Mergo's Attendant (Unarmed) ❘ メルゴーの従者

Regular Enemy

Description

  • Short enemies clad in chainmail found in the Library and Panopticon areas within the Mergo's Loft section in the Nightmare of Mensis. The unarmed versions are not aggressive for the most part, and will usually just wander around the area while completely ignoring you, although one will occasionally take a swing at you if you stay close to it for too long. They will become hostile if you go out of your way to hit them first, but lacking weapons of any kind; they use only basic shoulder charges and punches that are easily dealt with.
  • Attendants armed with crossbows like to hide behind pillars, mirrors and other obstacles in the prison area, just below where their unarmed comrades appear. Their crossbow bolts inflict rapid poison build-up, making them very dangerous at long range; they are also positioned so that you cannot easily attack one without stepping into the others' line of sight. Encountered only during the battle with Micolash, you will find flail-wielding attendants on the spiral staircase connecting the lower and upper sections of the boss area. They use only very simple short-range melee attacks with their flails and aren't much of a threat by themselves, but you'll still need to be careful if you encounter a group of them at once.

Strategy

  • Due to their lack of aggression, you can attack them from any direction with little fear of reprisal; still, it's safest to stay behind them so they can't hit you right away when your attacks turn them hostile. Elemental weapons and Molotovs are effective, as are interrupts and staggers, but like other weak enemies, it's more efficient simply to use R1 attack chains or charged R2s. In the uncommon event that they attack you without provocation, simply quickstep forward through their attacks and finish them with an R1 combo from behind.

Notes

  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]
  • Special Drop Bug: One of Mergo's Attendants (Unarmed) before the first Mergo's Chief Attendant near second staircase will drop item every ~60 seconds after death. If you don't pick up item in ~15 seconds it will disappear for another 60 seconds. Drop Rate: 21% Antidote x1, 7% Beast Blood Pellet x1, 35% Coldblood Dew (1) x1, 25% Coldblood Dew (2) x1, 11% Coldblood Dew (3) x1 and 1% Blood Dreg x1. When looting this corpse text prompt is "Inspect" instead of "Search Corpse". [test report]; UPDATE: Confirmed by japanese community with their own more extensive research [source; image 01; image 02]

Toilet Man Datamined Update: This special Mergo's Attendant is internally called Toilet Man 便所男 and has this drop table: Antidote - 30%; Beast Blood Pellet - 9%; Coldblood Dew (1) - 30%; Coldblood Dew (2) - 20%; Coldblood Dew (3) - 10%; Blood Dreg - 1%. It is alluded that he is pooping these items onto the ground, that's why he only does it when he notices the player, the idea is that he's supposed to run around pooping out these items in fright. However the event is wrongly written. Probably that's also why there's a static Beast Blood Pellet without a corpse nearby, the implication is that he's already done it once.

Mergos Attendant (Unarmed)
Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.
