Basic Information [Speed Souls]

  • Bloodborne is a 3D Action RPG developed by FromSoftware Inc. with gameplay/setting comparable to Dark/Demon's Souls. It was released in March 2015 exclusively for the Playstation 4. DLC named The Old Hunters was released in November 2015, bosses included are mandatory for All Bosses runs.

Categories

  • Any%: Triggering the end credits as quickly as possible.
  • Any% (Current Patch): Triggering the end credits as quickly as possible on the current patch.
  • All Bosses: Triggering the end credits as quickly as possible after defeating every boss enemy except the chalice dungeons in the game.
  • Miscellaneous Categories: An overview of all other miscellaneous categories in Bloodborne.

Timing Rules

  • Any%: The run time for non-single character runs is counted as the In-game time (IGT) of both character save file combined, for single character runs, it's simply the IGT of your file. RTA is optional.
  • All Bosses: The final time (IGT) is as follows: After killing Moon Presence, remember to obtain the boss' blood echoes as usual and then quit the game before the final black screen if possible. In case it's not possible, force quit the game using the PS4 dashboard (use the OPTION button when having the game application selected to bring up the menu), and finally booting up the menu to see the state of the save file.

Glitches

  • Item Dupe (Pebble / Storage Method): By having a second character with a single item in the storage, it is possible to transform an item into 98 of the same. (Fixed in 1.02) Glitch tutorial by PizzaMakers on YouTube
  • Stored Consumable Duplication: Stored Consumable Duplication is a glitch which lets the player duplicate consumables. This method of duplicating consumables works by storing the item animation by falling, and putting the item in storage to avoid losing it. The player then uses the Hunter's Mark to re-use the animation and duplicate the item. Stored Consumable Duplication Tutorial YouTube by Dan Koyster on YouTube and Stored Consumable Duplication Demonstration With Inputs YouTube by Ahady on YouTube
  • Ladder Cancel Warping: Ladder Cancel Warping is a glitch which can warp the player to a ladder after a Save and Quit to save time. Ladder warping is a glitch caused by canceling the initial ladder climbing animation with another animation. Any animation can trigger the ladder warp: a weapon transformation, shooting a bullet, toggling a weapon, consuming a health vial, etc. The player is able to move while maintaining the ladder as their last standing location. Upon saving and quitting the game, the player will spawn back at the base of the ladder. This is most often used on the ladder before Amelia to avoid running back down the steps to the Forbidden Woods and also is used in certain chalices in the All Achievements category. • Shadows AI Freeze: is a glitch in Bloodborne allowing the player to enter the Shadows boss arena without their AI engaged, thus guaranteeing a free kill. The skip is located at the end of the swamp before the giant pig & the boss arena. To perform the skip, the player needs to do a series of jumps to get out of bounds, then fall into the boss arena to spawn the Shadows (at this point the normal boss health bars will show up). The player then quits out, which reloads the character out of bounds before they fell into the arena. Falling back into the arena a second time will allow the player to kill the Shadows without any resistance. Bloodborne Shadows AI Freeze (Current patch) video by GiantCookieJar
  • During the Vicar Amelia fight, it is possible to exit the game and upon reloading the save, the player character is still inside the boss arena, but Amelia's AI is not engaged, thus guaranteeing a free kill. (Fixed in 1.07)
  • The Orphan Glitch is a glitch in Bloodborne that allows the player to temporarily freeze Orphan's AI. The effect can be extended for the entire duration of the fight, making it a great strategy for the All Bosses route and for players struggling with the boss in general. The player simply backstabs or parries Orphan to cause it to become vulnerable and in the "visceral state". The player then must hit the boss with the appropriate consumable to weapon to trigger the glitch. It isn't quite understood why the glitch happens, but the current theory is that Orphan of Kos does not have an animation associated with getting stunned out of a "visceral state" animation when hit with specific items and weapons. Since the game cannot display an animation that doesn't exist, the boss defaults to a standing animation until it is able to recover (between 4-6 seconds). It is possible to trigger the glitch by using Pebbles, Throwing Knives, Poison Knives or a specific attack (untransformed R1) from the Blades of Mercy.

Skips

  • For more information on speed run skips check this wiki page
  • Central Yharnam: The Sewer Skip is a skip allowing the player to skip the sewer section in Central Yharnam in order to reach the Father Gascoigne boss fight faster. (Patched in 1.03)
  • Old Yharnam: The Old Yharnam Skips are a series of skips in which the player exploits the vertical geography of the level in order to bypass entire sections of the area.
  • Amelia skip: By jumping into a deathcam state, the player can skip getting the password from the skull, making it possible to skip Vicar Amelia.
  • Hut skip: Hut Skip is commonly referring to three sequenced skips that allow the player to bypass most of the Forbidden Woods & head straight towards the Shadows of Yharnam boss fight.
  • Forbidden Woods: The Forbidden Woods Skip is a skip allowing the player to skip a portion of the Forbidden Woods in order to reach the Shadows of Yharnam boss fight faster.
  • Lunarium Key Skip: The Lunarium Key Skip is a skip in which the player exploits the location of an enemy and the level's geography in order to skip getting the Lunarium Key.
  • Yahar'gul skip: The Yahar'gul Skip is a skip in which the player exploits the geometry of the level in order to clip out of bounds and avoid traversing through a large majority of the level.
  • Lecture Hall skip: The Lecture Hall Skip is a skip allowing the player to bypass the second floor of the Lecture Hall in order to reach the Nightmare Frontier (Amygdala) faster.
  • Nightmare Frontier Skip: The Nightmare Frontier Skip is a skip allowing the player to skip a large portion of the Nightmare Frontier in order to reach Amygdala faster.
  • Cave Skip: The Cave Skip is a skip allowing the player to skip the cave to the poison lake in order to reach Iosefka’s Clinic faster.
  • Orphanage Key Skip: The Orphanage Key Skip is a skip allowing the player to get the Orphanage key from a Brainsucker through a door, instead of running all the way around.
  • Fishing Hamlet Skip: The Fishing Hamlet Skip is a skip allowing the player to skip a large portion of the Fishing Hamlet in order to reach the Orphan of Kos boss fight faster.
  • Iosefka's Clinic skip: is a skip using a wolf's grab attack to clip through the wall collision inside Iosefka's Clinic.

Category Any%

  • Bloodborne Any% is a speedrun category in which the player tries to complete the game as fast as possible. There are no added restrictions on how the player completes the game, they must simply start a new character and trigger the end credits as quickly as they can. Glitches, skips and sequence breaks are all allowed. Using other programs to affect the game or editing the game code is not allowed.
  • This category is run either on the 1.00 disc version or the 1.01 digital version as it allows you to dupe items by using an additional character.
  • The world record is 18:52 IGT by ImpactfulForest (twitch). Route chosen: Saw Cleaver. The leaderboards for this category are available here.
  • Rules:
  • Like all Bloodborne speedruns the run time is recorded using the In-Game Timer. This means once the player has finished the game they must quit out inside Iosefka's Clinic and check their time. For this category you need to add the time of your dupe-character to your final run time.

  • In the situation where the game/console crashes, you are permitted to restart the game and continue the run, that is unless the crash has inadvertently contravened one of the Save & Quit exceptions, as listed above.
  • Glitches, skips and sequence breaks are all allowed.
  • Playing in offline mode is recommended. Online play with other players in any way is completely banned.
