Old Hunter Bone ❘ 古い狩人の遺骨

Arcane Item

In-Game Description

The bone of an old hunter whose name is lost.

It is said that he was an apprentice to old Gehrman, and a
practitioner of the art of Quickening, a technique particular
    to the first hunters.

It is most appropriate that hunters, carriers of the torch who
are sustained by the dream, would tease an old art from his
    remains.
Note 1: The same in-game description in US & UK versions. ✓
Note 2: Original Japanese text on Original Japanese Item Index page. ✓

Effects

  • You need 15 points of arcane stat to use it, and it costs four bullets per use. It increases the speed of your rolling and quicksteps. This does not increase the number of invincibility frames in your roll. It does, however, allow you to recover from a roll much more quickly; this means you can start another roll sooner. In that way, the Old Hunter Bone can actually provide you with more invincibility.
  • For example, let's say you roll three times without the Old Hunter Bone, and three times with its effect. The percentage of time that you spent invincible would be higher for when you used the Old Hunter Bone because there were less recovery frames in-between your rolls. This also lets you recover more quickly and begin charging an (R2) attack sooner. You can use this with a fast weapon, like the Saw Cleaver, to perform backstabs more reliably! If you combine this with the Oedon Writhe Rune, you can even regenerate some of the ammo you spend to use the Old Hunter Bone!
  • Self Buff Limitation: Just as you can apply only one buff for the weapons, you cannot have more than one self buff active at the same time. Only exception is Beasthood generated by the Beast Claw. Therefore you can't combine effects of the items such as Arcane Items Messenger's Gift and Old Hunter Bone. Consumables Beast Blood Pellet, Blue Elixir, Lead Elixir and even special blood vials with self buff effect like Blood of Adeline, Blood of Adella, Blood of Arianna. So beware when going into the fight that you can't use two of before mentioned items and "cannot use" animation will be performed when trying so which can cost you the fight.

Availability

  • Treasure in (Main Story): Abandoned Old Workshop; in front of tombstone next to the Workshop. If you need further assistance to find the Old Hunter Bone, you can follow the full Abandoned Old Workshop Map.

Notes

  • It doesn't increase number of invincibility frames but it does allow you to recover from a roll much quicker.
  • QS Bullets cost reduced from 6 to 5 in Patch 1.03.
  • QS Bullets cost reduced from 5 to 4 in Patch 1.04.
  • Lost in translation: In-game description says "he was an apprentice to old Gehrman", but in the original japanese text it says "その狩人" ("that hunter") without gender-specific pronoun.
  • Blood Crow of Cainhurst, Gehrman, The First Hunter [Effect] and Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower [Effect] use Old Hunter Bone.
  • For more details of its in-game model view this datamined render.

Movement iFrames Roll Cancel Hyper Armor Notes
Standard
  • Roll Cancel: Roll cancel is the moment of the table that allows you to cancel the current animation into backstep, rolls or dashes.

  • Hyper Armor: It's a hidden statistic that prevents character from flinching or stumbling.

  • Bloodborne & Dark Souls 3 comparison:

  • DkS3 fast roll = 13 iframes, 21 frames roll cancel, (16 iframes bloodring)

  • DkS3 med roll = 13 iframes, 21 frames roll cancel, 12-20 frames hyper armor, (16 iframes bloodring)

  • DkS3 fat roll = 12 iframes, 28 frames roll cancel, 12-25 frames hyper armor, (15 iframes bloodring)

  • Consecutive BB forward dashes are 3 frames faster than DkS3 rolls. Consecutive BB bone forward dashes are 5 frames faster than DkS3 rolls. Both dashes have 2 frames and 5 frames less i-frames respectively than DkS3 rolls.
