Skips [mostly used for speedruns Speed Souls]

  • Iosefka's Clinic:
  • Iosefka's Clinic skip discovered by GiantCookieJar, functional on the latest Bloodborne patch (v1.09). This skip takes advantage of the forward momentum of the Scourge Beast's grab attack - the player is locked into an animation that can clip their character's body through walls. The skip will take you to the back of Iosefka's Clinic and allows you to visit the Forbidden Woods early or perform Timezone Manipulation.

How to perform the skip: 1. Since the Scourge Beast in Iosefka's Clinic doesn't respawn, it's essential that you don't kill it; 2. Get the Scourge Beast's attention and lure it all the way upstairs near the room where your character first wakes up; 3. Position yourself in the left corner and bait the beast's grab attack. Once it grabs you, rapidly mash the R2 and L2 buttons; 4. If done correctly, you will clip through the wall and out of bounds. Hug the wall on your left and run forward as if going downstairs. Turn right and run (no circle just full analog stick, dont' walk) just as you reach the bottom of the stairs. You'll see that you are now in the back area of the clinic. Continue walking on top of the wall until you can safely drop on the ground nearby the well and Brainsucker.

  • Alternative strategy: [closed gate in front of the Clinic]
  • Central Yharnam:
  • The Sewer Skip is a skip in Bloodborne that allows to player to skip the sewer section in Central Yharnam in order to reach the Father Gascoigne boss fight faster. The skip is located at the caged dogs close to the elevator shortcut. To perform the skip, climb up a sack of suitcases on the left before the bridge and jump onto the pillar. From there, you can do the skip in two ways. In the first method, you line yourself up with the first pillar on the fence, jump towards it and try to get a plunge on the fence. After that, run over the fence and drop down. In the second method, you line yourself up with the first or the second pillar on the fence and jump towards it. After you rolled over the fence you quit out. If done correctly, you will spawn on the fence. After that, run over the fence and drop down.

  • Cathedral Ward:
  • The Amelia Skip is a skip in Bloodborne in which the player exploits the geometry of the level in order to achieve a deathcam state and bypass the password door into the Forbidden Woods. The skip is located by the ladder upon re-entering Cathedral Ward after the Abandoned Church Workshop. To setup: open the gate past the ladder, then climb up the ladder past the Numbing Mist pickup onto the roof below, then land the character on the fence of next roof below. Once this is achieved, walk towards the end of the fence & roll off to achieve a deathcam. In deathcam state, one must traverse the normal pathing towards the Forbidden Woods door, while still picking up necessary items. Once past the password door, the player can quitout & return the game to a normal state, behind the door which would otherwise remain locked.
  • Demonstration: [Demonstration by Mário Nete]
  • Healing Church Workshop:
  • It is possible to skip fight with Blood-starved Beast and get into the lower streets of Healing Church Workshop via back entrance elevator from Cathedral Ward. Climb the ladder right after the Oedon Chapel Gate in Cathedral Ward, on top of the ladder are numbing mists, and jump on invisible platform right next to the ladder, from there you can jump where the elevator is. Note that you cannot open the door to Beast-possessed Soul at the bottom of the tower.
  • Demonstration: [Healing Church Workshop "Back Entrance"]
  • Forbidden Woods:
  • Main Forbidden Woods Skip - This specific skip requires the player to jump onto a specific rock near the crow enemies in the first area. While it might seem like a dead end at first, jumping onto the rocks on the far left allows the player to reach an area that is out of bounds and normally inaccessible through normal play. If you navigate the OoB area correctly, you will drop down between two huts, successfully circumnavigating the need to go through the swamp and small village area to reach the later area of the Forbidden Woods.
  • Demonstration: [Bloodborne 1.05 (and 1.07) - Forbidden Woods Skip]
  • Forbiden Woods Hut Skip - This skip utilizes a series of careful invisible ledge walking to gain entrance to the Forbidden Woods hut near the first bonfire (where Vatlr is) without needing to open the gate or raise the elevator. Doing this will allow you to open the gate from the other side without needing to go through the woods to activate the elevator from below. It *is* possible to death-drop onto the button to activate the elevator for the first time; thus, removing the need to go through the forest to obtain this shortcut. However, the activation of the switch through suicide is nearly impossible to pull off and is not recommended.
  • Demonstration: [Forbidden Woods Hut Clip]
  • Forbidden Woods Snakeman Bridge Skip - This skip exploits the way that the game calculates fall damage on slopes and when player characters drop onto certain objects. From the Snakeman Bridge (right after the Windmill and right next to the elevator shortcut that leads to the shortcut of this area) you can simply walk out of bounds by around around some tombstones that would normally mark the barrier. From there, you can drop down onto a slope and land in between two objects lower down. Due to the way Bloodborne (and the other souls games really) calculates fall damage on sloped surfaces, it is possible to survive by reloading your character or jumping to a specific location after the fall. Resetting your character with a reload will always remove any and all fall damage from a character in the souls games, even if the damage is still "pending" as the game waits for the character to hit the ground.
  • Demonstration: [New Forbidden Woods skip]
  • Forbidden Woods Death Cam Skip - This skip utilizes a glitch called Death Cam that is present in this game, as well as Dark Souls I and Dark Souls III. When a character gets close to a kill box, the game will automatically move the camera to a fixed location and cease loading all areas except the area around where the player started the glitch. In a way, the game thinks that you have "died". For this skip, you jump from a ledge near the first Lamp in Forbidden Woods and land near a couple of tombstones. Doing this will activate the death cam. While the game is in this state, most assets and no enemies will be loaded in and all movement controls will be reversed. It is possible to make it to Shadows of Yharnam, but they will still spawn in and attack you (although at this time it's impossible to see or effectively fight them). If Shadows of Yharnam are already dead, the game restricts you from entering the next area (both Byrgenwerth and Cathedral Ward are closed off by invisible walls while in Death Cam).

