NPC Loot Dupe [source; updated source]

Introduction

  • By exploiting how the game spawns NPCs and their loot you can obtain multiple instances of the same items that would normally be obtainable once. For example you can obtain as many versions of Willem's Eye rune that you want (3 would suffice). Also you can respawn Wandering Nightmares, (or Scurrying Beasts if you prefer) so that you can farm them for upgrade materials. It is simple enough to get this exploit but with several important details.
  • To begin DonsKeytar made a video to showcase this exploit - Youtube link

  • To do the exploit you need to kill an NPC and do not pick up the loot item they drop. From here you need to travel far enough from that part of the map in order for the game to no longer have the loot's map loaded in memory. When you return to the point in which the game has loaded the map which has the NPC loot -without any loading screens, an extra instance of the loot will have spawned -you will have duplicated it! If the NPC respawns, such as a Wandering Nightmare, you will have to kill it again but it will drop an extra stack of it's usual amount of upgrade materials.

Things to consider when doing the exploit

  • If you prompt a loading screen before picking up all your duped items the game will reset the loot count back to 1. Also grabbing 1 item and trying to do the dupe for more items will not work as the game registers the item as looted, therefore no more will be spawned.
  • You cannot re-acquire runes that have already been looted at any point by your character, even if you sell the rune and move into the next NG+ playthrough.
  • You know it is working if any enemies in the same area as the loot NPCs are respawned upon returning -this is a good way to test it first if you are worried about it not working for whatever reason.
  • If you have the Underground Cell Inner Chamber Key (for Brador's Cell) -regardless of if Simon is dead, you cannot dupe Ludwig's Holy Moonlight Blade anymore. Also it is possible for Simon to have the Holy Moonlight Sword and then die and you cannot obtain the sword again in that playthrough. If in doubt; kill Ludwig's head straight after his boss fight, and dupe the sword before progressing through to the 2nd Fishing Hamlet lamp.
  • If you wanted to dupe Brador's attire you have to kill Brador the NPC -not his phantoms! If you kill Brador in his cell before the phantoms die, the attire pieces are dropped around the map where the phantoms would have spawned and are now dupe-able.
  • Make a backup save if you are worried about messing it up!
  • It isn't possible to dupe in Cainhurst, Lecture Building, Nightmare Frontier and Nightmare of Mensis as they are all single maps with no neighbouring borders. However I've made a map to show the rest of the game world and where to dupe:

Useful Information

Best Rune Multiples

  • NPC [NPC's rune]; new best tier combination
  • Afflicted Beggar [Beast +2]; 2,2,3
  • Iosefka before blood moon [Oedon Writhe +2]; 2,2,3
  • Gilbert [Clawmark +2]; 2,2,3
  • Willem [Eye +2]; 2,2,3
  • Crow of Cainhurst [Blood Rapture +3]; 3,3,3
  • Research Hall Crow [Guidance +1]; 1,1,2
  • note that most tier 3 runes are in depth 5 root chalice dungeons so 3x tier 2 runes is worth it up until then. Also worth mentioning; Henryk's Heir +1 rune is as powerful as the tier 3 Moon rune and can be obtained early in the game in comparison.

Blood Stone Chunk Farming

  • To begin Kekimus Prime made a video to showcase this farming method - Youtube link

  • You'll need the DLC and have Ludwig the Accursed defeated. Start in Research Hall (main lamp), kill the 2 Wandering Nightmares in the first room, the both drop 2 Blood Stone Chunks, but DO NOT loot them.
  • Run back to the second lamp in Hunters Nightmare (Nightmare Church) without any loading screens. This will cause Research Hall not to be loaded anymore, respawning the Wandering Nightmares. Head down the stairs and kill the Wandering Nightmare.
  • Head back to the Research Hall. Where the first set of stairs are after the elevator is where Hunters Nightmare unloads, respawning the Wandering Nightmare. Kill the 2 Wandering Nightmares in the first room then restart the process, make the most of it, you can only do it once per new game! When you are done, loot the scurrying beasts in Research Hall and Hunter's Nightmare. The scurrying beasts will not respawn once they've been looted.
  • Additionally you can dupe Wandering Nightmare's loot on the balcony above Recovery Room, and Holy Moonlight Sword for Blood Echoes.
  • UPDATE: Blood Stone Chunks Main Game Farm, same as the DLC Blood Stone Chunk dupe glitch, but just within the main game.
