Mergo's Chief Attendant ❘ メルゴーの従者長	Strong Enemy

Simple but tough, chief attendants fight using slow combos and single blows with their giant axes and chain flails. All of their attacks inflict rapid poison build-up, but most are heavily telegraphed and very easy to interrupt; their slower axe attacks, such as the Guillotine Slam, also leave plenty of time to stagger them from behind with a charged R2 swing. They have a lot of health, and high physical defense. Combining blunt or thrust attacks with bolt damage is a good idea, making Tonitrus an ideal choice.

Chief attendants cannot strike behind them, making this the safest place to stand given their slow movement and attacks. Beware that they always appear in the vicinity of smaller attendants equipped with various weapons, and watch your surroundings carefully to avoid being ambushed; if you've already cleared a safe spot to which you can fall back, try to lure them there rather than fighting them out in the open.

Visceral attacks are the most effective means of defeating chief attendants, especially when they use their slow axe attacks. Stand just outside the range of their chain whips and wait for them to swing, then interrupt them; alternately, quickstep behind them when they use a slow move like the Guillotine Slam and use R1 combos or stagger them with charged R2 strikes. The attacks that inflict rapid poison build-up are slow and can be avoided by quickstepping forward or to the side. When fighting the Chief Attendants in the prison area beneath the lift bridge, be careful not to quickstep into one of the pits in the area, and beware of the smaller attendants armed with crossbows, as their bolts will also build up your rapid poison meter.

All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
