Fishman (Melee Harpoon) ❘ 漁村の住人

Regular Enemy

Description

  • Fishmen are the most common enemy type encountered in the Fishing Hamlet. While they use a variety of different makeshift weapons, most behave in more or less the same way - their movements and attacks are slow, but they are protected by super armor during their evasive steps and sometimes make deliberate efforts to attack in groups. Each subtype is equipped to support the others in battle and in certain cases they will work together to spring elaborate ambushes; these typically consist of a firebomb-throwing Fishman who will detonate a cluster of explosive-packed fishing buoys as you approach, followed immediately thereafter with a charge by a group of Fishmen, Fish Dogs and Giant Fishmen with melee weapons. While they can be quite dangerous in groups, these enemies are individually quite weak and pose relatively little threat as long as you take care to pick them off one by one. When entering a new area, survey the space ahead of you carefully to determine potential hiding places and traps; if you spot even a single Fishman closing in on you, retreat to a section you've already cleared and lure the target toward you by itself rather than advancing into the open where you'll likely be set upon by several more.

Overview

  • One of several basic enemy types encountered in the Fishing Hamlet. This variant wields a harpoon and will initially close in with a running thrust attack, then switch to slow jabs and slashes. They will also frequently perform a long windup followed by a short-range attack in which they drive their harpoons into the ground in front of them, leaving themselves vulnerable. Although protected by super armor during their evasive steps, these enemies are vulnerable to stunlocks from faster weapons such as the Kirkhammer's longsword or the Tonitrus during their idle stance and attack animations. They move and strike very slowly, providing many opportunities for interrupts.

Strategy

  • Quickstep forward past them when they strike and hit them with an (R1) combo while they recover. Alternately, stay just outside their reach and wait for them to take a swing, then interrupt them and follow up with a visceral attack. Their downward stab provides a particularly good opportunity for interrupts and is so slow that it even leaves enough time to quickstep behind them and stagger them with a charged attack. (R1) combos are most effective due to this foe's susceptibility to stunlocks, and arcane weapons such as the Holy Moonlight Sword will deal particularly heavy damage to them.

Notes

  • This Enemy is part of The Old Hunters DLC.
  • All enemies and bosses (except hunter enemies) have 999 frenzy resistance, despite that they are still vulnerable to such status. The only way to see it without modding is to use Shaman Bone Blade on enemy inflicting frenzy to attack others. [test video]

The Old Hunters DLC
Pungent Blood Cocktails don't attract this enemy, making the item ineffective.
Shaman Bone Blades affect this enemy, making it hostile to other enemies.