  • Cave Skip - The Cave Skip is a skip in Bloodborne allowing the player to skip the cave to the poison lake in order to reach Iosefka’s Clinic faster. The skip is located near the 3 Beast Blood Pellets guarded by a Large Huntsman. To perform the skip, run across the gravestones and jump out of bounds. When you are out of bounds, go up to the left until you reach a wall. Drop down on the graves and roll away into the poison lake.

  • Upper Cathedral Ward:
  • The Orphanage Key Skip is a skip in Bloodborne that allows the player to get the Orphanage key from a Brainsucker through a door, instead of running all the way around. The skip is located in the Upper Cathedral Ward. As soon as you enter the building, head right. At the end of the hallway there is a door on the left. The goal is to provoke the Brainsucker with a ranged attack to lure him to the door. This is usually done with the Threaded Cane, but it is also possible with other weapons such as the Kirkhammer. After luring the Brainsucker to the door, finish him off to get the Orphanage Key.

  • Old Yharnam:
  • The "Old Yharnam Skips" are a series of skips in Bloodborne in which the player exploits the vertical geography of the level in order to bypass entire sections of the area. Located at the very beginning of the "Old Yharnam" area, it is right after the first and second dialog intermissions from the Old Hunter Djura. The player must avoid various beast enemies and an onslaught of bullets from Djura in order to make the skip and land very close to the "Blood-starved Beast" boss arena.
  • There are several different ways to perform the skip, but the most popular involve jumping to an invisible ledge and one involving running the ledges located on side of the building. There are several exeuction videos below showcasing a variety of different techniques and paths that result in the desired skip.

  • Byrgenwerth:
  • The Lunarium Key Skip is a skip in Bloodborne in which the player exploits the location of an enemy and the level's geography in order to skip getting the Lunarium Key (an essential key item needed to progress the game forward and reach a mandatory boss).
  • Located in Byrgenwerth, the skip revolves using the hitbox of the tail on the Fluorescent Flower enemy near the far side of the college. Using a Blue Elixer (or quitting out behind said enemy) the player can wait for an right opportunity to use the tail to boost their jump to gain enough height to clear the fence behind it. Doing so will result in immediately falling down into the lake and beginning the Rom, the Vacuous Spider boss fight. The other way to perform this skip involves jumping off a ledge near the Byrgenwerth lamp, onto a nearby statue, and then getting a near perfect angle jump to bypass certain geometry to clip into the boss fight. This method is extremely precise and is never used in serious speedrun attempts.

