) from when bullet leaves the barrel; and in total of 40 frames of animation from moment you press L2 until you can perform action again. In case of hitting multiple targets/players in line projectile has the same properties for every aligned target with only difference being damage multiplier based on the distance from shooter. Blocking with Wooden & Loch Shields does not affect projectile for players in line; headshots and parries are possible even when bullet is going through multiple targets.

Availability

  • Sold by: Bath Messengers [Hunter's Dream]
  • Firing Hammer Badge: This badge is held by the Bestial Hunter in the Hunter's Nightmare. In order to obtain it you'll need to defeat him first. Although the badge does not add many items to your shop lineup, if you're a Trophy hunter or a completionist it's still quite important, because it's the only way you can gain access to the Piercing Rifle.

Notes

  • This Weapon is part of The Old Hunters DLC.
  • Available for purchase after obtaining Firing Hammer Badge.
  • Piercing Rifle is rather situational firearm which you can take full advantage of in Chalice Dungeons and its narrow corridors. It is also practical against large bosses where you can hit multiple body parts, limbs and weak points for multiple damage proc with each shot.
  • Piercing Rifle can also go through the Beast Roar and punish it.
