Basic Information

  • In the code there are several boss rush dungeons which consist of two boss rooms divided by corridor with illusory wall which would most likely disappear after first boss dies. After killing second boss ending lamp appears. In current state you cannot use nor play them without save editor as you spawn incapable of fighting any bosses due to your spawn locations. There are three variants, using different types of boss rooms. Also there are multiple dungeons of each layout, with different sets of bosses. Some examples include: Blood-starved Beast and Watchdog; Abhorrent Beast and Loran Darkbeast; Amygdala and Ebrietas; Wet Nurse and Great One Beast; Pthumerian Descendant and Blood-letting Beast. It is unclear if they were meant as separate dungeons or as part of the dungeons which would have a "Boss Rush" at the end of the layer.

Notes

  • Game version differences UPDATE: When Bloodborne 1.04 patch was released, the developers accidentally included all the unfinished Boss Rush mode maps. Patch 1.05 deletes these, but they were also accidentally left behind on the Game of the Year Edition/Old Hunters Edition (1.06) discs too. This is why some of the chalice dungeons ZullieTheWitch granted us access to behave differently on the GOTY/Old Hunters version. If you manually patch to 1.09 (latest), you don't get those files, but if you install from the GOTY disc, you do get them. PS4 updates can not delete files, so if you installed 1.04 and then slowly updated all the way to 1.09, your game will behave the way the GOTY disc does. But if you never got that update, and never got the GOTY disc, you can't see the functional boss rush maps.

Exploration

  • This unfinished Boss Rush dungeon can be accessed thanks to Zullie the Witch (sikgc3sm). While it has a functional lantern, the lantern is actually a Warp Chair, with the top of the chair still visible through the ground and the associated phantom visible outside of the corridor. This shows that the dungeon is from a pre-release version of the game which still used Warp Chairs. This dungeon is unfinished, but complete "Boss Rush" dungeons do exist and can be accessed through hacking.
  • These dungeons are internally referred to as "Boss Rush" ("bosu ra-shu" in katakana). Boss Rush dungeons were explicitly mentioned in the Bloodborne Collector's Edition Guide, but were never accessible.
  • Each Boss Rush dungeon features two bosses fought in separate arenas, one after the other. While they function, the arenas are still obviously unfinished, with doors and windows leading to a blank void. It is possible that they were going to linked together into longer chains with more than two bosses. About twenty of these dungeons have been found so far.
  • Despite only being accessible through hacking, these dungeons were added to Bloodborne in a post-release patch, and were updated to feature lanterns rather than Warp Chairs. This suggests that they may have been planned as DLC before being abandoned entirely. Along with the unused Moon Presence, there are two new bosses, the Pthumerian Bride and Great One Beast, which can be fought here.
  • The Pthumerian Bride boss is largely identical to Queen Yharnam, including being accompanied by the crying of Mergo. Unlike Yharnam, she begins the fight by appearing in a cloud of mist rather than kneeling at an altar. She is unfinished and will sometimes randomly die before the fight begins, or during the move where she creates clones of herself.
  • The Great One Beast boss is entirely unused in the final game. The shape of its head resembles the Dragon God from Demon's Souls, with multiple eyes and rows of teeth. It also has three large clawed toes instead of the four that Bloodborne's beasts usually have. It attacks by leaping and clawing at the player.
  • The Pthumerian Elder and Pthumerian Descendant can both be encountered, but the HP bar always reads "Pthumerian Descedant" even if it is the Elder being fought.
  • Amygdala can be encountered without functional AI. This causes it to default to a "resting" pose not otherwise seen in the game. In this pose, it appears to be looking at something in its hand.
  • Other bosses include the Loran Darkbeast, Mergo's Wet Nurse, Watchdog of the Old Lords, Headless Bloodletting Beast and Ebrietas.