  • Yahar'gul:
  • The Yahar'gul Skip is a skip in Bloodborne in which the player exploits the geometry of the level in order to clip out of bounds and avoid traversing through a large majority of the level.
  • The skip is located right after the initial lantern that becomes available after defeating Rom. Using their animations that give their character forward momentum they are able to wedge themselves between two fence posts and fall down to the lower area of Yahar'gul. A Blue Elixir is commonly used with this skip in order to avoid drawing the attention of a second enemy when performing the skip. If the player finds themselves on the ledge of the fence after performing the skip, the use of the Hunter's Salutation gesture is enough to drop them to the next platform.
  • Another skip that can be performed to skip Yahar'gul is the elevator skip. In this skip the player intentionally causes their death by falling down the elevator shaft near the skip, but their corpse manages to trigger the elevator switch at the bottom. The player can then use the elevator to skip the rest of the area. This method is considered to be very inconsistent and is not used in any route.

  • Yahar'gul One Reborn (alive) Skip:
  • This is another skip that uses the Death Cam to skip portions of the game. After jumping from a very specific ledge in Upper Yahar'gul, it is possible to obtain the Death Cam glitch. Doing so will allow you to walk through Yahar'gul without the enemies (and most of the assets) from loading in. If One Reborn's initial load screen has already been seen by the player, it is possible to walk completely through the fight and to Micolash's Mummy that warps you to the Lecture Hall. If the cutscene has not been activate, the fight will start and the player will have no choice but to quit out to break the Death Cam glitch or die due to lack of any visual of the boss while in top down mode. This skip is the only one in the game that allows you to skip a mandatory boss (in current patch).
  • Demonstration: [One Reborn Skip by Romanticore]
  • Lecture Hall:
  • The Lecture Hall Skip is a skip in Bloodborne that allows the player to bypass the second floor of the Lecture Hall in order to reach the Nightmare Frontier (Amygdala) faster.
  • The skip involves using the geography of a wall pillar and the baseboards of the flooring to boost your jump to clear a balcony railing. The skip is located in the room immediately left of the Lantern on the second floor. The player will open a door and proceed to the corner of the room in which they are able to do the skip.
  • Demonstration: [Lecture Hall Skip Example video by ThisHEX]
  • Nightmare Frontier:
  • The Nightmare Frontier Skip is a skip in Bloodborne that allows the player to skip a large portion of the Nightmare Frontier in order to reach Amygdala faster. The skip is located at the shortcut elevator close to the Nightmare Frontier lamp. There are two ways of doing it. In the first method you hit a specific rock during the drop, which will reset your fall damage, resulting in not dying from the drop. However, this method is precise and isn’t used in speedrun attempts. In the second method you slide of the ledge, which will result in you hitting a rock a little bit below the ledge, and then quit out. When done correctly, you will spawn on the rock below the ledge and you will survive the drop.

  • Nightmare of Mensis - Micolash Alive Skip:
  • You can skip Micolash keeping him alive and proceed beyond him. For this you'll need cooperator to activate the middle elevator for you.

  • Fishing Hamlet:
  • The Fishing Hamlet Skip is a skip in Bloodborne that allows you to skip a large portion of the Fishing Hamlet in order to reach the Orphan of Kos boss-fight faster. The skip is located a little bit after the second lantern in the Fishing Hamlet (Lighthouse Hut). The player walks near the wooden village area and falls down to a lower area underneath. From there you're able to use the collision of the nearby rocks to jump out of bounds and jump into the area right before the Orphan fight. It is possible to softlock in this area if you do the skip incorrectly (this means you are forced to use the Hunter's Mark or Bold Hunter's Mark to free yourself).

Chalice Dungeons Layer Skip

  • Bridges Layer Skip:
  • You need to find a suitable layout. The bridges in the canyon need to be aligned almost perfectly below each other so you can land safely on the bridge below. You're most likely to find such layout in Loran where the canyon with bridges is the most common. Find an enemy to visceral. Easiest is the Loran Silverbeast as it has incredibly lenient parry window. You can parry most of its attacks from their first frame to the last. Position yourself on the edge of the bridge and parry the enemy. Step over the edge and perform the visceral attack at the last moment before you fall. Timing is crucial. The invincibility frames ensure you won't die from the fall. Once you land, reload the game. When you log in again you'll remain on the bridge you've fell on from above.
