Caryll Rune

In-Game Description

A Caryll rune that transcribes inhuman sounds.

The "Heir" sees sentimentality in the warmth of blood, and
acknowledges visceral attacks as one of the darker hunter
    techniques.

More blood echoes gained from visceral attacks.

Perhaps the "Heir" is a hunter who bears the echoing will of
    those before him.

Overview

  • Caryll Runes are special items that you can attach to your character at the workshop in the Hunter's Dream. You can use up to four at onetime, and they provide a variety of very helpful effects. Use them tactically depending on the environments you plan to explore and the enemies you expect to face.
  • Before you can make use of Runes, you'll need the Rune Workshop Tool. This is found in Hemwick after defeating the Witch of Hemwick. After you have the tool, approach the Memory Altar in the Workshop and press X to equip Runes in your memory slots. You have three normal Memory Slots for basic runes, and a fourth "Oath Memory" slot. The basic runes are for use with normal Caryll Runes, and the Oath Memory slot is for Oath Runes only. Some runes have up to three different ranks, with higher ranked runes having more powerful effects.
  • Beware if you sell any Caryll Rune they will NOT respawn in New Game Plus.

Effects

  • The Heir Rune gives you additional Blood Echoes when you kill enemies with Visceral attacks, alternatively you have about 6 seconds to kill the enemy after your Visceral Attack to benefit from rune's effect. Additionally if you manage to perform second visceral attack in this time window, you will receive the effect of the Heir rune twice. As with the Moon Rune, this is helpful if you want to level up or purchase a lot of consumable items from the shop. Heir Runes don't grant any bonuses in combat, however, so only use them when you don't need the boost that other Runes can give.

Availability

  • Tier (1): Dropped by (Main Story): Old Hunter Henryk in Central Yharnam Tomb of Oedon
  • Tier (2): Treasure in (Main Story): Yahar'gul, Unseen Village (Blood Moon); Widow's Requiem near second Bell Ringer. If you need further assistance to find the rune, you can follow the full Yahar'gul, Unseen Village (Blood Moon) Map.
  • Tier (3): Treasure in (Root Dungeons): Pthumeru Ihyll; df235ysm, F/R Pthumeru Ihyll L1, side area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020]; alternatively found in False Depth Dungeon, srigzz9m, Pthumeru Ihyll L1, side area before layer lamp [tested May 12, 2020]

Notes

  • Unique Coffin Item Treasure (available) in (Root Dungeons): Heir +50% in Pthumeru Ihyll [All Layers] and Sinister Pthumeru Ihyll [All Layers], could be found in each bonus room and can only be looted once. For entire unique items list of each chalice follow to the Unique Items in Chalice Dungeons wiki page.
  • The effect where you can multiply the Heir effect if you manage to perform two visceral attacks in short time period can apply to bosses as well. The most unique effect it has when there are multiple enemies in the fight as with the Living Failures boss. Then it doesn't matter on which individual Failure you perform the visceral as long as you make it in time, as seen in this video.
  • Fight with Old Hunter Henryk is part of Eileen the Crow quest: If you head straight to Father Gascoigne's boss area after Eileen warns you about Henryk, he will attack you immediately and Eileen will arrive partway through the battle to assist you. If you reload the game after receiving Eileen's warning, she will already be fighting Henryk when you arrive.

Heir - Testing Effect Duration When Killed With Normal ATK After Visceral ATK

Heir Effect Frames Seconds Heir Effect Frames Seconds Notes
Yes 171 5.70 Note: Frames were counted in interval when DMG on screen from Visceral Attack vanishes and ends when DMG on the screen appears from the finishing blow. Seconds, frames value / 30 frames (30 frames per second).
Yes 187 6.23
Yes 195 6.50
Yes 197 6.56 No 202 6.73 Results: Heir Effect wears off between frames 197 - 202 which is 6.56 - 6.73 seconds. Therefore in general you have about 6 seconds to kill the enemy after your Visceral Attack to benefit from Heir Rune effect.

Heir - Testing Effect After Multiple Visceral ATKs

Visceral Attacks Blood Echoes Heir Effect Visceral Attacks Blood Echoes Heir Effect Notes
0 15 560 - 0 15 560 - Note: To be able to perform two visceral attacks in 6 seconds window to obtain the double benefit of the rune, it has to be done with two linked backstabs that will kill the enemy. There is no time to perform the third visceral attack nor to utilize parries.
1 21 784 +40% 1 32 675 +109.99%
2 30 497 +39.99% 2 68 619 +110%
Used Heir tier 2 (+40%). If you count the multiplicative effect you will get the 95.99% (not 40% + 40%) increase of gained blood echoes if you perform two visceral attacks with 40% Heir rune. Used Heir tier 2 (+40%) & Heir tier 3 (+50%). If you count the multiplicative effect you will get the 340.99% (not 90% + 90%, not even 110% + 110% from base multiplicative effect of the 40% + 50% runes) increase of gained blood echoes if you perform two visceral attacks with 40% + 50% Heir runes. Results: Research was done on Labyrinth Madman in Pthumeru Ihyll L1. If you manage to perform two visceral attacks in 6 seconds time period you will receive the Heir effect twice. The second effect uses as the start value increased blood echoes from the first visceral attack effect, that is why the both effects have the same percetage but the multiplicative effect is much greater.
